Volksball's First Grow: White Widow Feminized Grow Journal 2018

Hey everyone,

The girls got a good feeding today with a slight bump up in nutes. Been giving them half doses for a time and coming up slowly to the dose on the bottle. Started at a half tsp per gal and now up to nearly a tsp. Still feeding Cal Mag at 10ml per gal. Water corrected to 6.3.

During the feeding and adjustment of the pegs holding the new branches out wide, the two plants on the ends curled up on me a bit and drooped. See pic. I'm not sure if I might have dug the pegs in and hurt the roots, or if the shock of bringing them out of the tent for feeding did it, but I'm hoping they bounce back. Should I keep training the branches out wide using LST to open the center? I assumed so.

I've never seen the curling/drooping happen before.

I should mention that the girls have seemed to figure out their Cal Mag issue for the most part. They're green and vigorous, though I know that the minute I say it....

Day 39.

Thx.

What's your temp and Rh?
23c/61

The RH is higher because of the feeding and the meter being right above the pots. It's more likely 23/53. Or at least that was before the feeding when the plants were lively. They literally dropped and curled as they were being watered...out of the tent.

I wouldn't think so but the only other thing I can think of is cold water being used. That will shock them!
Yeah, that may have been it. I tried to have the water warm enough, but feared it being too warm. It may have been cooler than the soil. I assume that they bounce back from that fairly easily. Its been about an hour without noticable improvement.

750W is quite a bit for vegging 3 or 4 plants. Not saying it can't be done, just might be overkill. Are you going to flower in the same tent? If so, then leave more power for Flower! Cheers!
Yeah, they're at 750w right now. I've read at the stage they're at, I should have had them at 750 sooner and even up to 1000w with them on the floor by next week. They seem to have responded fine to the 750w.

I'll be flowering in the same tent. Maybe then push em up to 1000?

Lots of variables here. The further the light is away, it encourages more stretching. I don't have a 1000W to work with so I can't give you experienced answers. I read/learned awhile back to increase intensity during flower, been doing it since day 1. The plant does not need more light, is merely an option during veg. This picture is from my first grow, each plant was 60 days Veg under 135W Mars Hydro 300.

Can't say that you didnt do something right there! Thx for sharing!

Happy Sunday, growers.

Day 42. Six weeks from seed.

The girls look quite healthy. All seem to have bounced back nicely from their CalMag issue, though far right seems to give me a bleached leaf or two, here and there just to remind me who's boss. A few red stems on each plant tell me I still may be too acidic in the soil. I water with 6.3 corrected water.

Because the girls are starting to touch each other, I'm thinking about it being time to pot up to their 7gal forever homes.

Another option would be to take them off of the shelf, put them on the floor and spread them out further to give them more breathing room under a lowered light. Would that increase size? I've read that once the leaves start touching each other, the plants will limit their growth.

As a note, I've been training branches outward, though I'm running out of room, as the tops, quite big, keep turning upward and blocking the interior.

Any ideas on when to pot up? Just put on the floor? Or the red stems?

Thanks.

You have probably heard that I refuse to uppot until the plants demand it by reducing my buffer between waterings to an unacceptable (24 hours) level. Others follow other rules, so I hesitate to say there is any one right answer here.
I like the setting them on the floor idea for more room. I prefer a table though, and I will be installing a 1x platform to sit up off of the floor and give me storage space beneath, at least as long as I have the vertical space to do it. Many times under HID the vertical height of the plants made this decision for me and I am hoping that in LED I have a little more control.
I know a lot of people talk about red and purple stems and I have seen each at various stages of my grows... and I don't think it amounts to anything needing any concern. I look at the leaves... a stressed out branch that has been LSTed and showing some color as a result, just seems natural to me, and I have never given it much cause for concern.
As far as plants reacting when they touch another plant or the side of a tent or whatever... yeah, that is a thing. They don't like it.

I took your always reliable advice, Emilya, and brought them down to the floor on shelf tops to keep a buffer between the cold floor and the pots. The light is the same distance and the fans oscillate over them nicely. That should give them some more room to move and grow. I suspect that it won't be long before they start touching again, but this should buy some time before the pot up and light crank up to 1000w, where I will be able to raise the light and have more coverage, allowing me to separate the plants further.

I do remember you mentioning not to pot up until a 24 hour wer/dry cycle. We are getting close to that. About 72 hours now. I suspect in a week or so, they'll want new homes. It may have to be an earlier pot up, however to simply allow me to LST them further out so to keep the interior fed with light. We'll see where the next few days take us.

Have a look at the new arrangement.

Thanks again!

Nice clean setup. I like your light hood is that a raptor.
Thx. No. It's a FusionBright.

growlights.ca

Good Canadian company. They've got good prices on what are turning out to be pretty darn good products.

I like the wide profile. I was thinking of switching out to a wider profile myself for the broader coverage but i might jump on the led bandwagon for flowering. I hate fighting the temps of the HID lights. I'm still in the fence I've had good results with HID lights.

Right. I anticipate to wrestle with the temps for as long as I'm up at 1000w. At 750 now and things seem good. It's always manageable with the right equipment, I suppose.

I considered the LED route and as you've seen, it can yeild great results. I see the advantages to both along with the disadvantages. I think I soured on the idea when I bought an LED light and came to find that the numbers listed on the light were not actually what I was getting, so it went back. The failures of a noob, I guess. The seed is planted and may one day make the switch over.
