Weenmeoff's Inside Soil Alien Abduction Grow Journal

FYI...here's an example of one of those inline filters...it was listed for $14.99 with free shipping:

This one is about $60:

Thanks again Krip! I was looking at RO system and prices range from $90-$3000 but this one caught my attention for wasy hook up to garden hose, Black Series Expandable Home Drinking Reverse Osmosis System. Bathroom shower arm connection. 5/75/1/125 GPD Membrane

I'm sure that will work fine, however, here's what you need to consider:

The $60 unit shown in my last post only FILTERS the water. It is NOT RO so your water won't read zero, even after filtering (but, I would GUESS would get you to 60-80 PPM, or so!). The system you're considering is true RO, so you WILL get down to zero (or very close) on the TDS meter.

But, the $60 filter unit will filter 50,000 gallons. The filter on the $90 RO sytem will filter 1,500 gallons. So, you will have to replace the filter about 33 times on the RO system for each time you'd have to replace it on the filter. What's the cost of replacement filters for the RO system? I'm guessing about $60.

So, let's ignore the price difference between the $60 and $90 initial cost, and let's assume the cost of filter replacement is the same (a whole new unit on the filter system, or just a $60 filter on the RO system)...

The $90 RO system will cost you $0.04/gallon
The $60 Filter system will cost you $0.0012/gallon

(or about 33 times less money!)

Either system would be an improvement for you plants over the well water. It all depends on how "deep" you want to dive in! ;)

You make some very good points so now I'm looking at the boogie blue plus. Seems like it will do what I need it to.

Rock on!

:theband:

No worries, and just to be clear, I'm not trying to convince you one way or another. I just want to help give you the info to make the best decision for YOU and didn't want you to not consider the "true" costs of RO vs. Filtered. You can NOT do better than RO for growing, but it does come at a premium! :Namaste:

OK I will think on it. Im not on a budget, nor am I doing everything top of the line but I do want to get the best buds possible and have been giving the doc buds brix kit some thought which I believe RO is suggested.

It's been cooler and less humid and the flower cage humidity is down to about 42%. Is that acceptable?

The new clones are 9 days old and were looking a little sad so decided to put them in the tent with no humidity domes, do you think that was an OK move?

Some pics.

Keep a close eye on the clones ween. If they start to stress you'll want those domes back on.

ShiggityFlip suggests a small amount of nutes in the waterings all the way to the harvest. I can't recall his whole point but I do remember being impressed with his reasoning. You might want to swing by his journal and ask him about it. His experience speaks volumes, so I believe it's advice worth listening to, at least for the different and unexpected perspective.

Will do! I was spraying the clones and domes 2 times per day and soil seems to moist, smells a little so wanted to dry them out and see if stronger light would help. I will put. The domes back on if needed.

Thanks!

Back when I used to grow chem I would flush with low ppm nutes. Half of what I normally use two weeks away, 1/4 for the last week with plain water for the last watering. All waterings done to at least 15% runoff for flush. The low ppm nutes actually help remove some of the locked up ions in the soil and also feed the plant a little bit.

The last two weeks are the bulk up phase. Many plants will skirt some kind of deficiency at that point. If you starve be with just water than she can't be at her best, she will produce less and may go further in deficiency. But you decrease the amount you feed to eventually feed just water at last watering. Some plants will need some tweaking with the timetable.

At the end of its life we want a happy plant that can afford to spend energy on trichomes and terpenes. By feeding a little you enable the plant to avoid deficiency and spend more energy building buds, which then lowers the amount of built up nutrients. By the end of its life the decreasing feeding will make the plant use its reserves. But just starving a plant...never made sense to me. And my buds with this method are very smooth after cure.

Thanks Shiggity! I'm not sure I understand at least 15% runoff for flush, does that mean of say a gallon fed, at least 15% should come out the bottom? Is this for the entire grow besides seedlings?

I think that is correct sir, the 15% runoff would be out the bottom. So lets say you pour 1L of water, then a 150ml runoff? :hmmmm:

Thanks Pat!! :passitleft:

Updates:

I fed the George's 4 gallons at full strength. I up potted the seedlings (2 were at 3 weeks and 1 was at 4) into slightly larger coco pots so can just drop them in their next pot, all 3 had good root structure. Brought the clones back inside under cfl with humidity domes.

Lastly, I flushed 6 gallons of water through the budding clones. I'd say I'm reaching the minimum but a lot of water went through and I used barely any nutes on these plants. As I was bringing them to the spot to flush I noticed that the tall lanky girl has an awesome smell while with the other 2 you have to rub your hand on the bud to get the smell. I put a piece of wire fencing over a garbage can and put all 3 plants on top and ran water through.

My other girl behind the girls.

I also ordered the boogie blue plus inline filter Krip sold me on and decided to order Doc Buds Brix Kit.

I also delivered some Bio Bomb capsules to a friend who has a brain tumor. Thanks Sweet Sue for helping me through the process of making them! A few pics of that process.

Some do it for the entire grow. Helps flush out things along the way. And yes out the bottom. I collected mine with a turkey baster. Some use a wet dry vac.

But definitely do it during the last few weeks. By doing this with a dilute nutrient solution it will carry some of the locked up nutrients out the bottom.

Thanks Shiggity! I like the wet dry vac and turkey Bastet idea. I had an idea of my own yesterday when I flushed the clones. I used a garbage can with a piece of fence on top so I could put the plants on top. With the bigger plants I think 1 at a time will work.

Thanks MP! :thanks: :circle-of-love:

Mornin' Canna!

Mornin' Canna!

If you have a small pond/fountain/res pump, you can pump the water out, too! :)

Budding clones are on day 59 of supposedly a 64 day cycle (what I found online) but they don't look like they're nearing the end of the cycle.....? It's certainly possible that they're not Alien Abduction.

The seedlings all seem to have taken well to the transplant from 2 days ago with Bernice my Carnival looking the best, reaching for the light!

Donna my Money Maker was topped about a week ago and the new growth is looking good.

Hillary the White Widow X Big Business (I mean Big Bud) is also looking ok even after she took some pretty hard jabs last night.

All 3 seedlings.
