Hey smurf,
didn't see you down there..
Come on in!

I love what the porta scrog is doing for me on this grow.
On the last grow, I just used plain tomato cages with stakes.
Did lots of tying down, and it worked great.
But I vegged my plants for almost twice as long this round.
Making them more than double the size than last go.
Nothing but pros to mention about the porta scrogs so far, and they seem to become more and more useful as the grow progresses.
I don't have to stick a single stake into my medium leaving my roots to go nutso uninterruptedo.
Pretty much did all the hard work when training these girls, so all I have to do is just let them go and ensure colas are spaced out evenly and supported, which they seem to be without much effort.
The only thing I'm going to have to do from here on, is next week (once they have recovered from their day 21 strip), go around and make sure the buds are all spaced evenly, use pipe cleaners to fasten the outer colas to edges of the scrog. That way they'll have full support til the end. Of course there will be other routine maintenance to do along the way, but there always is.
Since my defol was pretty heavy the other day, I probably won't really need to do much of one again on day 45.
Just a few plucks here, a few plucks there, no biggie..
My back will thank me for that!

wiw!

ouch, that wiw hurt..

Thanks D,
They were about 16" high before flip.
But trained down low.

I did get you PM.
I just haven't had time to take pictures for you and write a proper response.
On my way over to see the new pics..

I think this is the biggest lesson for effective 'Scrogging', however much I do, it's not quite enough:high-five:

Re: Vick074-OG Kush last run in CocoSoil-CO2-1KHPS-5X5tent-with Porta Scrogs!? porta

just a thought mate. i go on a 11 week rotation on grows, usually 10. my strain allows harvest in 8 weeks or less and is a high yielding, high resin strain, excellent for commercial growers and conniseurs. The point is, i veg 2 weeks and and in coco average 2.5 oz per plant and in hydro up to 8 oz. So i think to my self is scrog worth the effort? It yield well and is a clean way to grow, theres no doubt. But if u veg 5 weeks say, thats 2 weeks more than me each grow. for every 5 grows u do, i will get 6 and therefore yield the same or more with a faster turn around. just thought id put that point out there mate. what do u think?

Good Yield and clean way to grow agreed.
You make a very good point there C. But remember, you're growing on a commercial scale. Everything's on a timeline, and you can't afford to waste precious time, being time is $ for you. And that's totally cool. But for me and a lot of other growers here, I'm just growing for myself and a few friends, so production time really isn't as important to me. In the past I've grown monster 1Lb plants outdoors, and have had some really big yields
(Out Door).

But I've been slowly working my way up to growing less plants with more yield with my Indoor. And the only way I'm going to get that while keeping my numbers low, is long veg times, and or switching to Hydro.
I can see your point where you're wondering are scrogs really worth it for you?
In your applications? I don't think they are. But I will say that I think your grows could really benefit from some kind of modified Tomato cages. That way you wouldn't have to fart around with staking, and the major maintenance that comes along with scrogs. Seeing as your time is so important, the cages would give you the ease of tying to, support for those HEAVY hitting buds you grow, and for moving shit around the room.
This ease will give you more time to work in other grows more effectively.

I will say that I would give anything to try out some of your AMS, it seems like the perfect strain for B.C.
Indoor and out. And with the powdery mildew hovering around my community like the plague, I think I could do some amazing things with it. :;):

nail on the head there AJ..
As much as you do, once it reaches screen you always feel you could've done better with the training..
ho hum.

next grow!!

Re: Vick074-OG Kush last run in CocoSoil-CO2-1KHPS-5X5tent-with Porta Scrogs!? porta

i only grow 20 plants max per grow space, unless i do hempys. but on average 10 plants when hydro. i yield around 50oz+ per 2 600w hps. I do stake most my grows, im just lazy on my personal ones! lol so my point is11 weeks 50+ oz dry, no scrog. Just so u know u dont need to veg that long with the right strain. Even though its personal smoke for u, its just something for u to think about mate. u are growing well, im certainly not saying u are doing anything wrong, im just saying theres a different way to look at it mate. but each to there own.

Re: Vick074-OG Kush last run in CocoSoil-CO2-1KHPS-5X5tent-with Porta Scrogs!? porta

I know all about how you do yours my friend. I've followed your journals very carefully throughout your grows C, and have memorized long ago what you get off your setups.
I vegged that long mainly because I was waiting for my tent to become available. I wasn't vegging for so long thinking that I would be increasing my yield at all. Just so everyone knows that..
But yeah I totally know where you're coming from though.

Re: Vick074-OG Kush last run in CocoSoil-CO2-1KHPS-5X5tent-with Porta Scrogs!? porta

I feel scrogs are only efficient if you have a veg room to do most of the training, then its just a matter of transplanting and vegging for a week so the girls can grow up into the screen. Its a little tricky getting the timming down but if you stick with the same strain it can be done:)

Re: Vick074-OG Kush last run in CocoSoil-CO2-1KHPS-5X5tent-with Porta Scrogs!? porta

Hey Cultivator,

I just posted my thoughts on SCROG on my own thread. Hopefully Vick doesn't mind if I repost here for you:

This is my take on defoliation... If you are not concerned about time, it WILL increase your yield. If you are more concerned about space, especially vertical space, and/or plant count, defoliation is a technique that could benefit your grows. If you're a commercial grower, and want to maximize yield on an annual scale, this practice may not improve your bottom line. It's not to say it can't help, I still think a more mild amount of defoliation, than I practice, can benefit the commercial grower as well, but they will have to experiment. There are just too many styles of growing, and this technique will not help all of them (SOG for example will have little benefit, if any).

I have pictures of my defoliation in my thread. No screen, just tieing and bending.

This needs some context for me to agree, I think it is also the most efficient method of making the most of a confined space!:hookah:

Efficient based on what criteria though? If you factor in time, on a multi-harvest/annual scale, it might lose that comparison. If you're more concerned with space and/or plant count, then a SCROG is probably a good grow style. SCROGs are also a lot of fun. Never underestimate the value of making it fun!

hey vick thanks for your detailed reply, I love how the scrog looks and it appears very effective. currently I'm trying to just
get through my first grow and planning for round 2. I am much like yourself and just grow for my needed my meds. growing
is a way to save money and it gives me a hobby. glad to hear you enjoy scroggin the only thing that I thought would be a
pain in the a$$ is the constant adjusting but that doesnt seem to be much of an issue for you.

thanks again and keep those plants smurfing green

It'd be much more of a pain in the ass if there was just one stationary screen, and I couldn't move anything around.
The porta scrogs really allow me all the versatility that a single traditional scrog wouldn't allow.
Picture me on my hands and knees trying to defoliate in there with all the plants tangled into one screen.
With my bad back?
Faaaaaaak that!

So yeah, you could say I like them..:)

Re: Vick074-OG Kush last run in CocoSoil-CO2-1KHPS-5X5tent-with Porta Scrogs!? porta

I agree .... individual screens would be so much better. I did a full screen on my last scrog and it worked great. But, you couldn't move plants, can't turn them, or work behind them.
