Weenmeoff's Inside Soil Alien Abduction Grow Journal

Day 59, took more samples. Poked little holes in foil, wrapped them up, numbered them and put on the cable box. Smoke report to come, there are much more ambers than the 1st test. They smell delicious! Also topped Bernice and Hillary. Clones look sad but I still think they're gonna make it.

You likely still have a couple of weeks to go.

About 70% of those white pistils should turn reddish/brown, and the buds will start swelling so those hairs will become "incorporated" into the bud, instead of sticking out like a dandelion.

BTW...I know those are lower buds...the upper buds may be more developed

Ok, thanks Krip! I suspect I will know when it's time to chop but will keep the updates coming.

I've posted this for a couple of people asking questions on when to harvest. Maybe it will help?

Looking great Ween, damn that tent!! Reps for making me stare, LoL. Those scrogs filled out lovely!

Thanks Pat!

I'm starting to plan building a shed or extension to my garage for a dedicated grow room. I have a 12X20 detached shed which acts as our main living space, no plumbing, have to go in the house for bathroom and kitchen. One idea is to extend this structure by 12' which would make it 12X32. The would allow me to use the heating and cooling systems I currently have and electrical would be easy to wire up. It would be fully insulated and have a veg room and a flower room. I could also do something similar off the garage or the other idea is a detached shed, I've always been interested in earth shelters and am wondering if I could do something like this for my grow room...? How about burying a shipping container or a hybrid shed with a below grade foundation to take advantage of the earths insulation.

Anyone have experience with earth shelters?

I need to build before winter as my garage is not insulated and not heated, it's also not ideal for summer grow because of the high humidity.

The girls are going to need water tomorrow or Friday. Last water was a feed, the nutes schedule suggests feed, water, water but it was suggested they get nutes each time. Should I feed full strength nutes, straight water or water plus calmag?

Any suggestions for the grow shed?

:theband:

@millertm would be the one to talk to about this. He feeds everytime but 75% of the trio and 100% of the Busch doctor line and the soluables. Don't quote me on it so we can hope he shows up. We just alternate feed and watering. :thumb:

Thanks Nis!

So I was away from Monday until last night and the George's were droopy and needing water which I gave them and they perked up. There is a significant part of one plant that is yellow, see pic. All 3 look in overall good health with good green color except a few yellow spots. It is very possible this area was blocked so no light and all other yellow areas are definitely blocked. Should I worry?

I fed them full strength nutes about 8 days ago and watered them last night with calmag.

The clones leaves are yellowing, I expect they will be ready for chop in a week.

With the yellowing it could be lack of light you are correct since it is in one generalized location. On our bigger ones on the outer edges of the lights, we like to give them a quarter turn every other day or so. So you could start doing that or get some CFLS for some side lighting down low. The choice is yours. Looking good nonetheless. :passitleft: :thumb:

Thanks again Nis!

I hate being away from them. I do usually give em turns and leave space between them but I must have put this one to close.

The new plants are looking pretty good with the splits from topping coming along nice. They looked really good last night all reaching up at the light but we're pretty dry so I gave them water and they look a little droopy today.

2 of 3 clones didn't make it and the one I had the least faith in did make it. I'll be taking 2 more from 1 and 3 aka Georgia and Georgina.

Clone from Georgeanne.

Received my doc bud high Brix Kit, thanks Doc!

Also received my boogie blue plus Inline water filter, only reduced the ppm # from 340 to about 210 but think I need to flush the hose and filter more. Will report the new number when complete. I used some dehumidifier water to give to the budding clones which was at 69.

:hmmmm: It's possible that, with the well water, it won't get you as low as I had originally projected/hoped (although, still a pretty big improvement!)...I believe it's a chemical filter, but won't filter out all dissolved solids (which is why it won't ever get you to zero). Perhaps you have a higher ratio of those dissolved solids in the well water than would be in "city water"?

I guess it would make sense for the city to try to filter some of those out before adding the chemicals they always put in! :)

I'm interested in hearing the results!

Also, try letting the water run for 3-5 seconds through the filter before you start filling up the (whatever you're filling up!) so you're not getting a reading on the water first coming out of the filter.

Ran some more tests. I let the hose run for at least 5 minutes and it was even higher, back up to 320.

Tested Poland spring, 54
Tested mountain spring water that has been sitting in a 6 gallon container for 3-4 weeks,. 32! Maybe I should get a couple more containers!?!?

I do have sulfur water which may be my problem!?!?

A little obsessed with the TDS meter today. I went to the park where people get drinking water, mineral water, and it read 167. I have a stream running through my yard that read 102. Id be a little concerned about using the stream, what do you all think?

The best so far is the mountain spring at 32. I go there pretty much weekly except in winter. I may go with that as my water source....? I can use the mineral spring when I don't get to the mountains.

Thoughts?

The mountain spring sounds pretty good to me. If it is not too big of a stream maybe try and see where it originates from? How difficult would it be to transport the needed water for all your plants on a weekly basis is also something to look at. If you had the mountain spring and you are worried about parasites and such you could always boil the water to rid the majority of it?

Thanks Pat! The spring comes out of the side of a mountain, it's really clean, many use it as is for drinking water. I'll need to get a few more 6 gallon jugs and then I would have plenty, maybe get a 55 gallon drum for storage, maybe collect some rain....?

The new gals on the block are no longer droopy and the George's don't have many places left to go in the SCROG.

I wanted to mention some rain since my parents have some big ass tanks on the outside of their house to collect water. Pretty neat since one day of rain could fill it in 1/4 sections at a time. I could imagine a tank on the back of your pick up and then you drive out all the way there with a water pump and you just pumping water till the tank is full...sometimes my imagination gets the best of me :laughtwo:

If you store in a large container get an air pump and some airstones to keep it from going stagnant

Will do if I go that route. What if I keep it in 6 gallon jugs, approximately how long before it becomes stagnant and shouldn't be used?

So I need your help once again 420 people. One of my budding clones (#3 on day 67) is ready to harvest, I think. I only noticed today that there are no more white hairs, they're all red, oops. See the pics below and let me know if you agree. This will be my first so need some guidance, I think I need to give it 48 hours of darkness, the lights just came on at 10am EST and they go off at 9pm, when shoUld I start the dark period? I flushed them last week and gave water yesterday or the day before but I also only gave them nutes only one time during flower, so is it OK to harvest? Does the dark space need to be ventilated? thanks for all of your help!
