The Hexapus's Garden

Super low wattage there. No chance of trouble - or use a battery.
What could possibly go wrong...?
( Don't use your wife's jewelry- that would be high risk. )

A couple pics on the fly.
The Mama Thai definitely seems to be on the mend. I gave another feeding on Monday at ph 6.3. I can still see curly leaves on the new growth but nearly not so much before. There barely was any new growth before... The really curly ones in back are older leaves.

For some reason the Thai Stick is about the last plant in the collection I expected to be doing well. But here she is, surprisingly happy and healthy. Plenty of time left to fix that though :thumb:
The branch sticking out to the right is the one I'm spraying with silver.

Outside the grow, life continues at its usual frantic pace. I'm hoping for a little sanity to return within a couple weeks. I won't be holding my breath for that.

Looking good over here mate, that new growth stands out. I would say good luck with the branch stressing but luck, we don't need luck where we're going...Damn, wrong journal for Star Trek quotes lol. I'll send some positive energy over or I'll keep looking at the Thai Stick, that should be enough to stress it (works for my plants) :thumb:

Life support systems are shaky but holding for the dear planties and, debatably, for this journal. Another week slithers on past, hopefully never to return...
Not much to report really. Besides which I accidentally deleted most of the photos I did have time to take.
One more cutting grew some roots. In the vermiculite cloning tub this time. It was another Thai Stick- which I don't really need because I've got a couple already- it is pretty much the only thing I've managed to clone in the last couple months. Planted it anyway...

The veg room is slowly creeping back towards a presentable state. A few odds and ends in there. Critical Cheese in front, Malawi hopefully revegging to her left. It will definitely be several weeks to go before I have anything worth putting into flower. I'll put the Mama Thai in when I feel she's recovered enough, and when I have some clones. I went and chopped a fair number of her new and improved tops off, for that purpose.

image13731.jpeg

The Critical Cheese is doing her dearly departed sister proud so far. There have been plenty of times I've taken healthy veg plants for granted. This is not one of those times, and it brings me happiness to see a happy plant.

The Thai Stick is making a big dent in my pipe cleaner reserves.

I'm facing a bit of a trimming backlog now- though not nearly as bad a backlog as I thought I was, last night, after I smoked that joint. I went in after 5 days away and saw all these dead yellowed up leaves, and sticky buds laying everywhere and had a little panic attack like 'Holy shit that's a lot of trimming and it all needs to be done yesterday!' Three mangy looking Pineapple Chunks, and the two Malawis.
I reassessed this today though. The Malawis are ready for sure. I managed to trim up some of the P Chunk before I had unexpected visitors and had to hightail it around the corner to hide the evidence. Decided it's still too early for the PC- even though it's been over 90 days in flowering already. The screwup early on set it back a bunch. So that's cool. I like it when trimming is postponed. Reality is I just do not have time right now.
And I don't mind leaving the Malawi longer. The effect of that stuff can be so manic that I think it will be ok if I just leave on the vine for a while longer. I'll call it an experiment. So- mañana it is.

Hasta la vista, amigos.

:passitleft: Loving the shots from beneath the pot Weaselcracker. Lots of linear quality in this plants. Made me glad I slid by this way on my way to bed. Think I'll take a few more hits first. :passitleft: Here ya go.

Hi Weasel!!:hugs:

How you doin? It looks like you've got a handle on things over here. I absolutely love that critical cheese!!! :dreamy: doesn't it feel nice when things go right every now and again? I sure know I appreciate those moments.

I like what you're doing with the Thai. Good thing pipe cleaners are cheap eh? What's your plans for her when you put her into flower? What are you gonna look for from her in order to give you big buds? Or do you just throw her in and hope for the best?

I know the feeling of having the rooms creep their way back to a sustainable state. I've finally got my veg room to something respectable. I was actually thinking today how things were coming together in an all-around fashion.

Just wanted to let you know I love you and appreciate your company big guy. :passitleft::hugs::high-five::Love:

How do you like the verm cloning? Will you do more of it?
I stole about 2cups of verm from my neighbor the other day with plans of sticking my toes into the verm cloning waters.

Well, Tead...it hasn't really worked so far, but the jury is out. Someone will probably will shoot me for this, though it probably won't be you because you claim to be cheap and lazy- but cheap and lazy is how I went with the vermiculite and I may be paying the price for that. It's a biggish box of vermiculite I've had kicking around for years. Came from the hardware store lady who knew I had been looking for perlite. When they get shipments of certain goods like solvents and stuff- the cans come double bagged in a box full of vermiculite as a safety thing. So she saved up the stuff and gave me a box of it. Everything seemed clean and she said there had been no spills. I didn't actually want vermiculite, I wanted perlite, but I didn't want to be rude and say no to the box since she went to the trouble of saving the stuff for me. So the other day I said what the hell and tried some.
So I'm not sure about the quality of the stuff- and who knows, maybe it's full of lethal toxins...;)
I used a couple gallons of it in a tub just because I want to be able to water it and leave it for a week same as the coco. But a smaller amount would be fine if you don't mind watering more often. I tried putting a bunch of cuttings straight into vermiculite as well as some in peat pellets. It was a peat pellet that rooted.
I haven't seen any particular advantage over the coco yet. I was hoping it might stay wetter for longer but I'm not sure it does. I do like the peat pellet idea so far though, even though I swore I would never use them again. At least they're available here. I don't like ordering in rockwool cubes and they're not as biodegradable.
Peat pellets in perlite or coco might be next on the experiment list. I've had trouble with the cloth on the peat pellets trapping the roots, but I don't mind trying them again and maybe I'll find a way to cut the cloth part off, or something...

I feel we're walking a similar path and thinking similar ways.
And ya... reusing verm from packing material... luvin the idea. I'd be doin the same if I were in your shoes. Did you try cleaning it in any way? I could see bleaching it.
Peat pellets have been my winning horse lately as well. They don't seem to do as well for me when the temps are lower, but they seem to do well when the temps are floating around 85f. Doin seeds at the moment myself.
hmmm... I seem to recall a few rockwool cubes somewhere in the deep depths of a closet.... hmmmm.

WC: You haven't been over to my Journal lately, but I had good luck with the water cloning method. I was trimming out the lower tiny branches of one of the juveniles, and tried the water cloning method. Out of 12, I got 10 that rooted in 8 days, and didnt have to scrape, split, dip in hormone, or dome over. See Post 347 on page 24.

I just use rapid rooters and clonex gel. I had 10 out of 12 root. I think the two misses were user error. I put them in my dome and let the heat and humidity do their thing. I love your ingenuity with the verm. I never would have thought to use it to clone but it makes sense with verm holding that precious moisture close to the stem. Hope all is well otherwise.

Cheers Weasel

How nice it is to have you fly through, Pigeons. I never see you out much. I know you're probably growing up a storm over there in Hollywood or wherever, with your video journal, but most times I have barely enough internet trickling down the pipe here to even make photos work, so video isn't an option. Anyway- hope you're doing well and I trust being a movie star hasn't gone to your head.
(Just kidding I know it wouldn't).
In some ways having a few ups and downs in the grow is worth it- just to appreciate things more when they start to get back on track. Not that I've ever had a time without ups and downs. There have been plenty of weeks in the past though that I would come home to an overflowing veg room and have to machete it back and toss out plants. Not like that now. I'm happy to have one healthy vegging plant and my one rooted clone.
Should I be concerned? I don't think so. As long as I'm always learning something and moving forward I don't mind. It's just when I feel like I'm going backwards or spinning my wheels that I start kicking myself.
The Thai Stick is in flower! She's been there for a few weeks already. That's a very slow flowering plant. As for what I'm going to look for in the big buds, or at least nice buds, department- I'll keep looking at PotChimp's Thai Stick journal for those, and hope mine turn out half as good. I'm going to take the Mama Thai as an example and feed lightly. Looks like I've got at least four months flowering time left to go so there's lots and lots of time left to screw things up. :thumb: Wow- four more months...
Thanks for visiting, Pigeons. :high-five: :passitleft:

cheers to ya,, agin,, final harvest of the mama thai,, wow, nice plant,, the verdict is in,, wow,, i say again,, 71.4 grams dried and jarred,, two and a half ounces,, wow,, over an ounce bigger than my biggest plant to date, took a long time,, in flower for 97 days,, nearly twice as long as my lemon hazes 56 days,, pushing twice as long maybe,, and by far my biggest nugs to date as well,, i might just enter one in the nug contest next month, for kiks and gigs,, i will post a pic when i get er

the flower room, at the moment contains a mama thai/thai stick,, freakin great lookin plant, over 60 days in flower,,,, a blueberry, sticky as all get out and smells very different ,, i have a clone of it just taking hold now as well, in the veg room,,,,,,,pineapple chunk in there too,, finishing the stretch now,, i hope,, strechin like a stretchy thing,,and a mama thai/p chunk about ten days from harvest,,,

all from your generosity friend,, cheers agin,,

ok, one little story now,, i had a hermie plant in the flower room,, a afghani cross of mine,, everything afghani hermies for me,, even the regs,,, where all my hermie probs come from,, no more afghani for me,, none,,

so,, this hermie afghani,, i chopped it all off, just a couple bare branch stubs left,, then our grandkids stayed with us for a couple weeks,, this bare stump got put down in a corner and forgotten about for over two weeks,,

well, when i picked it up to chuck it,, iffin it did not have new growth on it,, from havin none at all,, that goes against all my readings,, saying old growth must be kept on to reveg a plant,, anywhoo,, just a story,, but,,

oh ya, near forgot,, did forget even,, heya pidger,, cheers to you as well friend,,

Cheers to you too nivek. :passitleft:

Before I get too far behind again- thanks for the input on cloning. Nice to see you again Noob (aka Commander Cannabis). Noob I used to clone the 'regular way' with a tray full of rockwool cubes- misting and sometimes a dome. Then circumstances forced me into this long distance grow routine and I never could get the cubes to make it through a week without drying out, till I started putting them in a tub of moist coco. Now I'm trying the same thing but with vermiculite instead of coco, and also trying peat pellets instead of rockwool.

Tead, yes I will try washing and bleaching a batch of vermiculite. I'll test the ppm of the rinse water too. Was in a hurry...
Like I mentioned already, I've seen some weird things happen with rootballs looking trapped in the cloth cover of the peat pellets. I'm giving them another chance though, and if I have problems I will think of modifications or maybe make my own peat pellets or something.

Ak I'm going to go check that post of yours out now. By the way, do you know you can link directly to a post? Just click or possibly right-click on the post number - copy it and paste the copied link in wherever you like.

Cheers to you too nivek. :passitleft:

Heya sue,, all the best sent your way,, times are challenging, all around, indeed,, Nuttin but best wishes for you sue,, or maybe I will just call you 'teach',, seems fitting

Weasel my man, you're one of my tightest pals on here. Feel like we started this craziness together. There's only a handful of folks that stick around here this long and I feel like we need to stick together. I've gotta lotta love for you big guy and my head never had a problem keeping below the clouds.

As for the ups and downs of our gardens. I feel like that's the most exciting part. And perhaps the most stressful. But typically I only have myself to blame for biting off more than I can chew and not taking my time to learn one step at a time. But boy do I appreciate the feeling of having everything all worked out! It's a wonderful feeling to know that when you close that door, everything's going to be ok.

Thai is in flower?! Whoops. My bad. (Forgive my oversight...who am I kidding forgive my highness) I think She's going to beast it for you!! I have Thai seeds so, teach me daddy!!

Lots of love Weasel!!

:passitleft:

Things have been really busy with no time for anything and blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah but I get a break here soon. The Pineapple Chunk is so overdue for harvest that I'm not sure I can do anything with it other than make it into hash. Sugar leaf has all died along with some of the bud and it looks like crap.

Here to bore you with are some pics of the Critical Cheese. Not sure what it is about this plant that attracts me so much but it seems to just radiate health- even though I tried to make it stop.
