Re: Papa Green's Utopian Sub v2 - You, Me, and Barney's Farm makes 3 - Perpetual 2000

Hello there just jumped in!
Looking really nice, was that 4lbs in a ebb & gro you were going for! That would be great news! Best of luck

In your flower room, how high over the tops do you keep your light?

I have a light rail so I need a number to shoot for:nicethread:

for sure +reps for whats to come

Dang Papa, everytime you post updated pics I go speechless.

:thumb:

Thanks. They're going through that phase where any direction you point the camera you get a nice pic.

Welcome aboard the Sub!

The E&G has 15 pots on it right now. 1 g/w would be great I think which would put us at about 1.3lbs per light. I've never reached those numbers before so there are a lot of x factors, but I'm starting to feel pretty confident the scrog will deliver. The ones on the floor are much harder to predict at this stage.

On the mover I keep the 600 as low as I can get it and not burn the plants from heat. Its moving, so you can go a little lower than usual. I also let the light mover run about 3' on its rail. So the light actually is only directly over a plant about half the time, so the lower the better. Then you set the delays at each end to make sure the plants don't bend in. This is easy - you can see it in a day if they start to reach and you just add/subtract a little delay. Also, I have the mover on its own timer that keeps it moving a few minutes after the lights are out. The bulb is still hot.

Using this much spread, and only a 600, I have seen differences in the quality of the bud down the middle of the track vs. the buds on the sides. Makes sense. The stuff on the side is further away, and the light is moving, so they are at the extremes of getting decent light. But they are still budding. While I love the good stuff, there's no reason not to grow at least SOMETHING in every inch of light. That having been said, I will try to make the rows a little closer next time.

Hope that helps.

Great info
what was the difference between outside bud and inside bud... fluff nug in the center?
I only have one 1000w bulb for flowering (and 1xtra 1000w hort BLUE mh that sits in a box) so light rail seemed to make sence... NO idea what the weight will be.
Thanks for your time!! and :goodluck: :goodluck:

Hi Papa That The Utopia Haze for outside really looks healthy, should be a hell of a plant outside. Where did you anchor the sub?:)

Don't think they got the picture thing working yet!. I clicked it and it did get big, but it wouldn't go small again. Had to load the page again. Oh Well!
I can't wait for the Scrog to finish.....it's from outer space!:)
Take care my friend!:grinjoint:

Good questions. Pleasure to talk cannabis anytime!

Here's some pics of the outside vs inside. The density of the buds is about the same, just smaller and fewer of them. If I had to guess, I would bet about 1.5oz on the small and 3+oz on the bigger plants.

The mover makes it really tricky to get any consistency to the pics. ;)

They'll get the pics working again. I sympathize. Its easy to break the code in these things. And since I think he's doing it to appease me and I guess others - I can be nothing but supportive. I know you're not harping either.

Outer space scrog! I love it - cause gravity means NOTHING in this badboy! I got buds growing in every friggin direction - upside out and inside down!

Hillarious! I went back and looked and you're right - one big finger and knuckles! My buddy got "spoused." No go from the wife. So now I've gotta find her a new home quickly, or bring her back inside in the next day or two. And I'm gonna have to do something about the plant as well.

She's already poised to be a 5' plant inside. I am pretty sure I have someplace for her where she can grow to be a tree. I'm hoping a nice 6-8' plant.

The last one was giving us the finger, what do you make of this 'un. The outdoor Volde:

I love the way they look outside! At home with their fellow weeds. LOL I hadn't even noticed how bad the yard has gotten 'til I posted this. Hrm.

And since the A/C has been operating properly again, I have been able to drop the temps a little at night to see if there was any purple to be had. Hard to see, but I think the Volde has another treat/surprise in her:

once again, all i can say is gorgeous....looks like volde is purple, love that color, i love the diff. colors in a garden....keeps your eyes moving....i wish i had a space outside hidden....we are, but kids are nosey....so i guess what i mean is snoop proof.....we do have a duckfoot, and i think i wont get "spoused" with it, even bought her a hugh pot the other day....we have fly overs, and the hellys hover and take pics right above the veg. garden....went out last yr. and waved at them....get sooo angry....but air space isnt considered private, so the war on drugs goes on from above....even with a license, it puts us on a "watch" list, so we just avoid it all....no outside....but we are going to try the duckfoot....dont know anything about the potency or whatever....anyway, congrats on it all, its all gorgeous, and im curious about the scrog as well....getting ready to start a second plant (one) one....i dont see how you could move with several on a scrog unless you put them on a wagon, like a sheet of plywood with small wheels, then it would be mobile....will talk to hubby about it...hes the inventor in our family....we even have a mobile chix coop now....haul it with the lawn tractor....later, lavendar

I hate the fly by stuff! Assholes. They spend more on fuel for one of those flights than I make in a year off my cannabis! Luckily, where I am, the budget has hit the county in some good ways. They had a helecopter DONATED a few years ago, but can't afford the fuel and maintenance, so the copter is grounded this fiscal year.

I have a small rolling desk. I think I will use that to put the plants on for a movable scrog. Just gotta take a big deap breath and jump in. I have to admit I've been basically recouperating from the last few weeks. Gonna need some motivation to get the movable scrog going. The one in the pics is actually on wheels as well, but that setup is obviously occupado.

looks great in there !!!

Thanks much! Hectic and crowded and very not-neat - but I have a BLAST hanging out in there every night. Got my laptop - tunes and Hulu and 420 - and its just really fun to be in there right now. And the plants are doing better now that most of the setup is done.

Now that's poiple :grinjoint:

I have had it happen to certain outdoor plants after a light frost. Made it pretty, and very marketable, but didn't seem to do much more to the stone.

So, how does Harvey do looking through the periscope with his nose twitchin'?

I'm never super concerned about purple (except as a sign of deficiency), but these look cool. And you're right - I don't think it will affect potency or high at all.

Harvey controls time and space - no need of a periscope. ;)

SCROG Pics

Here's some pics of the scrog. Mostly focusing on the Volde with a few of the others. I have moved the Utopia to its own res under there. The Utopia yellowed a little more than I woulda liked a little early. Bummer. Am pumping the nutes to her and she seems to be greening up a little. It was just too hard to keep all these strains happy in the same res.

But that was the last time I should have to have multiple strains on same res! :yahoo:

For those who missed my last journal - basically I started in a bathroom with a few bag seeds in November of last year. In order to get the room and variety up and running fast enough, I've had to be mean to the plants. There has almost always been some that are getting too much and some that are getting too little of something.

So the leaves look haggard. And there's no rhyme or reason. But damn if the buds aren't coming out mostly fine. I wish I had kept her a little shorter and trimmed more of the branches, but I think she'll produce fine.

Without further ado...

EDIT: After reviewing the pics, "haggard" was going easy. There is every kind of stress visible in those pics. And the fact they're finishing 12 days late is proof as well. Oh well - can only get better.

Minor tip for newer growers

Hi all. I just wanted to throw this out there. This is my own take on the situation, but I think its pretty valid. For newer growers, don't be too tied to the breeders estimates of time for your seeds. And use the longest time frames given. Their estimates are based on optimal conditions and treatment their entire grow. This is tough for some of us.

When there is a deficiency or stress, it can and usually will slow the growth of the plant a little. So say you have a minor N def. If it takes a few days to spot it, then a few days to fix it - you've just added a week to the grow.

I think this is very important. The buds will fatten sooooooo much in the final week or two of their life. Its very hard to wait. The pistles are turning brown, you've been waiting months, lots of hard work, and the propaganda about harvesting with clear and milky tris is starting to kick in. RESIST! Let them swell til they can't swell any more. If your bud is over-ripe the first time you grow, I think you will be the first and only person I've ever heard of with that problem. Let the tris turn amber. You WILL see it.

And if you've had deficiencies like I have, that final finishing can be slow as well. Its ok. I go for 50% amber. If the plant is super healthy it takes about a week to see her finish and there is about a 3 day harvest window. If the plant has deficiencies, it takes about 10 days to finish and there is a 7 day harvest window.

Again - all this is my own thoughts on the subject, based purely on observational evidence, so take it in that context.

I agree 100%. In my last grow I bought in to the propaganda and did an early and a late harvest (two weeks apart), thinking the early harvest would be more cerebral and the late harvest would be more physical and stoney. Pure hooey. The only difference I could tell between early and late harvests was that the late harvest had longer lasting effects and the buds were bigger. I'll always let 'em finish (50/50 amber) from now on.

Great advice as always Papa :thankyou:
