The Hexapus's Garden

I don't think it matters if they are scented or unscented. The adults are repelled by the softener, and I think the weave of the fabric is too small for them to reach the soil to lay their eggs.

Ok, that makes perfect sense. Thanks. Had to toss some reps at you for that. :battingeyelashes:

I'm jealous of untopped plants. I top with great reluctance. But I have to most times to avoid runaways and uneven plants and chaos during my absences. It also helps with lower branching so I can take cuttings sooner. I think (?) At any rate- it's stressful watching those plants shoot for the ceiling while I sit there stressing out and asking them nicely to please make side branches soon.
On top on a plant can increase yeild by 33%. I've ran same strains with one top and Untopped. You loose large cola but get more flower sites and buds.

Cheers

Do I read this correctly millertm? You're suggesting that one topping will increase yields by an average of 33% or up to 33%. Either way, this means I need to get on board and start topping consistently. Ottawa Green swears by an early FIM. Any thoughts on that? I think if I'm going to do an early topping it might be best to make that a FIM, no?

My policy has been to wait until the plant's at about 12-14" high and then top. That's the way I learned from Graytail, and if done correctly and you show any competency in cultivation you should expect in excess of three ounces per plant. But now I'm watching people like arteekay and Jaybizz with their early toppings and 4-6 ounces per, or the same with OttawaGreen and his early FIMs and I'm wondering if I need to expand my experiences.

You guys are so addictive. :laughtwo: I can't imagine my ever being bored around here. Lol!

So, my NP, 3 of them. Two topped, one not. 32g dry Untopped, 102 g dry other two about 50 & 52. Same on old grow under T5. 3 topped one not. About same raito, 3 were ~70 ish each and one 48. Sorry to be a generalist but on my limited experience, I've seen higher yields from topped plants.

Cheers

I call that significant enough to sit up and take notice. Thank you millertm.

Looks like a strong female Pot Chimp. :high-five: Any idea of parentage?

Yes. My first Thai Stick grow was all male. Right then I pollinated a GDP plant I had growing and saved the rest of the pollen from one of those males. Immediately I started a second Thai Stick grow, but by the time I got a female Thai Stick plant old enough to pollinate that pollen I saved from the thai Stick male was clumped up. I didn't think it worked because I didn't see any seed formation and the flower grew over with more hairs, then later the tag I put on the pollinated branch fell off. I forgot about the project for the most part. Then I found a seed a few months ago while I was rolling some Thai Stick weed and planted it; I've got that plant flowered out about 1/3 of the way now. I wasn't sure where that seed came from until today when I did it again and found these other seeds. So it's Thai Stick x Thai Stick. :)

Oooo..... That's just too sweet Pot Chimp. :high-five:

Catching up on your grow.
I usually attribute leaf boating and curling like that to heat issues. Is it possible you've got a plant that's more sensitive to temps than others you've grown?

Thanks Tead. I don't think so- but I won't rule it out. And I know better than to disregard your tips. It's a cutting of the same plant that I've been growing for a year and half now through various ups and downs. I'll try to be open minded about the heat idea though. In fact I've already kind of flipped the overheating theory around in my head a bunch just to try it on for size. I just don't see much fit. I won't bore us all to death with my list of reasons why though, even though it's very tempting. Judging by early indications, I think the flush treatment worked. But I hope to confirm that tomorrow. I've been out and about, and out of range. So much catching up to do already.

Hey a Weasley. Just a hello. 13 weeks today or Mama Thai. More Harvest tonight. Happy happy joy joy

The Thai Stick finally shows her pistils. :thumb: She sure isn't in a hurry about flowering so far.
I brewed up a colloidal silver potion and started spraying one of her branches.

That plant looks great, Weasel!

Thanks Santb. So far so good with the Thai Stick plant (to my surprise).
I harvested one of the Malawi plants last night, left a little on the stem, and stuck it back in the veg room to reveg. Overall the Malawis have done pretty well this round (also to my surprise), after the little freakout early in flowering. It's kind of a funny plant- with a million small but dense and frosty buds on it. I know the buds look bigger in the photos- but they are actually almost all separate little buds- mostly about 1" by 1". Low odor, with a pleasant fruity grape Kool-aid kind of smell. Lots of work trimming- but when isn't it lots of work..?

Two left to go.

Looking great over there Weaselcracker. How did you make your Colloidal Silver? I have half a bottle here but if it's easy to make it's something that I would be interested in trying when I run out :thumb:

Incredibly easy Kriaze. Although I shouldn't speak too soon without results. You can find lots of good online tutorials. I grabbed an AC/DC adapter - 'wall wart' power source from my defunct electronics junk box. Cut the ummmm... 'prong' off the end, separated the two wires for a foot or so at that end by pulling them apart, stripped the plastic off the last couple inches of them, and attached a piece of silver to each wire. I then dangled the two silver bits in a container of water and plugged in the adapter for a night. Pure silver is recommended, along with distilled water (I used rainwater). It went from zero ppm to 30 ppm after a night. That's what I'm spraying with. I might brew a stronger batch. Also my silver isn't 100% pure so I'll dig around for better silver next time- though I suspect it's not as important as the tutorial I read threatened it was. Apparently silver plated cutlery works, coins, whatever. Also you can use a 9 volt battery (or any battery but 9v is easier to attach wires to) instead of the adapter.
Capiche?

Excellent, thanks for the write up Weaselcracker. On second thoughts I'll stick to buying the bottles, if you think me and chemicals don't mix then you should see me with electricity, add water to the mix and it would be fun lol. All the best :thumb:
