Tead's Indoor-ish, Winter, Hempy, OGK, SOG

Sweet Sue: My well water is very high in Ca, and I use epsom salts for the Mg. I read labels on plant food while I was out and found that my off-the-shelf MG plant food had pretty much the same trace minerals along with the NPK that the more expensive 3-part nutes did. I also add some molasses to feed the soil bacteria.

I wonder if I'll have any bacteria other than MYKO to feed in Perlite? I know MYKO bonds with the roots, so they have a place to live.

The myco are a soil entity. I can't see how they'd be of any use in hempy. This is where I get nervous. Lazy gardener here. I chose LOs because the soil would do the job for me. :laughtwo: Tead's going to force me to think outside my comfort zone. This is a very good thing. :cheesygrinsmiley:

As an LOS gardener I have no idea of what it's like to grow any other way, so this will be a real adventure for me. One of the reasons I decided to do it was to gain the perspective outside of my myopic organic soil gardening world. You guys are going to have to hold my hand all the way through this. :battingeyelashes:

Don't worry sweetsue tead and me got your back. It may seem like this is gonna be hard but trust me its stupid easy. I grew in a peat moss based soil less mix before tead got me into perlite hempys and i had more troubles in the peat moss then the perlite hempys. Ya sure i screw up the ph sometimes but its easy to correct and its a very forgiving hydro method. I think once you get the hang of it you'll like it.

In my case, it will be the blind leading the blind! I had the opportunity to try something new because I have too many plants waiting for the switch. The bins are taking up too much square footage, so the waste baskets will let me use the vertical space I'm not using.

I doubt I will TOTALLY abandon soil growing, because it is what I have always used. But, for the sake of science, I am willing to do some comparisons, esp if I can increase size and yield. I'm predicting I will get better harvest with a lighter medium, and will use a lot less soil in my future mixes.

Another testimonial!!!! If it's that stupid-easy, I'm half-in. LOL! Anything that makes those pots lighter is my friend! The proof will be in the harvest.

I'm interested in comparing the quality. I've been hearing for years about how superior organically soil grow plants are in taste and potency. Now I'll finally get the chance to see for myself what everyone's talking about. I suspect there won't be quite the difference everyone alludes to, but I won't know until I harvest and cure my first run.

Let me put it this way all ya gotta do is mix up your nutes check the ph make adjustments if necessary, water your girl when the container/pot is light and walk away let her do her thing. If you can grow in soil this ain't gonna be that much different for ya. Yes it is technically hydro but as tead says its the lazy man's hydro.

Now i have never grown in LOS but i did do a run in regular soil way back when and it was slow going far to easy for me to overwater and i honestly atleast for the time being have no desire to go back to soil growing. Once the roots hit the little res in the hempys the growth is pretty fast and before you know it you have a bush lol. I have heard organic has the best flavor but i can't confirm that i have also heard hydro plants aren't as smelly but im not sure i can agree with that either. In hempys come harvest time it will be so easy to flush your plants so i wouldn't worry bout that. In hempys the reactions to problems or good things seem to be noticed pretty fast. Im super excited for you and AK to try hempys! You won't regret it

I feel like we're starting a mini revolution. :laughtwo:

I'll be right behind you guys... Found another little overpriced bag of perlite in town so I bought it.

Alright Weaselcracker. :high-five: Tead's gonna fall over. :laughtwo:

Been threatening for ages. I've got three different seed orders on the way. Have been on the way for over three weeks now actually but once I have some new seeds I'll set something up. :thumb:

WC: Just start with a small container. BTW, it does pack down after being wet a bit. Just pat it down around the plant. I transplanted two of my 4 months old clones, and they didn't wilt at all! I have it documented in my journal. Will have pics once I finish up-potting everyone.

I'm so thrilled!! We get to do a grow together. Where's gypsy's avatar when you need it? Lol!

:slide: :love::slide:

Oh...... Tead's gonna be so surprised when he gets up tomorrow.

Weaselcracker, I've been meaning to ask, how much sleep do you get on average? Also, I'm asking around for favorite sleep med strains. You know I'm useless with indicas. :laughtwo: I'm putting together the info on cannabis and insomnia and wanted to see what members were already using. I just refuse to sleep. Insomnia isn't my problem.

It varies wildly Sue. I do sometimes get insomnia where I wake up in the middle of the night and instantly start thinking about stressful issues which then snowballs. But I've trained myself away from that somewhat.
Mostly I'm just a night owl. It's my only alone time these days. More than that though it's just in my genes somehow- and I've given up on fighting it too much. Without fail, no matter how tiredly I drag my ass through the day, I wake up at night and want to fall asleep around morning. Then it's kid's school and various other things that intrude. Really I need to adapt an artist's hours and stop being a round leg in a square hole.
I probably average about 5 hours or so. Lots of nights it's less of course.
I don't have any particular night time strain to recommend though some of the ones I smoke including Malawi, do help- but again I still lean towards sleeping early in the morning. That's when sleepiness hits me hard.
Looking forward to your insomnia research. Not sure if I missed some already. Tried to catch up in your journal last night but it seems I blinked and fell 12 or 15 pages behind all of a sudden.

:laughtwo: I do sometimes preside over a journal that acts like a foot race. Lol!

Can you sprout the seed right in the perlite Tead? Tell me it's this easy. :laughtwo:

What... you have some suspicion that your eyes lie to you?

I think it works in a hot environment. Your mileage may vary.
I've employed 3 different methods with my latest batch of seeds.... peat pucks, cup of water, and the perlite. Only the perlite has shown any progress so far.
