Tead's Indoor-ish, Winter, Hempy, OGK, SOG

Oh... whaddayaknow.... I have a grow thread.

Man... I got a fairly large silicon bong. So damn phallic. It took me a while to get over it. If one were to ponder the config... one always hold the flame to the 'balls'.... I leave that to the gentle reader to interpret as the thought just makes me squirm a bit.

We fell right between the rain bands. The weather was cooler tho a bit windy. Not much rain at all. It can be whacky how the scenario plays outs. We got lucky. I got a good bit of work done it the cooler weather and it was a real bonanza for me.

Pics ehhh..... I think I got one or two hangin round.

The little ones. Note some old Osmo girls in the older style pots. Had to kick one or two for fun.

The older crowd.

I re-introduced Blue Dream into my grow. I've been having great luck with it now that I'm not growing in such an exposed space. Previously they were spider mite central. Now they're working out great in a fully enclosed grow space.
Here are some shots from her. She's a touch on the smaller side, but I slid her into bloom when she was small just to see what kind of bug she might attract.

Just a hairy girl that made me smile.

Oh.... I keep getting broken branches on my Jack H's. Buds just bend them down and the breaks. It seems somewhat less flexible than my other strains.

Oh man hes still alive lol how ya been doing bud. The garden looks to be firing off on all cylinders great job brother. That bluedream looks pretty tastey that is one of my favorite strains I love the bluedream. An buds so heavey they bend and snap branches what a lovely horrible problem to have :laugh:. Unless it's from jus to weak of stems then that's no good but urs look pretty solid so I say nice work lol. But yea brother man what u been up2 lately anything new been added to the garden? Oh i almost forgot I now got 2 qb lights over a full highbrix garden and I got a Mandarin Cookies clone from bobrown14 mailed to me an she survived and is thriving now. An man is she a fast grower she over took every1 lol so I gave her her own 10gallon tote of highbrix soil to sit in an well that didnt really slow her down like at all it actually made that lil problem slightly worse cause now she is really taking off hahaha. Ehh growers problems am I right. But soon I hope to be all highbrix and all QB lights like u got brother those beauties sure put out some light am I right? Sometimes I need sunglasses jus to go in my tent n work with the girls like for training times an feedings. If lights are on the glasses are out Haha. But yea glad to see ur still alive an kickn n the garden doin good brother congrats n gud luck on it continuing for you.

Hey Tead, maybe sometime you could take a pic or two of how you’ve got your lights set up and how far they are? How do you like the lights?
You probably covered that stuff already back when I was blind(er).
I got a couple of those Kitty boards recently too, but haven’t really had time to observe how they’re working. Seems like the bud under them is still developing normally and it’s sort of a non-event so far.

Hey brother if ur talking about the quantum board lights I got 2 of them an will be definitely getting more lol. The buds get so dam dense and massive amounts of frost. These suckers develop some major triches u wont be disappointed with them for sure.

What model boards are you using? I intend to be heading the same way Tead went in that I'll soon have a good sized room and I will need new lights. I have 3 COB fixtures now, but I want to get some QBs to fill out the remaining space and maybe do accent lighting with my COBs. I have 3 - 480w drivers that output 2100 dimmable that I'd like to somehow use with the QBs if that's possible. I think if I find the right boards, I can get away with getting the boards only.

Oh shit u are asking the wrong person lol. I know I got the 260 watt. AN My bad in an earlier post I think I said it was the 350w but no it's the 260 watt QB 304 one. And then I also got one of the 135watters and man these babys work wonders lol. But yea man gud luck with ur setup ur doing man.

Dammit... now I gotta go look in on your world.
I remember visiting Dr. Doobs place and witnessing with my own eyes the output of the QBs before I had any of my own. I was just blown away by their brightness. Much like the sun.... don't be lookin directly into them. I can certainly understand the need for shades. Plus, you know.... officially I'm sure the eye doc would tell you to wear eye protection.

Oh my! Been to see Miss Kitty have you?!?!
Your "non-event" is using less power, generating more light, and producing less heat. My kinda "non-event".
Hell... heat might actually be an issue for you these days. I hear tell the mercury is rising these days in your swamplands.

Trying to match a board to a driver would seem problematic. What model drivers are you currently using?

Since we're all chatting lights, I went back and checked out my original order from Miss Kitty.

"800led plus Fotop-600H-2 in 3000k
include 2pcs 800 plus pcb ( Pcb size: 900*184*2.0mm, 129-372w, 48v, 3000- 7500mA, 800pcs Samsung 561c s6 leds), 1pcs MW HLG-600H-48B driver, 1pcs dimmer switch, 1pcs timer 2pcs 940*195*10mm Heat sink, 2pcs plug wires, 2sets hanging rope, fast connectors and wires."

I'm using these drivers,

Mean Well HLG-480H-C2100B

I spent $140 on each, so if at all possible, I'd really like to use them. Otherwise maybe I could probably break apart my 3 fixtures and run the 18 COBs around the circumference of the room and only put one new QB in the middle. FYI, I'm looking to build out a 9' x 9' room and intend to grow 9 plants therein. Also, to conserve on weight of 9 plants, I will be ditching hydro and growing in Faux Mix soil.

Oh I see some one has been over to farsides journal or do u got ur own faux mix blend?

Yep, it'll be Farside's blend. Who could say no to reusable high brix for cheap? I already have all the nutrient salts to amend, I just need to also get a few more amendments to recharge the soil and I should be gtg, using less water, no reservoir weight on the floor, only tradeoff I expect is less weight yield per plant and I'll probably get hit with bugs for the first time after years of being lucky. The room will be more or less sealed. I can filter the inlets if I feel the need, but as of now I don't, but that's hydro, so might be different.

Hey Sky, I can help you with matching panels to drivers, etc. I'm pretty sure you can talk directly to Kitty and order boards alone, or simply break up your COBs like you suggested and get a kit from Meijiu.

Panels work just like COBs. They run at a nominal voltage and you run them at the amperage that the driver supplies. Your 2100ma drivers are a bit hot for boards, but you can run them in parallel for lower amperage.

Study some of those numbers that Farside threw out. The panels typically run at 48 volts and lower.

:Namaste:

It's actually pretty simple.

In order to not waste money, I'm near certain I'll want to use my COBs around the edge and put a new panel over the center. So maybe a 5x5 footprint for the center and I could hook it all up like a disco tech?

Overall, I've not been happy with the output of my efforts. I really feel I'm only 1/2 way there.
I'm switching gears.
I'm gonna start by kicking the tires on a soiless peat/perl mix with lime added. (Thanks @farside05 !)
I'm gonna put that mix in a fabric bag attached to an OctoPot knockoff I'm making.
Seems less work, and I sure hope to see better output.

Consult @Weaselcracker as he grows in peat with hydro nutes so he'll have some wisdom for us to glean from. He tried my rockwool targets on his peat plants and stressed them out and had to augment his feed, and I assume as many as several times as finding the right range takes some trial and error. Once I get into the dirt, I'll definitely be looking for the ideal nute ranges. If the Megacrop doesn't work out for the Faux mix, I can advise what complexes to get for making custom solutions like the various drenches the cool kids use. The BOM for materials for hydro is just shy of $200, but it would be around half that to get a few useful complexes, actually about 3 or 4 is all that's needed.

Mega Crop and Faux Mix play very well together. This is my feed chart:

The Pro Tekt and Cal Mag are optional. InTheShed uses just the Mega Crop with his Pro Mix. I'm a believer in silica. It one of the few additives I do believe in, so it's included in my blend.

some wisdom for us
stressed... out

Hmmm yes wisdom, feels a little far away right now young grasshoppers. :hmmmm: Figuring out Hydro Buddy has been like opening up a can of worms for me. My plants have been looking so purple and yellow if the police saw those girls they’d arrest me on the spot. What could I say- ‘bitches just wouldn’t listen, wouldn’t cooperate’? ‘Skybound told me to do it’? It’s going to take me a while to get to the end of the whole delicious can at the rate I’m going. But- whatever feeding routine you’re using in perlite now might transfer over to peat moss no problem. I did sort of ok with the Botanicare ml/gallon schedule for years. Now that I’m trying to screw around with things to make it more perfect, they’re complaining. Don’t know whats good for them..

I looked into the Hydro Buddy program. It's not the most intuitive thing to use but eventually I figured it out. I started sourcing the salts needed to make what I wanted and it was going to cost a substantial amount, although I'd have a ton of fertilizer when I was done. Just didn't make sense for me and my little grow tent. If I had a bigger space, growing more plants, maybe it would.

If a problem comes up, I just want to be able to quantify what’s in my bottles, and juggle them accordingly with HB, to make my plants happy. It seems like it should be pretty simple. I only use a few bottles.
The bottled nutrient industry for pot is more geared towards selling magical potions than fertilizer, which is not very helpful if you want to DIY.

Oh gawd no... but thanks tons. Digging up the cauldron and creating a witch's brew seems way too much work. I think I kick the tires on everything else before I start with my own potions.

Dat's right on time baby!!!! Thanks tons!
You feed numbers are slightly lower than my pure perlite feeding routine. I've been starting the newbies out at 5g/gal and working them up to 12g/gal.

We share a mind. Too bad we're too far apart to share a bowl!
