Tead's Indoor-ish, Winter, Hempy, OGK, SOG

With the recent publication of the climate change report, Tead and his crew are starting to look around the nation for a new hooch. Finding places that meet our needs and provide a temperature that we can live in after having our blood thinned down here has proven to be a tough wrinkle in the planning process. Tead may have to suck it up and freeze his ass off for a few years as the personal heating system adjusts.

I haven't read the new climate report. The last one was pretty bad news for New Orleans.

For a warm temperature state, I recommend the bottom half of New Mexico, but most of the culture happens in the cold north of New Mexico. Plus desert rivers suck.

If you are going to cold weather along the Mississippi, I recommend my town and neighborhood. A new brew pub opened up 4 blocks away this weekend. Still have riverboats and river rat neighborhoods. One of the most vibrant music scenes in the USA. Lots of festivals and gatherings by german, greek, scottish, mexican, etc. Midwestern politeness. Lots of community theater (LOTS.) Nationally ranked improv troupe. Monthly Drag shows and burlesque shows. Roller derby. Baseball. Hockey. Nudist colony. Pelicans. Eagles. Live bands playing in bars in the grocery stores. Mostly liberal politics. Something for everyone. - - the house across the street just listed for $79,900.

Sounds like home. We'll except for the drag shows, pelicans, and liberal politics.

The 'common wisdon' for plants in general is to take clones from the tips of low branches. Maybe that is to get a clone that will root easy.

Personally, I've found I get more vigorous cannabis clones by selecting the growing tip of the plant (the apical meristem) during a vegetative growth spurt. I've settled into a pattern of takng my clones the day I look at the plant and say "Whoa. It's growing big. I better clone it and move it into flower."

Ya know... I'm just not so much of a Sativa grower. Most of my ladies are heavily Indica leaning. I find Indicas really tend to have a big fat top center spike. One can clip it, but imho... it's better to keep the spike on the top rather than try to re-focus that energy to the other arms. When one considers that this idea really just follows that natural flow of the plant rather than pushing it to do something else, it becomes that much more attractive to keep the top rather than cloning them off. They sure do make nice clones tho!

If you move, Tead, choose a legal state, but not one that is too far North. There are challenges to having to grow indoors all the time, whether it is climate, or the neighborhood you live in.

Now, AK is legal, but by law, we are required to keep our grows concealed to prevent some lazy-assed drug dealers from walking off with the crop. It also helps to have your own plot of land away from the city. Still, if one wants a perpetual grow, indoors is the only way to go here, mostly to keep them within the ideal temps.

We're really overwhelmed by the process. So much so that we may have to form some sort of checklist or other formal process to get a handle on it all. I mean, when your pallet is limitless, choosing can be tough.
Hadn't even considered AK. Been there.... chased out by mosquitoes. Actually... no.... five bazillion of them. Sheesh! Somewhere in that state, there lies a bug free zone... but nowhere I been to. It's still on the open pallet, but I'm not seeing it's popularity pop lately.

One vote for AK love from AKG registered!

I could use all those old coats I have from when I was an Oregonian. On the other hand, a thin blooded Y'at might need something a touch warmer.

It only takes about a year going through the seasons to get acclimated to the climate. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Anchorage (in the city) has almost no mosquitoes. Not enough standing water to support them.

So, there are pros and cons to living anywhere. You have to decide where you want to live and what you will put up within the legal states.

I've been using that Captin Jacks for years... Good shit. Last for like 3 weeks. My outdoor girls get sprayed around the 1st of Sept. and as a rule, I harvest end of Sept. Good stuff... GL and Keepem Green

It's gonna be rough if we move someplace cold. This morning, the front room was around 65f. I put on a thick sweatshirt and moved on with life. My cat stood in front of the heater and mewed at it until I turned it on, then curled up on the floor in front of it.
Sheesh.

I'm gonna give it a whirl for a while. My outdoor girls have been free of caterpillars since the first spray. I'm still gonna give them a shot of neem in the root zone on occasion as yet another preventative layer, but yeah.... I think Cap'n Jacks will be a standard bit from now on.

I find it hard to believe that you could pry yourself from the grips of the NOLA monster. Just doesn't seem possible.

Indeed. It seems a very daunting thing for us to get our heads around.
It will hurt, but I see no reason to stay and deal with the challenges that a city below sea level will present in a world of rising seas. Further, I notice that many locals don't seem to realize that the Miss is basically sea water (in function, not content) at our area and that 1" of sea level rise equates to 1" of Miss rise. While I'm unaware of how much weight all those levies can hold, I wonder how much weight 1" of water across the span of the Miss will put on those levies. While it may be possible to provide some further protection to stretch things out, all of it seems to bode poorly for our historic city.
Of course, the city has crashed hard after Katrina. No real businesses will invest in a city with such challenges. All the oil industry and support services pulled up stakes and headed to Houston. Shipping at our port has suffered as well. The flow of imported humans has slowed. Other than the tourist industry, things have really tanked hard. There's a good bit of unused old houses across the city... which of course leads to lots of blighted properties.

The party has come to an end, and Tead doesn't want to be the dude that hits the lights on his way out.

A little look into Tead's overcast outdoor garden....

And a close look at the top of an Ox....
The temps have been downish, but not enough to trigger the red again.

My twin turned out to be another seed, not a twin. Gotta get these babies in the ground today. Hell... that toothpick might have roots.

You realize that none of us grow within limits that would be considered legal in most "legal" states? No matter where we relocate we'll be forced to be underground, until sanity prevails and we free cannabis. That may or may not happen in our lifetime.

Find a tolerable weather area with a decent cost of living and enticing real estate possibilities.

You already know my wish. :cheesygrinsmiley:

That Ox is a stunning plant. You know my preference for sativas. Quite frankly, although I understand the attraction to indicas it's something my system smiles at. :laughtwo: They don't work all that well for me and my energy levels. The daughter is an indica babe, learning more and more to appreciate euphoria.

All those years I associated getting high with couch lock...... Sure makes me appreciate the difference I've chosen, once I knew better. It's so fascinating to me how differently cannabis effects everyone.

Where was I going with that? Oh yes..... I'm growing a Jamaican that turns out to have the characteristics that Neiko got from one of his seeds from the same plant. He had it tested and it came back with an interesting terpene profile and with twice the CBD content as THC. It appears to be sativa in structure. If it turns out to be as wonderful as I suspect, some will find its way to your bowl. It may change your mind about sativas.

Neiko tells me it's genetics. It's not been bred out to favor THC, so it's naturally balanced in major cannabinoids, and this is what the plant would do in the wild. It tickles me to know I have what appears to be a pure line that may be a perfect match to me. I won't have to go looking for expensive seeds. That ticket to Jamaica turned out to have far-reaching benefits.

I've been wandering around talking up a storm, but I haven't had breakfast yet. The stomach grumbles. :laughtwo: Good to see you this morning. :hugs:

It's not really so much a preference for indica, I actually appreciate both branches of the family tree fairly equally on their own. I've become quite enamored over the years with the green gumbo mix of the two branches. It's more a matter of what seems to grow well in the swamps.

On the subject of personal cannabis effects... I recently ran into someone that became angry after smoking MJ. Never seen that before. Found it interesting, but was unable to broach the subject with the angry human. They were kinda unhappy all around, so I guess they were bottling a bunch up that seemed to escape after smoking. Not smoking with that human again of course.

Let's chat about weather for a moment.
In the swamplands, you might want to avoid getting your plants wet. Every morning we come pretty close to the dew point. When we get too close to the dew point, the outdoor plants get a thick coating of water over their entire surface.
Sometimes, I like to drag the plants inside to avoid the dew all over them. Of course, guessing when the dew will come can be an art. If one checks the local weather data, one can take much better guesses at when the dew will descend.

WeatherData.jpg

My local weather data from yesterday. Note the 3 occasions where the dew point (dark green) nears the temperature (red). These are the times when I will see dew on the plants.
For those unaware... the 'dew point' is the temperature where dew will form.
I can pretty much guess when I'll want to drag the plants in for the night. Probably Wed, Thurs, and Sat.
Kinda handy for prediction purposes.

A little shout out to my friends at Weather Underground (Ring a bell? You're old!). Been luvin them for years now.

I don't think I have ever gotten ahold of either "pure" Indica or "pure" Sativa seeds, altho Nirvana's mystery seeds I got as freebies came pretty close to a pure Sativa, guessing simply by the width of the leaves and gangly growth pattern of the females. They were a real pain in the A** to grow, however. Forever buggy, practically impossible to keep under control, and a really long flowering time.

All my hybrids lean towards Sativa, or are close to 50/50, not by choice, but what I could get my hands on.

I saw a documentary on a cable channel last night about the drug trade. It seems to me that the only distinction that was made strain-wise was whether the crop was Indica or Sativa. None of this fussing over individual strain.

I wonder if we waste too much space and time trying to get the perfect strain, keeping our harvests separated by named strain, etc. We can get obsessed over this strain over that one, esp if their ancestries are close.

I'm guilty of being addicted to strains. I think it's a natural thing for a long time grower/smoker. We all just settle into what we like/what works for us. We stretch around over time trying new things that sometimes get incorporated... but generally rotate around various genetics.
One gets fancy over time and starts walking up and down their favorite lineage. I'm currently jonesing for some ChemDawg.
Experience can play into it all as well. I like the PC smoke, but kinda hate the grow, so I might spin those genetics again.

Only three kinds of weed.... Bad weed,,,good weed,,, and better weed................ What is a name?????????? I really don't think someone could say that's the same Black Africa Trip Weed I use to grow back then. I'm not saying these breeders don't have a clue what they are doing,,, but how wood one know he has the 'Real Deal' of anything ? Just my senseless babblings...........

I had a couple friends in college that baffled me, and knowing them set the stage for my cannabis experience with Dale. We would gather as a group and get high. She would encourage her partner to enjoy the gathering, and then, after a couple hits she would begin to berate him for needing cannabis. God is was uncomfortable. After the second occurance of this curious behavior I stopped smoking with them entirely.

I lived with them for a month once when between apartments. It got touchy because she took offense that I didn't share my small amount with them, but chose to smoke alone in the bathroom. No way was I going to let that woman near me when I was enjoying a buzz. :laughtwo:

Interestingly, their adult daughter now lives in the house owned by my best friend. Every day, on her way home from work, the daughter stops at her father's home and they catch a buzz together. My best friend sees cannabis as a crutch for this young woman. It's an ongoing education with my extended, chosen family, who live in a legal state, by the way.

It's hard to be best friends with SweetSue and not have to periodically listen to my lessons on cannabis shame and how misplaced that attitude is. :laughtwo: Eventually she'll understand. She's come far enough that she now calls me when she finds someone with a new cancer diagnosis. Progress. I call that progress.

How did that experience benefit Dale? I made it a point at the beginning to make no judgements about our pot consumption (I have a hard time referring to that stuff as "cannabis"). With the exception of my eight years of madness when I made us stop, I followed that directive. It kinda led me here.

I'd never scrutinized a weather report like that Tead, but then I don't have to in my climate and location. When I attempt an outdoor grow though I'll remember this.

I found the experience quite untolerable almost instantly. Just a side character in Tead's world... but still.

I was spot on with my morning weather dew prediction today. Just a touch of dew formed late in the dark hours. I may take them indoors tonight... I'll re-check the graph.

The girlies in the morning light....

Some more red kicking in... but not much. I'll need some significantly chillier temps. Might be in the 60s/50s next week... but dunno if that will be enough. Plenty of copies of her in the veg area, so I should get one thru some cooler temps.
