The Everything SWICK Club: 2023 And Beyond

one week into flowering, they got fed Recharge yesterday and lolly popped today
bottom water gets an 1/8 tsp Blue Planet Cal Mag powder and for ph 8 drops of vinegar per gallon.
they both have level canopys and are sipping a quart a day

the Hindy Kush was topped for eight cola, I let a few side shoots fill in some of the empty spaces so there's about a dozen plus tops

the Pineapple Chunk was LST of the main cola only and there's at least twelve tops

I got to get better at trimming the undercarriage like above. I tend to let them go during flower and prob should trim more

Here are my latest pics. Chugging along nicely.

Gary Peyton on the left is plumping up nicely.

The blue widow on right has taken on the purple color. It’s really cool looking in person.

Let me know if you have any questions. Still swicking about a quart each every other day and top feeding about a quart so basically split a gallon between them every other day.

I spread them out with the net so the two plants have filled the 2x4 tent nicely.

It sounds like a partial or full harvest may be on the cards. Those pics will definitely help tell the story.

Hmmm … didn’t realize that the “Grow Buckets” that I made a few years back are called SIP’s
I was planning on using one or two of them on a grow at some point.
I’ve never had Eggplant’s produce so well ! Anything I used them for seemed to grow great

:ciao:

So a Swick uses a cloth or rope and goes up into the soil from the liquid source/tank ?? :passitleft:

I’ll have to check it out, it’s interesting to see all of the diff methods people like to use
I don’t know what the origin is of the word Swick nor why it is called a Swick. It is a form of sub-irrigation that works by wicking fluid via capillary action through the medium. It is a form of self-watering. Essentially, the wick is kept moist by liquid from a reservoir, which is topped up from time to time. The wick is applied directly to the grow medium.

The theory behind the Swick is that wicking will deliver the desired amount of water to the plants roots so that the plants can concentrate on building plant and bud structure. Some of the benefits of sub-irrigation are improved plant structure and increased yields.
Hey SniperX, this is from my introduction to the thread. Nobody seems to know why it was called a SWICK. A common issue with sub-irrigation is that calcium is not readily available when wicking into particularly living organic soil mediums, and must often be supplemented and given with a top watering. We are seeing that the most successful sub-irrigated LOS pots are being top fed intermittently as well as sitting on the SWICK. @PerkPot happily stumbled onto this solution and their grows have been exemplary.

Potaytoe Potahtoe 🤷‍♀️

This is pretty awesome. So are you saying the root was amputated and you managed to re-root the plant?

yes. But not intentionally. I must have guillotined it moving something around during transplanting.

So, I stuck it in this wick cup I made and magic happened.

What has me baffled is everything I read about autos say they are 'programmed' from the day cracked from the seed.

This one appears to have changed its timing from the day it actually took root in the soil. Its approximately 2-3 weeks behind my others of the same strain which I germed and planted at the same time.

Granted, it is in a super small pot but looks healthy as a horse

Thanks Carmen, good thread !:blunt:

WooHoo!

I have been coming to the Swick meetings for a few months now, hanging in the back for the Coffee and Snacks! My Sponsor recommended I come clean and admit ....

Here Goes...

Hi, my name is MedScientist, and I have been a closet Swicker for a while now! Although, in the closet, I run a recirculating, top feed system, and use the microfiber wicks to primarily pull the PWT out of the buckets, so I can top feed every couple hours for Explosive growth!

Last year, or so, with recreational laws allowing outdoor grows, I bought a tent and tried soil. 😔 To ME, soil just complicates things, and the results were just OK? So this year, I modified by bucket system so each site has its own reservoir, removed the top feed and Master res, lengthened my wicks, and stuck with Turface as my medium, in 1 gal fiber grow bags, in a bucket, in a bucket, in a bucket!

I am still working out some kinks... reducing air gap, adding additional wicks, and manually drawing from the res to top water daily, to keep up with demand!

WTF! While I am writing this, and enjoying my Bong.. I had an actual skunk waltz right past my chair in the garage. The funny part, besides all the jokes my family is throwing at me about the smell in here (not the skunk, but the skunky smell), is I though it was my cat, and I reached down to pet it! 🤣

Anywho... I forgot where I was at... here is a pic!

This is Day 118, from seed!
