The Perpetual Healing Garden - SweetSue's Joyful Return

I call it scissorless trimming :) Gets rid of those unsightly yellowing leaves.

:laughtwo:

Home sweet home :hugs:

My my Sue, she was a lot thirsty but it's amazing how quick she came back up.

I started the drench and watched for the change. It was almost immediate. :laughtwo: She was dry enough that she floated. I need to be more aware of the scheduling from here on out. It's one thing to do that in veg and another thing entirely to do so in flower.

Good afternoon my sweet SweetSue. I've come to your garden with some hugs for you.

:hugs: :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: :hugs:

Not only the hugs but poetry too. No wonder I'm so terribly fond of you.

Daily Update: Monday, April 25, 2016

Let's start out with the star today. Dark Devil Auto (Day 73) She's swelling up beautifully. She got a malted barley grain drench today, so let's see if that starts another wave of pistils.

The apical pistils are beginning to change now. A sign of the end being near.

Her flowers are simply encrusted with trichomes.

The flowering tent. The CBD Critical Cure is 75 Days now and setting her buds. She had a TransWater drench today. Next drench she gets Recharge.

The Veg Tent.

CBD Critical Mass (Day 75) She's panting to get into flowering. One more drench to go girl.

image11018.jpeg

Auto Jack Herer (Day 75) Just plugging away. I'll need to check the trichomes one of these days, but I know she's not there yet. She's getting close. Breeder says 68 days and she's at 75 now. Within the next two weeks, to be sure. I'll do the test bud tomorrow and decide then.

The seedlings are looking a bit thirsty.

Seen from above I can see the distinguishing features of the Carnival and the Bubba Kush. They're running four days apart, Carnival at 8 days and Bubbha Kush at 12 but they're nearly the exact same size now. The Carnival is front, left, with pointier leaves.

image11026.jpeg

Much happier now.

image11027.jpeg

That's it for today. Sorry to be so late. I treated a good friend out to lunch and we sat and laughed for three hours. We tip well so they don't mind. They fight over me in this restaurant. My mother was a waitress, so I've a soft spot.

So my day was filled to overflowing with joy, and I'm assuming yours was as well. Keep spreading that joy around now. It's a thrill that never needs down time. :laughtwo: I'll be seeing you around the yards.

:Namaste:

Sue, when do you anticipate that the critical cure will be done? Everything I read said 65 days flowering, plus give or take 21 days for vegging. That would put her at 86 days, and she by no means looks close.

Curious as I had to shut down my girls and one was at 74 days (auto, but otherwise unknown) that looked nearly identical. Wondering how long she would have taken over all.

Your garden looks fantastic. And congratulations on getting oil made! :hugs::hugs::hugs:

Perpetual motion working well. All stages represented here and some really nice flowers! I was glad to see the JH colors, they are very pretty. Nice fringe purples. I agree it seems she will be a long flowering pheno. So more great colors to come!

- *sigh of relief* It's always good to get such a compliment from an obviously superior cultivator. Thank you Shiggity. The Auto Jack Herer is taking on some lovely coloration. Between her and the DDA I'm feeling blessed with colorful flowerings. I need to start more seeds though, and this time actually get them to germinate. I have two empty pots taking up valuable real estate.

The CBD Critical Cure is a photo, so flowering time didn't begin until I flipped her, which I didn't do until Day 64. I like to veg at least as long as I intend it to take to flower. She's been in flowering lighting for 11 days now, so I estimate another 54 days or so until harvest. Somewhere around mid-June she'll be hanging.

Thank you for the oil compliment. I'll be doing a batch of CBD oil in the next couple days. As soon as the Dark Devil Auto is ready I'm looking forward to making a batch of purple oil. :laughtwo: I can only imagine the effect DDA oil will have.

I think I have a touch of oil fever. Lol!

I'm sorry you had to shut down. Hopefully it won't be for too long. :hugs:

Well I guess that's why I shouldn't try to catch up while I'm half asleep :laughtwo:

I can't say I blame you on oil fever. I would be doing the same thing! Actually, I do have a lot of drying plant material right now. I wonder if it would be of any use for oil or if it's too premature.

A few months minimum for the tent. Fingers crossed that by the end of the summer, it can go back up. Maybe sooner if I'm lucky. Until then, I'll just live vicariously through the journals here.

:laughtwo: I hear you. Many nights I'm stumbling to bed at 4-5AM and when I wake the next morning I wonder what kind of trail I left behind when I'm falling asleep at the wheel. Lol!

I've done the site without a grow journal. I felt homeless. That's why I started this one two weeks early. I'll be pulling for your eventual return to growing.

In order to be used for oil it needs to be dry enough that you're only holding about 15% water content. Most of us use Boveda packs which keep it too moist. If it hung to dry for 4-7 days it's ready to use for oil. You can dry it out more by leaving it out, but lightly covered until you feel it's dry enough, or you can decarb before oil making, and that process will remove the rest of the water content.

It's common practice to let the plant material cure for a month, but I'm of the opinion that there's probably no sound scientific basis for that. The curing matures the components, beginning the conversion processes that decarb would be completing. I believe the curing is most beneficial for the smoker, since taste and smell can improve. Those are terpenes coming into play, but neikodog just demonstrated for us in the Study Hall that decarbing destroyes the terpenes anyway, so the cure is a waste of time IMHO. It's the cannabinoids you're looking for in the oil.

The improvement in potency from curing can likely be attributed to the synergistic effects of the converted THC, CBD and the available terpenes that didn't degrade in the cure. One of the things we're exploring in the Study Hall is creating a protocol that combines the powerful effects of traditional CCO with a carrier oil extraction done with freshly harvested material that would retain the terpenes and flavinoids, thus getting the full benefit of the synergistic entourage effect. Those terpenes and flavinoids are so important to the process that I believe it's imperative that we get them into the cycle somehow.

Have I mentioned I don't do well with lanky?

I've been looking at her and muttering about it since she went leggy on me in seedling stage. My cultivation style is happiest with tightly-noded seedlings that begin branchings right above the soil line. This one was pushing all my alarm buttons. Yesterday, mwhen I watered she fell over and didn't recover the way I expected. This morning she was leaning over against her big sister's stalk and had a kink, so I took matters into my own hands.

I cut a solo cup down to size so that only a small portion would have to be sifted into the soil and fitted it around her like a collar.

image11031.jpeg

Then I filled around her, being careful to drop in a bit of Roots! around the stem as I built up.

image11032.jpeg

Now I wait for her to straighten up. I trimmed some fans that were blocking the light.

image11033.jpeg

Now I'm happier, she'll be happier with the strength to support her branches, and all's well in SweetSue's world once more. :battingeyelashes:

I was intending to make oil with my little Med GOM 1.0, but I've just changed my mind on that. This plant is destined to be pain relief for a friend with rheumatoid arthritis. This morning, on a whim, I tried some with a vape. It's a balanced ratio strain, so I was pretty sure it wouldn't get me high, but I have a pulled muscle in my upper back that's bothered me for more than a year now. I wanted to see what effect the strain had on this.

I'm happy to report that I had almost immediate relief from the ache. I only tried a small amount, probably less than half a typical load in the vaporizer, and was rather impressed with the ability of this strain to ease the discomfort of inflammation. That small dose only lasted me about an hour for relief, but it was the immediacy of the relief that I was most pleased with. My friend and her husband just purchased a vape pen, so I know he has that option.

I've decided to simply offer him the plant as is, and he can experiment with it so we can see what kind of relief he can expect.

This is a really nice feeling. It makes all the expense and frustration it took to get to this point worth it.

Daily Update: Tuesday, April 26, 2016

It's pretty quiet today in the forest of Susan STIHL. Let's take a look see, shall we?

Starting off in the flowering tent.

image11035.jpeg

CBD Critical Cure is now 76 Days and 11 days since flip. Look at her trying to take up the entire tent. :laughtwo:

image11036.jpeg

One of the Crossroads came up overnight, so locked into her shell that she couldn't crack out. Not a peep from either of the other seeds in here or the Super Cheese in the bag pot.

image11037.jpeg

I started another Crossroads. I really want to try this strain. This seed I'm being extra careful with. I think I'll start it in Rockwool, the way B A R has tried to get me to try for months now.

image11038.jpeg

On to the veg tent.

image11039.jpeg

All quiet in here today. You can tell looking down on the CBD Critical Mass that she's ready to go.

image11040.jpeg

That's Carnival (Day 9) front and center, Strawberry Blue (Day 13) to the right and Bubba Kush (Day 12) on the left. The Carnival Strain is beautiful from start to finish. Even in seedling stage she gives off an air of sophistication.

image11041.jpeg

Ahhhh...... The Dark Devil Auto (Day 74)

image11042.jpeg

image11043.jpeg

image11044.jpeg

image11045.jpeg

One of the two main colas from the center of the plant. You can see how quickly the pistils are beginning to die back.

image11046.jpeg

Looking down into the plant it's obvious she still has a ways to go though. Yesterday's drench did indeed send out another wave of new pistils.

image11047.jpeg

It's fascinating how the species begins shooting tiny flower balls off the main bloom. In the end the buds are a swarm of tightly packed, incredibly dense "berries". :laughtwo: Each of those balls will be the equivalent of a full hit by the time she's done swelling. :woohoo:

image11048.jpeg

I may not get as dark as the gypsy did, but I'm going to get dark, that's for sure. What a magnificent specimen.

image11049.jpeg

image11050.jpeg

That's my view of the garden today. I'm so glad you stopped to visit. Get out there now and spread some more of that joy I managed to inspire. I know, pretty cocky of me, isn't it? I find it hard to believe that viewing these lovely plants doesn't inspire joy in anyone. How privileged we are to be able to indulge ourselves in this hobby that's slowly but surely changing all of our lives.

Thank you for letting me be a part of that joyful expression in your day.

:Namaste:

Good morning Susan. Your garden is lovely per usual. :thumb:

I have a vision of Dark Devil Autos filling my grow tent to the max. What a lovely vision. I will have to purchase seeds and set aside time to rock those girls. Maybe this fall. How awesome would it be to have 10+ Os of that beautiful bud for the year to follow? Quit inspiring me, Sue :cheesygrinsmiley: :hugs::hugs::hugs:

Hi Sue. I just got up to date with your journal, and enjoying the progress! Nice work!

One question. a few days ago you gave your Critical Cure plant a drench. How tall is she now? She looked huge in the picture!

Thanks!

I'm headed back to the house now. I'll measure when I get there.
