QUICK UPDATE ON WHAT IVE LEARNED THIS WEEK.

First off, my last grow id PH and PPM my water straight from the REZ but kept reading how many people measure the PPM&PH by filling a shot glass or other small glass for more accurate results. Well everyday thats how ive been getting my readings. Last night i looked at my plants for 30+ mins just thinking about why my plants seem droopier this grow compared to my last. WHY WAS MY LAST BATCH SOO F@CKIN HEALTHY THROUGH THE TOUGHEST TIMES?!?!?!

well after getting a reading of 5.6 in the shot glass i decided to drip my PH meter into the bucket like i did last grow and when i did i was shocked. it read 5.1 so i scooped some more water into that glass and measured it again and i got a reading of 5.6 again.

now heres where my decision making happened. i either had to trust all these testimonials ive read online that shot glass reading is more accurate, or i had to trust my last batch's results by reading in the rez.. i took my most logical route and went with my old method and this morning is the healthiest these plants have ever looked. COMPLETELY HEALTHY!!!

so much for getting more accurate results in a shot glass. my plants are back to the way they were last grow. perky, green, and healthy.

i honestly been a little bummed lately thinking these plants aren't as healthy as my last phenos. its been getting me a little less confident about them when i see them droopy 40% of the time and even when they aren't droopy they never were as perky as they are today

i posted that first pic at 7:49pm last night and this new update was posted at 8:41 am today. 13 hours and this is how they look by getting the most accurate PHing they could possibly have,

for any DWC guys falling victim to shot glass readings failing on your plants turn to this method. it will save your crop alot of stress.

Nice binding & bending there !

Question do ,the foil you are using right now ,why dont you use a smooth one like mirror foil or plain white as this doesn't cause hotspots.
Dont wanna be a smart ass ,just a pointer .

Again nice job
Keep em green.

lol thats not foil, thats a space blanket. its the blankets people use for hypothermia. same thing as mylar just cheaper (3$ per blanket at walmart)

But why not some thing smooth ,you cant tell me its optimal

IMAG11492.jpg

If i bought a grow tent id have an un smoothe surface and those are optimal.

Foil and mylar are way different with their elemental properties. Foil makes hot spots easier than mylar ever will. Dont worry bud ive donevalot of research on space blanket. It is Optimal when compared to foil lol

@Casa..sorry i re read that last post and it seemed short.

space blanket has no similar properties as tin foil does.. they are 0% related. mylar and space blanket are made from similar elements. foil can cause hot spots with out creases and thats because foil reflects light unevenly. mylar is a more balanced elemental mixture, it reflects light evenly regardless of creases of folded marks. thats why grow tents have designs because for mylar creases actually help send more light to certain spots with out hot spots like aluminum would reflect

tin foil is a metal, mylar is a nasa invented plastic. metal reflects heat differently and more uneven than mylar and space blanket

nice one thanks for the explanation
I thought you use aluminum foil, thats why.

I never use mylar or those blankets (beside my tent)but maybe i should once .
i always have a smooth reflection ,like painted walls or white plastic foil.

Again nice work on the ladys in green .

ive seen some cool set ups with the flat mylar. i went to the hydro store and saw how much mylar was and damn near had a heart attack seeing that theyd sell me a roll for my room size for 45$ i had already spent up in the high $600's that day on supplies and didnt want to spend any more than i had to. paint would of been 30 a gallon for flat white. i found a buddy who had these extra sheets of space blanket laying around and gave them to me. in my last journal on page 1 it'll have a pic of the un raveling of the blanket.

ive also seen people use foil, i wouldnt use it in a grow. its an eye sore on the eyes, and tears too easy.getting it pulled tight with pins would rip it and if you used tape the tape would give out every few weeks from the lights. yea this stuff is super cheap at walmart and does the same thing mylar does..still flat white is the way to go. i might try that soon

I f*$#ing hate my panda paper. I run negative pressure with passive intake in my room and it just sucks the stuff off the walls. I also think I got brain damage form using the spray glue crap.

I'm ordering some of this from the grow shop to replace it... Growilla Grow Room Paint, 1 Gallon

My intent is to do primer and then grow paint. EDIT: I may consider painting the floor too.. but I kinda think it'd be crazy trying to keep it clean.

lol yea you have alot of air flow running through your grow room with all those lights and plants. space blanket deffinately isnt for your setup. youd have also spend a good couple hours hanging it all around your room too lol. i have a small closet with mostly air pushing in so it stays in place in my grow room.

I've been having a similar experience with PH craziness.. check this out..

I was measuring using an electronic blue lab meter which is regularly calibrated and always gave accurate results. But.. I was using a magnetic pump while taking the readings and doing my readings directly in the rez.

When I left my plants under my neighbors care he started using the pool test kit style test with the drops and seemed to be getting different results. Because of this I've started scooping out some water into a container and measuring in that like you tried. It seems to be working for me..

My best guess is the pumps were screwing up my readings. My neighbor also told me to ditch the recirc pump because he's had magnetic pumps cause PH fluctuation in the past. So now I'm just using airstone with no pump. After all this I intend to always double check my electronic meter with the drops test.
