Tead's Indoor-ish, Winter, Hempy, OGK, SOG

I stand corrected then. I was having a hard time with the idea of a dedicated stoner living in cajun country that had no experience in concentrates. :laughtwo: It didn't seem possible.

I have a good grinder and I can't make myself use it. I take such tiny hits anyway that I find it easier to pull it off a tiny bit at a time right into the pipe or bowl. With a grinder I have this vision of lost trichomes stuck to the blades. I'm stingy with my trichomes.

Speaking of which, where is that bong???

The plus side of using a grinder is that when you do lose the trichomes on it and it gets caked up you can always make qwiso hash that way! Waste not want not lol. Thats what I do atleast with my grinder lol. If anything think of it as a deposit rather then a waste.

I learned lessons... the hard way... perhaps the best way.
And yes.... cheese cloth was exactly one of those lessons.

Just sampled. Tasted horrible as expected. Was quite effective tho. My "yard stick" buddy showed up just as it was ready. Quite effective.
Im no pro at making qwiso hash but I have made alot and i have had my fair share of crap batches and i find that there are a few key things to watch out for when making qwiso. If I could offer any advice it would be as follows, i like to keep wash times short and I know that is the obvious part however what wasn't obvious to me in the beginning was that when you are washing the product you need to look and see if the liquid is yellow, if it has a slight tint of green fine but you want it yellow for the most part cause if its super green ya you got all the thc but you also picked up alot of chlorophyll and that right there makes it harsh as crap. My next bit of advice would be use cheese cloth preferably folded a few times to insure that no solids go through, i fold mine so the liquid has to go through 4layers of cheese cloth and barely any solids get through i can barely tell lol. In this picture you will see my qwiso before its scraped up but it should give you a idea of how the liquid should look cause its the same shade of yellow

I know you aren't a noob with this stuff but if I can help you i want to cause i know the struggle i went through to be able to make good qwiso and it was a harsh road lol.

I took a picture of the cheese cloth i get at wally fart (i know the label doesn't say cheese cloth but it's the same thing) and then i took a picture of how i use it although i do an initial strain through one of the silk screen coffee filter things just to keep the big stuff out which i think is important because it shortens the time my alcohol is in contact with the bud/trim so less chlorophyll gets extracted but after that i put the cheese cloth on the mason jar and strain that into my pyrex dish.

I have only made qwiso once and am very ignorant about most extracts. Does it always smell like iso when it's finished? In my case I ran an ounce or two of questionable bud through, then let the stuff sit to evaporate. I never tried it because I figured it wasn't sativa enough for me. It ended up sitting in an open jar for several months on a shelf. Still smelled like iso. I ended up warming it up a little in a double boiler along with a bunch of bubble hash- then mixed it all together when everything was nice and gooey- just to make something more solid and useable- and traded it all away. It smelled a little less harsh when it cooled down. I'm not sure what it was like to smoke but my friends seemed happy with it and said it was very strong.
Is there a way to make qwiso that smells/is nice- or is this just the nature of the beast?

Ive made qwiso quite a few times and it always smelled like iso when done except these last 2 times when i found 99% iso. No smell but i still dont care much for the taste. Really kicks you in the head tho. If you really make sure everything is as cold as you can get it and do a really quick first wash its not too bad. The littlest bit of chlorophyll in there makes it so harsh. Think this time im either gonna buy bubble bags or try it with everclear. Ive heard thats better on the palate.

Yeah I was wondering if it was the iso I used. I can only find 90% here. No Everclear either. A little still for making my own alcohol is on the wish list.

Found the 99% at walgreens. They only have the 16oz bottles so i had to buy a few but it really makes a difference. You can get away with a shorter wash and the evap time is way less. It used to take days with the lower %s but this last time an 8x12 pyrex dish with 1/2 inch of liquid in it took about 12 hrs to evap with a fan blowing over it.

Sounds to me like you two werent purging it in the oven after you double boiled it. I throw mine in the oven at 170F-190F for 10-25 mins to ensure the isopropyl alcohol is completely evaporated and i have no isopropyl smell in mine. I know it seems like its done after the double boiling but if you stick it in the oven and check on it every so often you will notice little bubbles forming that's the last bit of the alcohol. It's kinda like making bho in some ways. After purging in the oven smell it and if you get even the slightest hint of alcohol (even if your not 100% positive the alcohol is gone) put it back in til you don't smell it. Ya its a bit of extra work but its worth it trust me.

I use 91% isopropyl alcohol don't go any lower as the extra water extracts more chlorophyll!

Also its important to use the least amount of alcohol you can. When i make mine i only fill it up about a quarter inch to half inch above the material.

I also don't have a vaporizer- but from what I read, cannabis starts to evaporate at around 160C. That's what kept me from doing anything like sticking it in the oven. I wasn't sure if I would vape it all away.

EDIT- ok I looked up the conversion to fahrenheit and 160C is 320F- so no worries there.

Alright so i had to go convert some numbers because I don't know Celsius but 170F is 76.667 Celsius and thc vaporizes at around 160 Celsius which is 320F so the purging temp i use is far below the temperature at which you start losing the good stuff.

Basically you would purge at 76.667C or whatever temp you can get close to that, like i said i don't know Celsius lol

Yep we got our math in order and posted/edited at the same time. Tead will have some reading to wade through when he get's back from his 4am jog. Myself, I think I'm going to get a few minutes sleep. Thanks for the chat and the info!

Ya he will lol. Hey no problem that is what this site is about sharing the knowledge lol. Ya sorry didnt mean to keep ya up catch you later lol. And to tead, sorry for rambling in your journal lol in my defense it is on topic atleast lol.

Yeah Tead is a stickler for staying on topic I've noticed. As for the sleep- no worries- it's not natural for me to sleep at night, and I love to stay up all night any chance I can get. Sleeping this early is just something that society forces upon me, in the form of a horrible torture known as 'having to get up early in the morning'. Eek.
Goodnight.
