Volksball's First Grow: White Widow Feminized Grow Journal 2018

Ok thanks @Emilya so a quick and cheaper solution to living organic soil. Discussed between Emilya and I thought these would be a great way for someone to get started such as myself since I’ve not yet grown organically. I’m putting it to the test within the next couple of weeks with with either blueberry auto or whiteberry auto or og kush auto. Haven’t decided yet. But this is what I have found!

Thanks for offering that! I'd love to know how it works out!

FFOF is rich, but mainly it has what is needed in veg... the flowering requirements will quickly exceed the capabilities of the soil to provide what you need... it has a lot, but not that much.
Oh ok. So then would you back off completely from adding nutes in veg when using it?

The last lines in my signature speak to my views on nutes in veg... but especially in FFOF it seems to be the general belief that nutes are not needed for at least the first 3 weeks of the grow.
And it all makes sense now.... thanks again!

The girls have moved and are feeling out their new digs. Grabbed some ProMix HP to fill out the 7gal pots. Brought it up to about 35% perlite.

Lights at 100% and raised up to 31". Temp is currently at 26.5 and 55 RH. Both are still steadying.

Thanks for helping with the move. Everyone hates moving.

Day 46.

Hey guys,

I've often wondered if my basement windows being uncovered is letting in too much light to the tent. The tent is mostly sealed, but the exhaust ducting from the hood reflector that faces out undoubtedly lets in some light as well as the intake opening on the bottom of the tent.

Does that affect the night cycle of the plants/affect their health or growth? I suppose I can black out the windows, if necessary. I think that'll be imperative during flower, however.

Thanks.

go in the tent and close it up... see what you think. Anything as bright as the moon in there?
So this is the view from inside the tent. A small red light coming off of the space heater and another green light coming from the knob of the humidifier. Neither seem to bright, well, maybe the green light is brighter than I expected, but not likely brighter than the moon.

In terms of the light from the windows, none seems to be coming, or if it is, I barely noticed it.

Will this be ok for veg? And maybe bloom? Or should I be taping over those little lights and blacking out my windows?

Good morning, growers.

The plants seem to be enjoying their new homes and are thriving. In fact, they seemed to burst since the move only two days ago. I've had to move the light up a few inches to avoid them burning themselves. Numbers are holding fairly steady between 26-28 degrees depending on when my furnace kicks in and an RH between 58 and 62%.

I'm trying to figure out when they may need water, as the new bags feel heavy to me no matter what. It may be time to invest in a few moisture meters, or else risk improper watering.

Also, you'll notice there are a couple tall branches in the girls. When to top them? Should I wait until the stress of the pot up passes? And I'm finding that the pegs used for LST are losing their effacacy- the branches are just too strong now? I've seem people use pipe cleaners to pull them laterally. Any other suggestions?

Thanks..

Day 48.

you might want to use a thin dowel rod to try to determine where the wet/dry line is in those containers... that is what people did before all the fancy meters. Topping the dominant branches simply causes the lower branches to grow up toward the canopy more. It should be done as early as you can get the cut that you want. There is no need to wait on stress that you think you might be seeing from the up-pot, but you already said you saw a surge in growth since then, and that my friend is not stress... it is the opposite.
My wire hoops still work, even late in veg with the branches getting stronger. Sometimes I have to use up to 3 hoops per branch, and if I need a bit more bite to hold a stubborn branch down, I just flare out the ends of that hoop that will be stuck in the soil. That little bit of a bend at the end provides a strong bite in the soil to be able top pull down and keep down the trained branches.

Ah ok. Thanks. I'll grab a rod to find out where the water line is. I don't think I'm too far from dry.

I'll keep using the pegs, and how you've suggested. I'd like light to get to the interior. I've never topped dominant branches. I've read of FIMming and topping. Where and how should I top the few dominant branches?

Thx again.

I just lop off the growth tip on the dominant ones... usually two per plant. This creates two buds where there once was one, and it slows down that branch so others can rise.
Ok. I think I get it. Watched a couple videos and i think I'm almost ready to give it a try. Eek. Maybe tomorrow. Ha.

Do you only do 2 per plant to avoid over stressing the plant? Or a canopy that's too heavy? Or both? I have a few branches per plant that can be topped, but I'd hate to do too much too fast.

No, I don't limit this activity in veg... if I see a growth tip that has risen up to the point that I can cleanly chop it, and it is either dominant or about to become dominant, off with its head. I am not worried about stressing a vegging plant, because I know that in veg the plant just sloughs off all of this abuse and just keeps on going. Stress in veg is over rated and stressed over way too much. It is flower when you need to worry about stress.

Thanks! I went down and had a look and there were about four tops per plant that could use a lopping. I think she may have been a bit overdue. I think I got it right. Here's a few surgery pics. Hopefully they were done right!
