"The Beast" gets serious!

Re: "The Beast" FryingPanFlyer gets serious!

Bottom line, I'm thinking of moving "x" amount of air through either a 4" hole or an 8" hole. Smaller hole greater velocity, greater noise, bigger hole lower velocity lower noise.

You want to make it a little more quiet, use a bigger fan running at a lower velocity.

I guess I could have said this in the first place. Sorry

i got ya, i know what you mean with hole size x noise,,i really dont know what the fan you have looks like either so i could be on a compleatly different page lol,,no reason to be sorry man,,when you get it done post some pics :roorrip:

Re: "The Beast" FryingPanFlyer gets serious!

Hey, I was posting this in another thread when I realized it was most appropriate in my own thread. you people, want to know why I'm the Frying Pan Flyer? Well her it is:

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent bro. Yes, I love the big birds of prey.

I chose the Red-Tailed Hawk as my personal avatar one day when I was working in my cabin about 7 miles up the Frying Pan River outside of Basalt, Colorado.

I'm an Architect, I was staring at the monitor when something flew past the corner of my eye, right outside of the window.

I went out on the front porch, I made the pups stay inside, I knew something special was happening here. I saw these two Red-tailed Hawks chasing each other, circling up higher and higher. Finally, when they had reached 500' or 600' they locked talons, falling out of the sky like Maple tree seeds.

They dropped to about 50', released, spread their wings and flew off. I had just witnessed a pair of Red-tailed Hawks mating, a very rare sight indeed! But I had just witnessed it, this is why I call myself FryingPanFlyer and use the Red-Tailed Hawk as my avatar.

I also fly gliders trying to imitate those magnificent beings! These big birds fascinate me!

Re: "The Beast" FryingPanFlyer gets serious!

have you ever thought about a portable ac to cool the room down. i know there a little expensive, but in your case im sure the pros would outweigh the price.

im just sitting back watching this, waiting for the day i live in a place where i can make a room to myself.. and if/when i do it would be between something like this or a couple aquamist tables. i havent seen any aquamist set ups besides the ones in the seemorebuds video, and ever since then ive been curious.

I sure have, but I'm goingat this incrementally, I'm really hoping that running the lights art night and bringing in cool night air will be sufficient. But I have looked at AC and may have to go that far.

I need to get that fresh air intake up and running!

What do you mean, bringing in the fresh air? If yes I'll just run an 8" duct in through the wall. I'l use an inline fan, this will be a typical low output fan. I'm going larger size but lower speed, this should be a quieter set up.

Re: "The Beast" FryingPanFlyer gets serious!

ok i kno ive asked before but what is better the ona concentrate or the gel??,,fpf ive got that thermo on the way, just orderd it this morning,so hopefully it comes soon,,im about to order the ona but i need to know which one i should get

Re: "The Beast" FryingPanFlyer gets serious!

Well, I've been pretty busy today doing chores around the house. Getting the irrigation up and running. I was having trouble with the zone in my back yard, it looks like I put a fence post through it. I actually found it pretty fast. Damn that winter fencing. We have to put up fencing around all our trees and bushes so the deer and elk don't chomp on them.

The babies are doing pretty well. I'm seeing more and more roots every day. Even the Charlie Brown cutting has finally pushed a root out of the net pot. There are probably 6 with good roots. I hope the others catch up soon, I've got one with 12" roots already and it's looking pretty hungry. Looks like I'll have to add a little food here pretty soon.

So, off to Lowes to pick up some patching material for the irrigation, some 6" ducting to run the light exhaust out of the attic and 8" duct for the fresh air intake.

I'll be back!

Re: "The Beast" FryingPanFlyer gets serious!

Why not go with inline duct mufflers? I've never used one but hear that they work pretty well.

...anyways, sounds like your getting closer to your goal. Keep it up man!!! I love birds of prey too!!! Like the prarie hawks out here. Nice.

I never heard of the animal! I'll check online and see what I can find.

I was looking at exactly where I can bring it out and I have a perfect place for it, there's even a shelf right there that I can lay the fan. The bottom of the duct will be 8'-4" off the ground outside and I can tuck it up close enough to the soffit it will be pretty much out of the way. If it's quiet enough noone will know the difference.

Thanks for the input man, all suggestions are eagerly considered!

Re: "The Beast" FryingPanFlyer gets serious!

Well, I had a nice finish to the day yesterday, I played 9 holes of golf with my partner, we had a nice afternoon. I'm not much of a golfer and neither is he so we had a god time. We took along a joint of his White Widow, it made for a couple pretty funny holes, "did you see my ball, what ball? Did you tee off yet?Oh, wow man, you shouldn't have hit it toward that house, I wonder how many times that window has been broken?".

Alright, I just did a search for inline duct mufflers, there are a ton of them, cost for an 8" is like $60 to $140, I'll have to do some more research to see which is appropriate for my application. But it also looks like something I can add later so I'm going to install my fan today and see how much noise it makes. I'll decide then if I need one.

Thanks for the tip Jas!.
