Un-Lucky Queen 12/12 Hempy

OK! As I humbly crawl away saying damn I shuda read a little closer before I spoke. Thanks all for the heads up but thankfully I caught my error before I spread the nutes. I was close but......
I'm off now for some reading and comprehension lessons.

Hello everyone!

I'm back from a weeklong vacation, tanned, a couple pounds heavier (but also in better shape) and I've got some updates. Pics later tonite maybe, but words for now.

My watering pump failed last Wednesday, from what I can see. I came home some wilted and sad plants.

I'll be able to save some of them....4 of them are right on track and look really good after they perked up.

The Un-lucky Queen proved her unluckiness once again.....she didn't look like she'd make it so I chopped her down this AM and I'll get about 1/2 ounce from her.....maybe. I left all the lower buds on the plant. They were sticky, but airy. I didn't want to hassle with 'em. What I did get looks like it will be very good.

The heirloom Sativa may, or may not live.....the next couple days will tell.

The others have fattened up nicely, but they still have more time......so we'll get back on track here in the next few days and away we go.

I don't recommend leaving plants for a week.......

Welcome back!

Glad you can salvage some of the ladies.

please check email and PM. I'm ready to start my LED/HID grow and need help with something.

I'm still considering several options for being able to leave town for a few days. I'd like it to be as passive as possible with the least points of failure as possible.

Thinking of maybe using regular pots with bottom holes in big trays or individual trays with 1-2" of nute solution. Basically, it would be just like a hempy bucket, but with a larger res.

Welcome back, Doc. Hope you enjoyed yourself!

Thanks bro! I did enjoy myself....quite a bit.

Well, I think all of the plants are going to pull through, although the heirloom sativa (that's what I'm calling it.....I have no idea how it's genetics slipped through) is still looking ragged.

I had to remove a bunch of dead leaves, but what's left is green and the leaves are starting to get that waxy appearance again. Yeah....they don't look as perfect as they did before they nearly died...but they're coming back fast and things are going to be OK.

Adding Osmocote to the Advanced Nutrient plants was a great idea! They bulked up quickly! Here are some pics in no particular order. The only other comment I'll make is that 3 of the colas are friggin huge......as big around as my forearm.

I'm thinking that 12/12 from seed is a very attractive option for growing. ;)

So, the title of this journal turned out to be pretty accurate....lot's of bad luck! On the other hand, the good things and the lessons learned far outweighed the couple set backs.

I'm thinking for my next grow it'll be either this Skunk/Diesel, Blue Dream or Flo 12/12 from seed.

Ooo Blue Dream, very nice. From what I have read, all of those should do well 12/12, since they are sativa dominate, yes?

I'm currently growing Blue Cheese 12/12, and I'm planning to run NLxHaze 12/12 next, though I have read mixed reviews on the strain.

By the way, isn't it cool how resilient these plants can be? ;)

Good to have ya back Doc,nice recovery.RoorRipRoorRip

thanks! It's good to be back.

I've got some Barney's blue Cheese seeds....I'm looking forward to how yours do on 12/12! And yes, these plants are very resilient! Just look at how they keep growing despite us trying to poison them with far too many expensive "nutrients."

Did someone make blue dream seeds? I thought it was clone only...mmm, love me some blue dream.
:nicethread:

I love the BD too.....amazing smell and taste and a perfect balance in the high.....wonderful stuff.

These Blue Dream seeds were made by crossing Blue Dream clones (female obviously) with a male Flo. Then back crossing the BD pheno males with a Blue Dream clone until the strain was stable.

Welcome back Doc - looks like Murphy struck your garden, sorry to hear that. Good that the unlucky queen is no more - she was cursing your grow. Here's to good luck for the rest of you grow!

On the next grow, I hope you choose Flo. Blue Dream is played out, it's so five minutes ago :smokin2:

they're getting better....even more good things from this morning till the evening. Damn! These plants are just amazing....so resilient.

This is the "heirloom" sativa. For those new to my journal, this seed was from a Sour Diesel/Skunk cross. There's sativa in that family tree, and somehow this seed snuck through with a 100% Sativa phenotype. I wish I had cloned it.....

this is the densest bud on the Sativa....weeks more to go, but starting to get some nice crystals.

The main cola below is 24 inches long and about a 7 inch diameter at the thickest part. It's dense, sticky and frosty. There are others just like it.

I've been messing around with Osmocote+ and Dynamite Mater Magic ferts in my outdoor flowers and veggies.

The Mater Magic is not a CRF (controlled release fertilizer). It's not prills, but rather a slow-release organic powdered fert. It's organic, stinky, and not something that would work well with passive or active hydro, but meant for soil. My tomatoes have never looked better. It's not stinky in the sense that you wouldn't want to use it in soil indoors, but it would turn rancid in a hydro system real quick.

I like cosmos and know them well from growing them over several years. I top-dressed my cosmos with Osmocote+ a couple of weeks ago. Explosive vegetative growth at the expense of flowers. The flowers are beautiful, but there are less of them. Now, based on just this one data point, I would say that it might be a good idea to use the OC+ as a base nute and maybe add some extra bloom nutes during the flowering cycle, but again, just based on this one observation on a different species of plant. I've never seen vegetative growth like this before.

Don't write of the flowers on those cosmos just yet....wait a bit and I predict you'll see the best flowers yet.

But certainly using OC+ as a base nute is a perfectly sound idea......however from what I've been able to learn, the 18 6 12 formulation is pretty much perfect for our beloved plant. Perhaps a bit of P during the seedling stage for healthy roots....but not much else.

The colas on my plants are pretty large.....and that's with osmocote plus. Not bad.
