The Capn's Simple Hydroponics Cook Off - Goal: 1lb Indoors - Journal

Got my entries LST'd aka tied down

also wanted to show a pic that shows how much faster and bigger the plants are growing in the grodan grow cubes compared to soil

Thanks a lot

Top. In the lowest pic, it looks like it broke off right at it's weakest point. FIM is "F$CK I MISSED", but you didn't miss.

That's a good topping for sure.

VERY NICE, s1ing. I can tell it's grown, just since the last picture you took. It will really fill in now that you've opened it up.

And those pics of the comparison from dirt to rockwool are amazing.

Are the drip rings managing to get good water to the center of the pot?

Good luck tomorrow buddy!

LOL yeah I forgot about the I Mi$$ed part. Thanks for making me laugh. I have missed before and had some odd looking tops for a while

Thank You Sir, as for the watering rings I am not sure yet. I do know its really heavy after it waters. I am thinking about getting bigger airpots before 9/15 and that could cure that!
I am glad to be back in the airpots as its so easy to LST via paper clips and string :)
When we first met earlier this year I was transitioning away from them cause of the gnats. Kinda nice to use them again, wasn't able or just plain out was to lazy to LST the last 3 or 4 months lol.
How long until I need or should have them screened up? I am asking cause I want to flower them out in the new room and its still NOT done yet lol. Cant wait to show pics of the "Better Room" CAn't wait to be dialed in next year. Still so much to do before next Spring like a Mini Split.
Yeah tomorrows small surgery ought to be a piece of cake, thanks.
heres a pic of this months cuts which will be Decembers crop

Here is a pic of my "Dual Method #1"
DSCN05774.JPG

It didn't work well like that so I grabbed another lid and turned the tote sideways and also used the saws all and cut of the first 6 inch of it and now its kinda hinged like. Still isnt the easiest res to use but since I have always fed drain to waste anything right now is giving me a learning curve lol.

a close up of the OG with expanded clay pellets to keep away the algae thats been trying to hang around. The stalks are so much thicker than I am used to

I have been so busy getting my Better Room up for next months reload but still have LOTS to do, here is a pic of the "L.C.P" that is powered by a 100 amp circuit at 240 Volts.
DSCN058010.JPG
Capable of running 16,000 watts of HIDs but not with the 4 guage I am running at the moment. Probably wont use much more than 50 amps, except at start-up. The Dimmable Ballasts (Nano eXtreme) have some sort of independent timing technology and was happy to see the lights I test fired the other day firing one after the other. I know for lots of growers 4 lamps aint a thing but for me it'll be my biggest attempt indoors that is. The 9.5' by 19' foot room will run 4 1000 watt Hort. Super HPS in generic XXXL Magnum Style 8 inch air cooled hoods.
Heres a lil porn, 2 weeks from chop.

This will be the last OG Kush for a while at least in soil that is. Got a request to continue on with the OG but I am hoping after new dude gets Octobers "Cookies" he wont want any more.
SO 18 more days till flip and its not a day to soon, got lots to do before I will have a space for them. I will do my absolute best at getting the "BR" up asap

s1ing, you are living my dream. I hope to one day grow in such a big high powered environment. Even started pipe dreaming about a small wind genny and a conex box. Just those to items and a wild imagination can go a really long way. Great weed!!!

man thanks for the updates. You are quite the electrician. I need a new panel bad!

so you haven't seen any gnats in the rockwool?

I don't put the screen on until I go to flower. Some people will say to do it in veg but it is not necessary. You are doing the same thing by tying out the branches.

Thanks but I didn't build it lol, just hung it on the wall and connected the 4 wires. It was built by a 420mag member here.
No Gnats that I have found yet. There are some kind of no see ums that are more of a problem than the gnats, but even those ba$tard$ dont do much damage, luckily there more of a nuisance. I wouldn't doubt they jack-up the roots and affect harvest weights.
I am going to head back up there today and see what kind of damage that storm might have done.
I'll take lots of pics and post em when I get back Sun.

The no seeums are probably cedar gnats...they fly around your face and bite the shit out of you...they are strictly bloodsucking.

@jlt1202
Maybe you can get something like those conical shaped trellises used for tomato plants and increase the angle of it as soon as it leaves the smart pot. This way it is planted in your pot and is mobile with the pot, and a ScrOG net can be fashioned to the top of it as they are made of metal and can be cut to whatever dimension you want.

I already do this : ) the cages work great, i have them in my personal journals that did very well, made them grow past there tipping point and i got a cone of buds!

I once planned to use this idea for outdoor grows in the tree tops, but never got that idea off the ground.

am i the only one that caught that 'Off the ground' pun?

So after a messed up 3 day work trip I am back, so much flash flooding lately I barely made it back in 2wd. Gas gauge was so low I didnt feel comfortable using 4wd and burning more gas.
So this morning I was able to transplant the 15 GSC both #1 and #3 from 1/2 gal grow bags to 1 gal grwo bags, due to the hassle the bags give me I will soon order some other sizes of air pots. The OG Kush and Critical + entrie plants are growing really fast and look to be pretty healthy. There is now roots hanging out in the bottom of the 1st tote. Hopefully the little bit of residual solution in the 1st tote doesnt give me problems as its so shallow I cant get an air stone to do much of anything. I did add 5mls per Gallon of Aqua Shield to do my best to keep the solution from spoiling. SO Far So Good
Here is a pic of the 2 critical +'s one in cubes and one in soil, you ought to have an easy time picking out the cube plant
DSCN06368.JPG
DSCN059910.JPG

Got a couple of pics of my ultra simple watering system, right now its nothing more than a tote lid with a hole that allows the run-off a place to go
The one pic is a trip there must be so much oxygen in the solution and or the cubes when the run-off was exiting the gow bags via a lil rockwool cub it was entering the flow of solution as air bubbles, never seen anything like it lol so I got a pic of it and of the transplant and one of the soon to be finished and last soil run of the OG

And the last pic is of my 1st attempt at dry ice hash extraction, all from the trim and once I get enough and the right bag I ought to do well. this 1st attempt was from a 120 micron bag and I think its too big

So it's 13 more days till flip and then the fun begins

Thanks Skybound,
Man I was so f'ing tired from the last few days that last night around 8pm I was watching the new episode of Breaking Bad and fella sleep in the first 5 mins lol. Didn't even make the 1st commercial, that and missed a phone call from my buddy :(
Upside is I woke up at 5am and am ready to go do it all over again :)
Gotta get a new and improved watering ( and drain to reservoir) system so I can stay two nights at home:morenutes::idea:

I'm a Breaking Bad fan too, just downloaded the new episode, can't wait to watch it in a bit. IMO, they should've ended the show at the close of season 4, or at least pushed it past a split season 5. I bet Jesse's dead landlord/girl friend will go unanswered.

I like your setup with the drain off collector as well. If I had more space I'd definitely do something like that. Question, could you reuse that water that has already passed through the soil? Under my 3.5 gal pot I have a cut apart snack mix jug that keeps the 3.5 elevated about 3"-4". This allows me to collect and analyze the run off. Also have root poking out the bleed off holes, just 2 days after I transplanted from the 1 gallon to the 3.5. Anyways, I pour out most of that runoff water and put an air stone in the remainder to feed those roots some oxy. If the runoff is good enough for reuse, I'd like to do that.
DSCF11962.JPG

I wrapped the area above and below the exposed roots with black duct tape to minimize light penetration to the roots. should I just wrap the whole thing?

If you dont you'll end up with some lil green men aka algae lol
I catch and reuse mine for up to a week, as long as you have an airstone bubbling away 24/7 you ought to be ok just keep an eye on it. You know what it should look like and what the numbers should read out at so when its not in those parameters drain and make new

Hey Sky, I'm sure sling will chime in with some good advice but yes I would light block the entire thing or it might be time to upsize your pot again soon. I would NOT re-use that water. I wouldn't re-use any water unless the growing medium was soil-less. Even then, I prefer drain to waste in veg. Are you trying to save fifty cents? ha ha ha Spare no expense, my friend. Your yield will reflect it. It sounds like you are doing well if your roots are growing that quickly. S1ing just replied that he does reuse a little water but remember he is using sunshine mix #4, which is mostly coco and peat and perlite. Think about this... if your plant produces just 1/8th oz more, because you use fresh nutrients, it's not worth re-cycling.

S1ing, those beads look like fish eggs! Very neat.

Your entries for a cook off are huge. Very nice job. How often are you irrigating? Mine is slightly smaller. In another 11 days yours are going to be banshees. I can't wait to see this giant SCROG you are making. My Orange will really take off in first week of flower though.

When I do the dry ice shake, I break up the dry ice into golf ball size pieces, and yes I use that red 200u bag on ebay. Your 120 might be a little big but it looks like it worked fine. It looks a little green, but smoke that stuff and you'll see ;-) Be careful, it's potent.

I just popped a couple Orange beans last week. Cant wait to see what pheno you have.

shot, You will love the A.O. check the last few posts of my "simple hydroponics" thread in my signature. I have already harvested a one pounder, and chopping my second now, which I also expect to be a lb. Both of mine were grown from seeds and they are the "Stretch like a mofo" pheno. I can't really say either of them smell like oranges, but the buds are stickier than anything else I have grown. The smoke is potent. It is a real rush at first and then after awhile it is relaxing. The buds are small but plentiful, and part of that is due to my growing style as well. I'll use a 600W metal halide in the first few weeks of flower for the cook off, to try to control the stretch a bit. But I really don't mind the stretch. My humidity tends to run high, and more room between buds = no mold.

The leaves go very dark purple in last week of flower, but no color on the buds. Both of mine took about 75 days to fully ripen. I'm not sure of your growing style but if you are going big, be sure to top and bend down branches to keep them shorter or you will run out of height space. The first two weeks of flower they will easily double in size.

BTW, speaking of the kief, here's another thing you can do with your trim. I made one cup of coconut oil over the weekend, from 2oz of frosty trim from the A.O. (I do not use the fan leaves with no frost on them). This is not your typical "cannabutter" recipe. 1/2 teaspoon of the oil was so potent it ruined my entire day. I was so bent I threw up multiple times and was sick for 6 hours. I have made the oil a few times and have gotten better at it each time. If anyone wants the recipe, it is basically the same as "badkittysmiles" canna oil recipe. PM me and I'll send it to you. I don't smoke very much so I have a very low tolerance, but even for you heavy smokers, 1/2 teaspoon will do ya. 1oz of frosty trim or 1/4oz premium bud will make 1/2 cup of oil. A 1/2 cup of oil = 24 teaspoons. That is 48 doses. ~96 doses for someone with a lower tolerance. It lasts a good 6 hours. badkittysmiles is correct, when she says it is a much better use of your cannabis. The decarb process makes it more potent, and the coconut oil and lecithin make it more available to your body to soak up. I would suggest you try a batch and let your patients sample. Well, on the other hand, you might put yourself out of business because they won't come back to you for 48 days!
