Un-Lucky Queen 12/12 Hempy

Hi Doc,

I put some prills of osmocote plus in a gallon jug and some water and they went up to about 1400 ppm, I think it is as they say on the website if its hotter than more is released, so i just put a little water, and then add to it before i put it into the cups. works great that way also..............

What are AC block plates? I'm thinking I may vent the hood, but it is problematic for me because I don't want to pump all the C02 out of the room..

Doc, I have a separate intake and exhaust for my lights. The air in the light ducts and the air in the grow room never mix. Air is pumped in from outside through the lights and back out again.

Hopefully this was only an experiment. Soaking the prills and feeding the plants the leached nutes is not recommended. The prills need to be in the medium with the plants so osmosis can do its trick and pull from the prill only what has been used by the plant.

They are reflective plates that block the 6" holes on the ends where you would connect the ducts for air cooling. There is a significant amount of light that escapes through those holes if they're left open when you're not using the a/c option.

Most reflector mfg make specific block plates for their reflectors for that purpose, but if not, you can easily make some from sheet metal sprayed white with a rattlecan, or you can use aluminum tape for a quick fix. Don't use metal-colored duct tape though, use real aluminum tape.

I like the12/12 option....a lot. I can pack about 15 plants into the same space I normally struggle to get 6 into.

6 plants a 3 oz each=18oz and lot's of trimmin
15 plants at 1.5oz each=22.5 oz and much less trimmin

Determining sex is far easier on 12/12....can do it in solo cups under the T5, saves dirt/perlite, etc.

That's what I needed to know.

That you can grow them in the cups until they show. That's exactly what I needed to know.

:thankyou: brother ;)

thanks to all the participants in my journal! It sure makes it fun.

I just snapped a few pics as the lights went off:
the idea is to get about 20 of these in a 5x5 space, under a single 100watt light. Very doable with a stable pheno. The plant is just 10 inches at the base....it's just one cola growing straight out of the container.

Here's the neighbor to the plant above. This one is Advanced Nutrient fed....so it's smaller and the buds are less dense and I've had to remove some yellow leaves.

Below is the Hempy/Advanced Nutrients. Since Osmocote isn't designed for perlite, you'd think the Advanced would beat it....nope.

Advanced soil foreground, soil/Osmocote in the background. I'd like to take some side by side pics with a backdrop, but the pots are now plumbed into the watering system and it would disturb the roots to move them. Come harvest time I'll have some numbers for everyone and some better comparison pics.

Yet another soil/osmo. This thing is going to be a resin ball in a few weeks.

Finally the other Hempy/Osmo.

don't let anyone tell you that nitrogen slows down or decreases flowering. That's pure rubbish.

Overfeeding plants will hurt them, so will underfeeding. Cannabis specific nutes are far too low in nitrogen for the flowering stage. I have no idea why this is done. It makes no sense at all.

Some folks fancy that the nitrogen makes the buds taste bad....but I don't agree. Overfeeding the plants makes them taste bad. Give them proper nutrition in small doses and they stay green and produce larger, better buds. At least that's what my garden shows witht the Osmocote.

Remember, this grow was 12/12 from seed. I'm going to get more than 2 ounces from once plant for sure, and likely an ounce and a half from several of the others. It's easy to sex them and you can pack more plants per square foot with this method. All in all, I like it very much.
;)

What have you learned about 12/12? Are you planning to go 12/12 from seed again Doc.

So far, here are my impressions about 12/12. I'll have some objective numbers after harvest, so I'll have a more objective opinion at that time:

1.)You need a cheap source of seeds (usually meaning not femmed seed)
2.)You need a strain that does well under 12/12 from seed.

For example, I've got 9 plants in the garden and all them are tall, single cola plants, as they should be for the 12/12 method. But I've one crazy ass Sativa that has branched off like crazy, even though I trimmed lower branches off of it several times. That plant is NOT a good candidate for 12/12, because the whole point of this method is to have a bunch of plants in a small space, SOG style.

So knowing your strain is key
3.)Sexing the plants is super easy and can be done while they're still in solo cups, which is what I did on this grow
4.)After they grow up, the plants aren't really that much smaller than plants that are vegged a bit....maybe 30% smaller.
5.)This one is important.....you have to legally be able to grow a large number of plants....doing this with six plants would be a bad idea.

So, all in all, with the right strain and cheap seeds, this method is a GREAT way to go.

6 plants at 3 ounces each=18 ounces
15 plants at 1.5 ounces=22.5 ounces.....in about 3-4 weeks less time.

Nice summary of 12/12. I have heard that many of the best suited strains for this method are sativa dominant hybrids.

Doc,
I need some help here awhile back you mentioned you had a Hempy, Perlite, Osmocote. Please point it out or please take a photo and let me know. Also the seed and seed for you Bady please. I've gone with 3 of what I hope are WW in the above mentioned set up. I did mine different than you in that I went Perlite & CFL 18/6 right from day one using Home and Garden until I transplanted a week back. Then into 2 1/2 gal. Perlite/ Osmocote with 430 Sun Agro. I'm just as sick as can be due to these plants are only now 10" at week 5.
I've decided tonight to top using uncle Bens 4 colas and gettem outta here ASAP and go with soil and much better strain. Also soil and Osmocote for starters and 12 & 12.
BTW did you rinse those prills before the PPM test? I'm wondering if rinsing would drop the PPM ? Cuz Osmocote site said 7 days ?!?!?!

Hey bro, sounds like you have some good stuff going on.

pretty much all my posts have pics...just go back and look at them, most are labeled.

If you decide to use Osmocote in the hempys, put half the charge at the level of the drain hole and the other half a couple inches higher than that.

One thing for sure....your plants will grow really fast in a hempy bucket.

One of the main reasons I signed up @ 420Mag was to subscribe to this thread!:goodluck:

Hope you enjoy your travels and that all is good upon your return ;)

Don't know if peeps already have this, but here's a great application chart for Osmocote Plus that has three nutrient regimens and amounts for different sizes of pots.

Damn that hot. BUT now I need to really up my dose. My plants are struggling for any size so in the AM. man nearly a cup of added nutes?
Took cuttings last night so if I OD the plants I've new stuff around the corner.

OldGoat- Maybe you could try supplementing the TRF base, that are already in the bucket, with a dose of your favorite soluble bottled nute system?
