I am also fermenting bana peels at the moment, along with eggshells and sea-weed. Also making another batch of Dandy-lion tea. My cedar hedges pepped up after giving them a drink. What are the benefits of fern? I have some in the back yard.
Should I use my banana and eggshell juice to ammend the soil before winter? If so, should I spray it on and mix it in? I plan on dumping my four fabric pots onto a tarp and adding organics to it.
Cheers, bro!
So far I have tried bananas, eggshells, and all the weeds to make green manure and teas…
I’ve yet to try fern. I base my experiment on pure ignorance and curiosity.
There is much I have found regarding teas made out any especies of ferns.
The minerals in ferns look something like this:
Table4. Mineral composition of N. cordifolia Leaflets
Mineral element Quantity (mg/100g)
Sodium 57.45±0.45
Potassium 1985.0±5.00
Phosphorus 207.80±2.20
Magnesium 142.0±2.00
Calcium 541.50±1.50
Iron 36.30±0.30
Zinc 6.15±0.50
Manganese 2.45±0.11
Copper 0.33±0.03
I’m gonna give it try and do as I do with the horsetail anaerobic teas, instead using a lot of wild fern.
If you have the raw organic matter I would throw and mix in with the soil you will cook over winter. And to activate a faster breakdown use a tarp to cover whatever volume you get. Throw all your trims anything green is good.
