Dual RADDWC design is getting there...

Hey what if you put both res' on the same side next to each other. Would that give you more room in the growing area? Or would it be too hard to maintain the reservoir with the two I've em on the same side? Just thinking out loud...

Yea, I figure build it now, make solution changes easier going forward. A shop vac would be too loud for my new location. Lol

I may also raise the totes 2" and install drains with 1" pvc. I'll attach it to the water pump/faucet, using more ball valves to close when not draining. Because once the rez is drained, there will be lots left in the totes after the water level hits the bottom of the return pipes...

Here's an insane but humorous idea: plumb that one inch into the gutter and put a plant by your gutter drain . lmao drain the waste right into a bonus plant! If only haha

It's fun to use, and definitely helps me know how many PVC fittings I'll need. .

So if you go to a drain system, will you use a manifold to both maintain the water depth during normal usage and drain during res changes?

I think I'll add a drain just for weekly complete system draining. The drains will be closed off with ball valves during normal use.

I could place them on one side, but it may be tough for me to maneuver and train the plants. I'll only have about a foot and a half on each end, still need to add A/C and ducting....

It'll be a tight squeeze, and I'm far from petite. .


Lol, a gutter plant would be an awesome side project. Lol Many a couple of autos. Haha

They'll be the first in the new Veg chamber.

I'm playing with the idea of growing 2 plants per 5 Gal tote. My thinking is faster vegging with 6 topped/scrogged or manifold plants, over 3 bushy plants. This will also allows me to grow various strains at once.

Example:

I also changed the return manifold, less PVC needed.

Can you grade the buckets slightly from highest to lowest starting at the first buckets after the pumps and have a low set bucket cut into a T with a valve between last plant and return to Rez?

You could use wash basins like Just Meds!.

Im wracking my brain try to figure that out but for now im using the vac.

Bulkhead fittings would add to the cost but you could plumb your drains into the sides of the totes at the bottom and use an unglued 90 with a stand pipe for normal drain function. When it's time to flush it out pop the 90 and you'd be down to an inch or two of water by the time it drained. Lil more time consuming than ball valves but a simple solution.

New Space update:

I've received the PVC fittings and misc parts, just need to grab the spray nozzles, and PVC straight pipe. Also need the totes.

What if I eliminate the rez all together, and go back to double stacked totes? I can replace the rez with a narrower water tank with airstone and fresh PH'd+Z7 water? The lower tote can serve as the rez, as I did with the original RADDWC.

I can have the pump suck from the bottom of each lower tote via drain. Then have it sprayed back into the top totes. I'll place a floater valve in the tote closest to water tank and daisy chain all 3 totes with 2" pipe for water leveling above Dewey inlet. This way the system gets topped off between weekly solution changes.

It'll give me a little more space to maneuver.

What do you guys and gals think?

That was my problem with Starkiller i couldnt get to really work with them once they hit the stretch.
