Volksball's First Grow: White Widow Feminized Grow Journal 2018

Hi guys,

I've read conflicting reports regarding this:

Can you open the tent during lights out in veg? I know that it's a big problem during flower, but is it no big deal during veg? I often go in there at all times to tweak this, or change that. Have I hurt them or cause them to herm?

Thx.

Plants in veg don't hermi unless they are genetically prone to do so once they finally reach maturity, but they are still vegging and are trying to adapt to anything their environment does to them. If they were this sensitive in veg to react to a little disruption of the light pattern, imagine what topping might do to them. They will be fine.

Great point.

Ok, I'll limit it, but there are times where its unavoidable for me.

I am curious what your light cycle is for veg...lol! Mine is lights on at 6am till midnight. I am asleep longer than the plants are, and the lights are always on when I am awake...LOL!
Mine are on from 7pm to 1pm. 16hrs. The cost of energy drops alot between 7pm and am. I figure I'll find savings were I can get it. Helps me justify the hobby to myself. Ha.

Understood. I live in Cali PGE robs us blind! I agree with Emilya, no big deal once in a while. If your current cycle does not give you enough time, I would say alter it by an hour, or even half hour. Whatever it takes to get the plants into a rhythm. If you're suggesting that once or twice a week you wake them up an hour early, no harm, no foul.

The hope is that like Emilya said, they adapt. I was pretty liberal with my entrances whenever, because I read that they can handle it in veg. No big. Then I started to read more to the contrary. Nothing new there. Surely, I can work around the hours I have.

Hey guys,

The girls seem to be progressing nicely, and loved a good soaking after a good drying.

The top right corner girl seems the most temperamental. She showed the worst of the CalMag issue. You'll see her in the close ups, sensitive to heat and a couple of her leaf tips are yellowing. Maybe nutes? Though I've worked them up to a half tsp, which is what the bottle called for. The others seem to love it. Heat? The others seem to be doing well and the canopy is at 24.5 with the lights on. Maybe still CalMag? I've read that it makes them sensitive to heat...

Tomorrow I plan to pot them up to their 7gal homes. I wonder if I might be fighting acidic peat.

Does it make sense to repot them into a different medium? Organic soil? Or do I just go on with the ProMix as I started?

Day 45.

Thx.

Yes, the leaf tips are your indication that the nutes on that plant are just a bit heavier than she likes... but if that is the only indication, it is very minor, and really just shows that you are pushing them just a bit. There are people out there who would tell you that if you are not just burning the tips, you aren't trying hard enough.
Its not acidic broken down peat yet... not in 45 days. There is no right or wrong answer about the soil. Many would recommend to put into a strong soil to go into flower with, others would say you are fine in more fresh promix. From my perspective, just having more room will provide a great benefit all by itself, no matter the medium you choose. Since you are looking at experimenting, check out what I do with layers and spikes.

Thanks for that. It all makes sense to me. Hopefully the tips stay where they are and I just pushed her a bit. I might make a trip to the hydro store and grab some of the good stuff to go into flower eventually. I will have a look at what you've referenced. Always looking for more ideas. Starting to look into a scrog... one thing at a time. Ha. Thanks for the tips :)

Hello everyone,

As I mentioned yesterday, I plan to repot the girls up to 7gal pots today.

I already am using ProMix Potting, but would like to fill the new pots with something a bit better for the rest of their lives. I do wish I had the time to build the perfect pot like Emilya had been so kind to share with us, but this will have to do for now.

I've attached pictures of some products from my local grow store. Maybe a few of you can weigh in and suggest which might work best for the remainder of my grow. They wont be moved from these pots.

Note: I'm using FloraNova Grow and Bloom, if that weighs into your thoughts at all.

Thanks!

I am learning now that already cooked super soil is available for purchase out there on the online stores... you might want to consider that for your bottom third too.
Nice! Let me have a look!

Ok thanks @Emilya so a quick and cheaper solution to living organic soil. Discussed between Emilya and I thought these would be a great way for someone to get started such as myself since I’ve not yet grown organically. I’m putting it to the test within the next couple of weeks with with either blueberry auto or whiteberry auto or og kush auto. Haven’t decided yet. But this is what I have found!

A question about FFOF:

Being that I'm well into veg, if I choose to use FFOF to fill my 7gals (of course 2gals will be transplanted ProMix), would I continue using nutes? Or the same amount of them? I read that FFOF is nutrient rich.

FFOF is rich, but mainly it has what is needed in veg... the flowering requirements will quickly exceed the capabilities of the soil to provide what you need... it has a lot, but not that much.
