Vick074-OG Kush Last Run in CocoSoil-CO2-1KHPS-5X5Tent-with Porta Scrogs!? Porta Wha?

Xl, by coco I mean pure coco from inland, Cocogro. I only added about 10 percent grow rocks. Pretty much a larger version of hydroton.

I water with 5.7 though, so it goes through the ranges of 5.7 up to 7 as the lime corrects the ph.

You should try putting a soil ph meter in your coco just to see what it reads.

I can see how the lime probably helps offset a bit of the potassium inherent in coir - which is what I'm doing with cal/mag. I guess I don't understand the part about lime "correcting" the PH, because while 7 is considered neutral it's a bit high for ideal PH when growing cannabis in coir, at least as I understand it. As long as it works well for you though - that's what's important. I'm no coir expert - but love using it.

Just sharing my 2 cents here and what works for me - sorry for dragging the thread off-topic a bit guys. :)

just love your kush pictures...I had one friend come over and took one look at mine and said oh Kush. I was surprised that he knew, but they do have a special look don't they.

I'm with X and C in that I have never had a problem with my Coir's PH. Never had a lockout, and never had a salt buildup. And we all use Cal Mag as an additive to our Coir. Even though you've said what you do a few times now, I'm still trying to understand the point of actually adding lime to Coco? You water with 5.7 and it slowly rises to 7.0. If Coco is pretty much hydro than why would you even want to have your PH rise all the way to 7.0? That just seems to high to me.
I don't measure my Coir's PH, I measure the run off to give me the idea of what PH my medium is at, then flush accordingly if needed.

Cultivator, the fact that you use drip clean in every feed/watering has me very interested in trying this. It just makes so much sense to me. Like a safety net for build ups.. Even though I haven't had any salt buildups so far without it, I think it would be a good preventative measure to take to keep things flowing cleanly. Then it seems you could really push your feeds without having to flush as often..

drip clean works, and not just for salt build up. it boosts the vigour of the plant too. try it and tell me im wrong? u wont be disappointed.

oh and i agree with bass too, only i cant hep but grow sneaky coco plants, its like a secret addiction lol

I want to try out some of House of Garden products but damn there prices are steep. Ill purchase some of there root hormones though. 250ml $55 so it must do the job for that high price for so little.

Yeah .... but dirt and coco are so much different.

Re: Vick074-OG Kush last run in CocoSoil-CO2-1KHPS-5X5tent-with Porta Scrogs!? porta

Vick, the reason I'm trying the lime in the coco right now is because I know then that the highest my ph will go is 7.

Something interesting, though. I also test my runoff, the ph is always only a few points higher than what I pour in, But soil ph meter always says 7, even right after I water with low ph. In fact, the only way I was able to get the coco to read lower than 7, was in a test cup, coco-lime, then soaked it with ph 4. Managed to get the soil meter to read 6 or something.

I highly suggest you give Corey at BPN a call and talk to him about what you want specifically. As an example, I was using VooDoo Juice as a root enhancer for some time. It's fairly expensive and a good product. However, after speaking to Corey I changed. He mentioned looking for a product with numerous forms of glomous. Basically stating it's these forms of glomous that were good for roots and enhanced that ribcage like development we love to see. So I went to the hydro shop and found a product. Fox Farms Bush Doctor Microbe brew. It's tons cheaper than VooDoo juice and at 5ml per gal with every feed through the first week of flowering (just like AN's Voodoo Juice schedule), I've saved tons of $ and gotten all the benefits.

Just a thought.

Thanks C!
I did a little looking around, and from what I found, drip clean seems to be a lot more than just a "cleaner". That being said, Do I have to worry about drip clean raising my PPMs when mixing it with my feeds? Like am I going to need to cut back on anything else when using it to make sure I don't over do it? Also it seems like most people that use it are using it for hydro only. I assume it's all good to use in Coco or you wouldn't have suggested it. duh..
Flora clean and many other flushing aids don't seem to have the extra stuff in them (as drip clean) and are not used with every feed, more like general medium cleaning, and pre harvest flushing.

Ok, thanks for clearing things up.
That's crazy that it stabilizes like that.
you had to pour PH 4 in to get to budge to 6!?
nuts.

Re: Vick074-OG Kush last run in CocoSoil-CO2-1KHPS-5X5tent-with Porta Scrogs!? porta

I started my 21 day defoliation last night.
Was up til 5 in the morning banging these birds off one at a time.
Then rewarded them with a delicious meal.
My back is toast. Gunna be lying on the floor for the next 3 days, but it was worth it.
Couldn't imagine how much of a pain in the ass/back this would have been if I wasn't able to move them in and out of the tent.

Lot's of photos coming up that really show how big these baby's are, and the functionality of the porta scrogs.

Re: Vick074-OG Kush last run in CocoSoil-CO2-1KHPS-5X5tent-with Porta Scrogs!? porta

I got me a plastic table from Costco. I pull mine out one plant at a time and put them up on the table to work on them. That way, I can either stand up straight, or sit up in a chair and work on them. It's much easier on the back. I can't stand bending over even for 5 min.

Re: Vick074-OG Kush last run in CocoSoil-CO2-1KHPS-5X5tent-with Porta Scrogs!? porta

So I got all geared up last night for the 21 day defol. And managed to get them all done by 5:30 this morning..
I was kinda worried that once I started pulling them out of the tent I was going to see some PM on some of the lowers on the plants in the back. But after doing all 5 plants, I didn't see a single spec of powdery mildew anywhere!!!!

wiw!:rocker:

Here's some photos before defoliating:

These porta scrogs really make it easy to move each plant around as a unit. And just before a feeding they're nice and light and easy to lift. Even for me, who's got a really bad back.
But moving them when they're loaded?? Forget about it..

And everyone back in the tent soaking up a heavy week 3 meal.
With roughly 5 weeks left to go still, things are looking very promising at this point.
I'm thinking at least 5-6 ounces per plant should be very attainable now.

I'm really confused with this lime / pH 7 thing. I'm not a coco grower so may be missing something entirely but coco's basically an inert medium right, so like hydro? Surely the lime's just buffering your medium at pH 7, which is why it always reads 7 with the soil probe, and why it's only after soaking with pH 4 solution that it drops to 6? Irrespective of the pH of the run-off with day to day watering the lime will re-stabilise the medium's pH at 7 - won't this give you all manner of nutrient deficiencies due to pH lockout?
