man that sucks about the magnetic pump. i keep getting totally different readings from my rez to the shot glass. i dont have a pump in my water luckily or id be S.O.L.

i kept hearing its more accurate in glasses or containers but last night i was getting way different readings.. just now i tested it and im at 5.7 in the rez and 5.9 in the shot glass.

Normally id add 5-6 drops of ph down to that if i read that in my shot glass, but if i did that my rez would read 5.5 and my shot glass might read 5.7 or in that range.. each are fine with me but its just the incosistancey between the 2 for me. and last grow i had 100% healthy (looking) plants. leaves were always perky and green and never drooped like this batch has. the only difference is the way i measure. for me, my rez is small. your rez is probably pretty big compared to mine lol... i think for you you fall under the exception catagory lol. your rez probably is hard to find a stable reading in. you and alaskan1 have pretty big resevoirs so for you guys itd probably be a good idea to test in a coffe can or somethin like that. shot glasses just arent big enough to get a stable readings for me.

how do you measure. what size of container do you use?

I´m going to check some out and try it in my new set up .
Thanks for the education on the mylar part .

if you can get it its a nice cheap version of mylar just sold as an emeregency blanket. i'm trying to go to flat white but painting is such a hassle and i just painted this whole room not that long ago. i dont really want to paint again but if i have to i will

My current method which I just did today for the first time is...

Scoop about 300ml into a 1L container out of 100gallon rez and use electronic meter to check in that container.

Second check using a small vial (maybe 5-10ml?) using drops.

I also popped the meter into the reservoir a few times and got comparable results so I feel really confident in the readings.

i wish i had thought of using a bigger container. i had maybe 30ml in a shot glass and was getting my readings from that. not a very accurate way. ill probably just use my rez since its so small..

let me also add DAMMMMNNNNNN 100 gallon rez? yea you deffinately are the exception on what i was saying. your rez will give you different and less stable readings as a 1L container would.

i wish i had tried your method before trying the shot glass one PFFFT

Whats up bro just checking up on you. not sure if this is acurate. but your having flucuations from rez to shot glass. You also stated that you spend like 15 bux or something like that on your meters. I can only tell you in my past expirence with cheaper style meters is that the need to be calibrated all the dame time. The reading are very inacurate. so the only issue you have might just be from the meter. You know as well as i do meters are a must for healthy plants. I noticed you spent alot on supplies. Dont skimp out on the most important ones.

very true cheap isnt the best, but im no noob to my meters. my PH meter gets put in 4.01 buffer and 7.01 weekly at home and my hydro store calibrates any meter for free so ive brought my ppm meter in after i cropped my afgooey and it was spot on so i got this part under control.

my concern didnt come up when i checked my rez PH. my concern has been building up for 4 weeks now. ive been going by the PH in the shot glass for so long that the plants looked droopy and i trusted the reading it was giving me but i still was getting results like my PH was acting up. id check and check and it would always be fine according to the meter in the shot glass. once i put it in the rez and adjusted it to how the meter read in there my plants got healthier..so its not my meter. my meter is working fine my plants are reacting great to it. i will be upgrading the meter soon if possible but it will be a while im doing fine i just need to stop tweaking my methods. i do fine when i dont read too much into things lol

Cool got it. but can you do me a favor. can you take a sample from your rez in a decent size cup. then dump the same sample in a shot glass half way full .then check that sample to see if the ppm are way up. something about small glasses cause the ppm reading to act up. if you can that would be great for myself and for whom ever else is interested. i just want to know cause im assuming you check your ppm in the same shot glass. im just interested cause i used a shot glass in the past the ph was spot on i just found my self under feeding my plants because the readings looked high. witch is probubly not you case. But i took a closer look at your plants and the leaves undernieth look like there yellowing from a slight lack of nitrogen.

hell i dont mind submitting info for research lol. ok well heres my readings from coffee cup to shotglass. i held each in there for 30 seconds and took the pic

it fluctuates a little bit between the 2. thats also something im worried about. but so far my PH has been the biggest issue for me. well besides one time my rez on ym WR#1 got to 1400 one day and has nute burn form it a little but other than that its been mostly PH lol

i took extra pics of the difference with that same batch of water with my PH meter and this is what im seeing

IMAG11532.jpg

i held both of those in there for 30 seconds each. its weird the PPM is higher in the coffee cup than it is in the shot glass but the PH is higher in the shot glass than it is in the coffee cup. the smaller the container the more unstable it gets...BUT the bigger it is it also the more un stable it gets so theres got to be a middle point where everything is completely accurate or at least as accurate as it can get.

my meters are getting the same readings each time. just too unstable in a shot glass. coffee cups probably arent as ideal but it deffinately helped in this example

Ok so i did a quick check they where both on point. but i had it backwards i havent used a shot glass for a while. So what happens is when i stick my meter in a smaller container the little electrods touch the bottom of the glass causing the ppms to apeer lower than they really are so when you check a bigger cup or something like the size of your rez you will get a more acurate reading, like the ones your use to seeing. but that is my expirence with a small glass . the closer the elextrode things get to the bottom of your sample soure the lower the ppm readings will seem to be....(blue lab pens) might not do that with every tester. hope that helps a little. oh and yeah thats not 6ppm i just noticed the times ten and my math was a little off. but thats why i grow herb and im not preping rocket engines lol.

sweet im going to do the same with my meter see if the results are the same. thats damn close though 1 tenth on the ph and 6ppm thats close if you ask me.

lol they might be close but my rez water range is from 5.5-5.8 i dont like them out of that range so .1 off is huge for me.

the PPM is off by alot more than it looks like. what ever that reading on the meter is times that by 10.

so the coffee cup is 108 and the shotglass is 104..the coffeecup is at 1080 and the shot glass is at 1040. 40ppm off

i dont like the inconsistancy of the shotglass i will not be continuing that method lol

Chief !!!!!! How ya doing today? Hows the crop?

hey bud how u doing today? the crops doing great today their really showing growth. last week i had that scare where i thought my widow had root rot and today im assured its not. i had a hunch it was the general organics line of calmag. it turned my roots brown and stringy..wait till u see this pic i post after this of the roots today
