The Quadsquad Thread: A Community For Quadlining

Here is my first quadline plant. Growing in coco and curious what size fabric pot do you recommend?

TIA

Beautiful work my friend 😎
I’m a big fan of air pots and coco.
But I’m currently running 2-200 liter and 1-100 liter bags of coco.
I have grown some big girls in 3 and 5 gallon bags.
If your veg time is short you can get away with 3.
If you are still training I’d go 5 gal bag.

@Bill284 is who I'd ask about growing in coco.

Nice looking plant. I like to leave more of a stump when I top to help minimize chances of splitting later on.
Thanks Azi:ciao::thanks:

I sooo agree!
I let them grow before topping . Inside grow works, but outside quads will still need some bracing.
Once the colas get heavy, thgy tend to splt so I tie them. Just had my 2 banana jealosy split after a rain and they were tied with nylon strings.

So as Azi said, the longer the better.

What are the groups thoughts on defoliating ?

I've seen quads where there is nothing left but the growing tips o_O

I just hate to remove fan leaves until absolutely necessary :yahoo:

My plan was to wait until the branches were long enough to take off the least dominant lower branch on each node and top the end, 3 cola's per branch, 12 cola's total.

This should keep the width of the plant(s) under 20"..

Day 33, Acapulco Gold at day 33.

I'm only a fan for specific reasons like air flow. The fan leaves are a nutrient bank the plant can call on in flower so I like to leave as many of them as I can.

I'm trying a modified version of that now. I left 5 nodes coming off the main and removed all of the growth nodes along each branch leaving only the end one. I took only the growth tips though and left the fan leaves on.

I do a little when the plant is about the same age as yours- just to let the light get to
the growth tips to encourage more branch growth...I remove all leaves on the topside of the branches, because they tend to shade everything else..
Then, about 3 weeks into flowering, I defoliate the bottom 1/3 of the plant...(sometimes)
Everything else gets to stay...
like you, I figure those leaves aren't there just to look pretty... 😁

I have one girl that is ready to start Clipping ;)

All nodes had the lower two set of branches removed and any fan leaves that were shading tips !

Helps to visualize what You want the plant do. There is so much new growth Coming Under Your Control

This was the Maui Wowie yesterday at day 33..

Ahhhh..... The crew that likes it on all fours is still at it I see.... .
Hahahahahaha....(Ol skool 'Quad' liners joke).....

Good to see you guys still preforming bondage on plants and calling it an art form....just sick and twisted.... See I'm in good company then.

because the ladies seem to like it...😁

Been a minute, LR!
How in the hell are you?
Still growing with the CMH lights?

Alright I've read through about the first 50 pages so far and I have loved every oz of information that's available here. New member, new grower currently in my first grow.

I just moved to a legal state and a neighbor was moving south and gave me a ton of seeds, fertilizers, and all kinds of old school tools. I purchased a tent, light, ac infinity smart setup, etc... and set off on a new journey. With that said I kind of jumped the gun, done about a month of solid research and jumped in, then realized I could have easily used another month or two of research.

I started off with Bubba Kush and GDP both from 420 and then later learned that GDP loves to grow tall. So I started my quest to learn to keep it short, I've only got a 4x2x5 tent and realistically about 30" of grow space which i am sure will be a challenging task on a first grow.

I'm about 30 days in, and I think the plants are looking rather healthy, however I think I may have started training too soon and I topped too soon. I wish I had given them about another week for stem growth. I pulled down the fan leaves to give the new growth as much light as possible and I think i may have pulled them down too far, I later read about the 10° rule.

Should I pull all the stakes up and let it go for a good week with nutes and then come back for training? Or keep as is and be sure to not pull down those mains past 10°?

My main concern is that I've stunted them, what are yalls thoughts? New growth seems to be going well over last 24 hours but still not sure. Topped/cleaned lower nodes on 11/18.

SF2000 - 22" / 50% / 575-625 PPFD
Vivosun 4x2x5
Fox Farms OF soil and just introduced Big Bloom and Grow Big at 50% on last feed.

Ill continue posting throughout my grow journey! Hoping to hear from or see some of the OGs of this thread still active.

Welcome to 420Magazine my friend :welcome:
If you want to say Hi and meet everyone here is a link
If you want to start a journal for that terrific garden you can do it here.
Great to meet you. :high-five:

The best way to tap the knowledge base here is to start a grow journal. There are lots of very good growers on here happy to offer advice for the asking.

Quadlining is such a simple and effective tool that it is a favorite of many growers. I like it so much I include a link to it in my signature along with a few of my other favorite things.

My main concern is that I've stunted them, what are yalls thoughts? New growth seems to be going well over last 24 hours but still not sure. Topped/cleaned lower nodes on 11/18.
As long as it's not an auto version of those strains, you'll be able to veg your way out of any early issues that come up.

@MedScientist @ThirdUncle @Bill284 @Azimuth

Thanks for the welcome and the words! I'm proud of them for sure but worried I overdone it but my most recent pics from a couple hours ago showed much more promising growth than over the past few days. I know they can take a few days to recover before any serious growth, I think it's anxiety from lack of experience and knowledge.

I'm super excited to quadline after going through the first half of this thread. Ill get a journal started this weekend with all of my logged info up to date.

Thanks again! I'll report back soon.

Hey yall! Day 41 from sprouting.

Haven't gotten around to creating my journal yet, been busy with family and holidays, but I will try to soon. Posting an update of where I am at in the quadline process.

For starters I misread/misunderstood some information and I got clipper happy and cleaned everything below the 3rd nodes. Later realized that this was more so in the mainlining method when going for 8+ tops. I was in the middle of clipping on GDP when I got a pit in my stomach and started regretting it. So they're clean below the 3rd nodes except for leaving bottom fan leaves on GDP.

They seem to have recovered from it but I made sure to document this all for myself so I don't make the same mistake again. They look so bare and it definitely slowed growth down drastically for several days. They're starting to pop this morning and I did notice that the 4 tops are pretty even. Did one more round of adjusting anchors and I think they'll be at the edge of my pots soon.

Do I start letting them stretch at that point? How long do yall allow for stretching before flipping? I am in no rush to flip, especially since I removed those lower nodes I have less growth to work with.

Bubba Kush is the one without the lower fan leaves. GDP is with.

I don't believe I'm doing half bad for my first grow. I've just been really kicking myself for cleaning everything below the 3rd nodes so early. I feel like I'd be so much further along atm but it's all a learning experience that'll be applied to my next grow.
