The Quadsquad Thread: A Community For Quadlining

Hey All, I have been meandering thru this thread and I'm getting ready to join the Quad squad. :ciao:

Seems I made a boo boo.

I'm past the good point of topping the little girls at the fourth node. They have just got thru some minor transplant shock and really wanted to wait another day or two before I topped them.

Here's my question......

Should I still top at the fourth node or top at the 5th node and use nodes 4 and 5 instead of 3 and 4? I'm stoned I hope that makes sense.

IIRC the thinking behind waiting until you have six nodes to top at the fourth is to have a bigger root mass and the secondary branches will be longer and mostly ready to start training.

Not sure if it matters, I've done it both ways ;)

Cheers

Thanks Chuckeye appreciate your help.

I missed the fourth node but I'm also planning an up pot and burying the stem more. Can I use either 4 and 5 nodes or 5 and 6 (which is just coming in but the node spacing will be closer)?

We are in the same boat G-1-3.

The only thing you missed is transplanting :yahoo:

But not a big deal.....

At this point I would go with nodes 5 and 6 and bury the stem 😆

Lol I had to wait until my tent was done flowering but I got impatient and started my seeds without a place for them to grow. O well 😂.

Lol well I guess it's time to chop, good thing these plants grow like weeds 🤣

No your not lazy but it's kinda funny we have similar dilemmas.
Ya we do. My plan is to do 5th and 6th nodes because their spacing is close together. Should give me some easier training, I think 🤔 hopefully...

Do you want those branches close to the soil? Is that why you want to plant her deeper?

Those would be about 6" above the top of the soil if not planted deeper. The only reason I want to plant her deeper is so I don't have to have 6+" long hooks to pull her branches down flat lol it's purely for my convenience.

I really wish i had buried them up further when I cleaned lower nodes. Noted for next grow for sure.

My first thought is you have to give up some real estate that could be used to build more roots. Just sayin…
Also, I can’t remember the term, but it’s the line that defines above/below ground. That line moves if she’s planted deeper & the plant can stall until she reorients herself…

I'll have to look into that. I've always treated marijuana plants like tomatoes and when up potting I always bury the stem deeper and deeper each time. Lol now you got me thinking about whether I've noticed roots up top or not after harvest on old grows.

This girl will be going into a 7 gallon pot and I was assuming that the 2-3" of stem I bury will start rooting. I'm not super concerned if she stalls for a week because she's at least 2 weeks ahead of her tent mate.

Just like tomatoes, the stem will grow roots (advantageous roots) if planted deeper in soil but I've read that those roots are actually a sign of stress which makes sense since you are burying the crown deeper than it was before which forces the plant to restructure itself as @Thirvnrob mentioned.

I no longer do that but instead try to make sure the seedling gets adequate light to prevent the stretching and leggyness.

As you might imagine, I saw that on one of @Gee64 ’s posts…
