Tead's Indoor-ish, Winter, Hempy, OGK, SOG

A quick shot before I head out. Oh look, a radish breakfast for Tead!

That explains why my clones look so puny compared with their seed-grown mothers. I get smaller leaves and weaker stems from the AK 48 clones, even tho the strain is a vigorous grower. I also have noticed that each generation of clones (clones of clones) is less vigorous than the previous generation.

I'm only getting the bigger nugs from the seed-grown. The clones give me lots of small buds, but even when I prune the ladies, the top flowers aren't nearly as large.

I'm not noticing this in my garden at all. My Carnival is in its 6th clone run (clone of a clone, of a clone...) and they keep getting stronger. I'm seeing the same thing with the CBD Critical Cures. No change at all in vigor and production. There are some who've kept a line alive through twenty years of cloning, with no apparent loss in vigor.

I'm not suggesting you're an inferior cultivator, just curious as to what could be causing this in your garden. Let's keep in mind that I'm still wet behind the ears, and have but three years experience at this game we love so much. :battingeyelashes:

Admittedly.... way admittedly, Tead has a reading problem. Sometimes he just plain misses shit. This, I missed. Got the rest of it, but missed that sentence.

So sorry AKG.

Had I really read it, I would have told you of the OGK clone line I've been running for MANY years. Generations upon generations. All unchanged. Hell... the "New" UD1 line is over a year old I think.
So I might fall on the other side of the clone genetics degradation discussion.

Thanks for pointing to that Sue!

The F1 vigor Con was referring to, is that the first generation of a cross pollination generally has extra vigor. When you start back crossing and open pollinating the strain, it will start to lose vigor over generations.

Clones typically should retain the vigor of the seed grown mother. Sometimes there can be issues that degrade it however. My purple Malawi line for example, has lost a lot of the vigor because I didn't take as good of cuttings as I should have once or twice and the last time it started flowering and I forced it to reveg twice. I'm now growing that plant out and found one growing tip with all 5 bladed leaves. I just cloned that tip today. Hopefully it will grow out more stable than the last couple of cuts have been. To me the cut is precious enough to try and save it. Otherwise I'd just ditch it and pop a new one.

Anyone have any experience with Captain Jacks?
I'm hoping to get some caterpillar killing action out of it.

Just used it on house plants that I brought indoors. I had been treating them for about 3 weeks with insecticidal soap and a neem spray. I ground some mosquito dunks to treat the soil for the fungus gnat larvae.

The first morning inside I noticed live gnats and a thrips. One shot ... it worked.

But that wasn't a caterpillar.

The 'common wisdon' for plants in general is to take clones from the tips of low branches. Maybe that is to get a clone that will root easy.

Personally, I've found I get more vigorous cannabis clones by selecting the growing tip of the plant (the apical meristem) during a vegetative growth spurt. I've settled into a pattern of takng my clones the day I look at the plant and say "Whoa. It's growing big. I better clone it and move it into flower."

0.5% Spinosad - I've never used it, but it's considered effective against caterpilars. Also considered organic. Some bacteria discovered in an abandoned sugar mill or rum distillery in the Carribean when we were in our 20s.

I've never used Spinosad before. Read all about it of course... just never had an opportunity. Saw it on the shelf and wanted to remove one of my spray/mix complications and buy it all in one bottle that hits all the marks.
I've been using Neem for the bugs and BT for the caterpillars. Works, but sprays are a dangerous thing in my world and if I can eliminate one I cut my chances of bad things happening.

Man.... my babies are seriously bug free. It just boggles my mind. The outdoor hempies with all the perlite just seem to be cutting the populations to nothing. Previous outdoor dirt grows were always bug central with leaf miners on all the leaves and many other visitors.
Now, I got nuthin but some caterpillars... and not many of those.

BrixNewb and his sweetie showed up yesterday with a pup and few family members in tow (ish). Burgers and bowls were enjoyed by most, and the friendly banter in Tead's back yard is always welcome. My little terrier spent hours teaching all the visitors how to throw a ball.

BN brought a touch of his UD. Sooooo good. Getting tired of seeing everyone do justice to the UDs while mine suffer along in the sauna. Meh.... ya do whatcha can. Sent him home with an Ox cutting... I'm sure he'll insult with that one too! It'll be fun to see if he can keep her cool enough to get the purple to really come out.

Might have a nice quiet gardening day. Watering on tap. Some cloning. Some seedlings and clones need to find pots. Mondays kinda work in my world.

OH! Did you see what the Saints did to the Bucs last night? It was sure a bad night in NOLA for the Bucs. I recorded the game and swore my guests to silence... two of whom had actually come directly from the Saints game to my backyard. I did notice a smooth smile come over my guest's face when he heard my words of warning... but I was unfamiliar with this guest and only guessed that the Saints had won... tho as the night wore on and familiarity rose, I was much surer of my guess. Fun... a little side entertainment for Tead.
Geaux Saints!

Hey, hey, hey! Yesterday was a regular old shindig down at your place man! I think the stars aligned just right and the right people were put in place for things to be perfect! I thought the parental units were just going to swing by and pick up my dog, but they stayed a few hours having a good old time. That was good to see, around my parts they don't get out and socialize too much. The pup had a good old time too! Right at home after the investigating was done and your pupper was the perfect host, I know my doggo appreciated that.

Good to hear about the UD. I actually have a few beans of it left and will get around to popping them sooner or later and growing from seed. I think you have a good window right now where the bloom girls will do nicely if the weather holds out. They are sure looking sweet right now. I am hoping the outdoors is a permanent thing for you. I will see what I can do with the Ox, I am sure I will muck it up somehow but the kit will save my ass. Time will tell. Still envious of your Ox, that girl was sexy!

Until next time!

I think the stars aligned just right and the right people were put in place for things to be perfect!

A wise Tead tries to boost the odds for those alignments by keeping those kinda folks in his circle. One of these days we'll line up a formal backyard affair and you'll get to meet the rest of the gang. If I could just export them all to an island populated by coconut breasted native girls..... yes.... wouldn't that be something.

Bobcat?!? Snow?!?
What are these things you speak of?
I thought a bobcat was a piece of construction equipment and that snow had to do with cocaine.
I'm not sure of those other versions you reference... but a quick glance the the thermometer at 3am shows 75f. I suspect the two issues are connected.

With the recent publication of the climate change report, Tead and his crew are starting to look around the nation for a new hooch. Finding places that meet our needs and provide a temperature that we can live in after having our blood thinned down here has proven to be a tough wrinkle in the planning process. Tead may have to suck it up and freeze his ass off for a few years as the personal heating system adjusts.

If you move, Tead, choose a legal state, but not one that is too far North. There are challenges to having to grow indoors all the time, whether it is climate, or the neighborhood you live in.

Now, AK is legal, but by law, we are required to keep our grows concealed to prevent some lazy-assed drug dealers from walking off with the crop. It also helps to have your own plot of land away from the city. Still, if one wants a perpetual grow, indoors is the only way to go here, mostly to keep them within the ideal temps.
