Tead's Indoor-ish, Winter, Hempy, OGK, SOG

Want to know something funny? That was exactly the image that came to mind as I watched the water flow out. :laughtwo: I like you!

GH 3 part nutes for now. At some point, I would like to do a side by side comparison with the GH liquid and dry formulations. My curious mind is always looking for experiments.

The Osmocote Plus makes for an almost mindless grow. It's worth exploring. I'll probably switch completely to the Grow Better nutes in the end. Not having to pH adjust is a dream come true for a lazy gardener. :laughtwo: The plants I have growing in the osmo are holding up amazingly well.

Shut the front door!!!! You mean a slow release fertilizer will work in a hempy and you don't have to do anything? Whoa!

Yes, but to be honest, I'm seeing dramatically improved results with the Grow Better nutes, which is why I'm shifting the hempies in that direction. The Carnival I'm growing with the Grow Better line is arguably the finest Carnival I've grown so far.

Sue, can you give a link to the Grow Better nutes so I can check it out? I tried a search but I can't find them - Different companies come up that aren't nutrient lines.

Oh look... you're writing your own responses!
Fun.

Indeed... you can. Tead finds it attractive for several reasons but it's not for all.
There is only one rule around this place.... Tead's lazy. Really lazy. The instant appeal of avoiding the nutrient dance in a garden with 20-30 individuals at different stages is obvious. A liquid regime is gonna have me doing 6-8 different nute mixes. ugh. The slow release regime is especially attractive in a SOG configuration where you set up a stream of plants feeding into the grow machine.
One can augment a time release regime with liquid if one wants... maybe start with a base load of Osmo and nute them up with liquid nutes to whatever level you want.

Seems like you've made a little discovery here. Any creative ideas floating around in your headbone regarding the Osmo regime?

Lots of ideas! My latest is to move one of my recently popped seeds into a mini hempy made from a solo cup. This seems like such a great method that I want to try getting the seedlings off to a good start in a smaller pot. Then, I can pot up to the final hempy bucket. It's been done before by others, but I want to see how it works in my environment. My mini clones that were popped in a small dish of perlite and water sure are happy.

Remember... the smaller the container, the more frequent you'll need to water it. A solo cup needs 2 per day. 2Ls/2days. 6Ls/4days. 5gal/forever.

Here... an OGK grown hempy in a 6L pot with 15g of Osmocote+. It's getting the scissors today.

I'm still trying to work out the 6L feeding rates. 15g seems low.

So if I'm using a 12L mop bucket, which is approx 3 gallons, it could go as long as a week without watering?

Shoulda said more....

So, stick your finger in the top of the hempy bucket after you water it. Dig down an inch or two... careful of the roots. Check out the moisture level. Now, do that for the time period between waterings.... I think you'll be shocked.
Another interesting experiment.... inject a few drops of food coloring thru the hempy hole into the res. Again... I suspect you have some surprises in your future.

Fascinating stuff. Can't wait to learn more about growing in a hempy. Clearly, it works.....your buds are looking great!

Another experiment I've decided to try with a bucket is to make a larger hole for quick drainage, but cover it with screen from the inside and attach it with silicone caulk. JoJo made a really interesting bucket design that included a drain to catch runoff to water other plants. Might give that a whirl too.

JoJo!!!!
I hadn't seen that moniker in many moons.
God Bless.
The growing buddies... they come and go.

I tried such things. It seems to make logical sense.... but always just led to increased blockage in my world. Perhaps you can find a way to make it work. The plugged hole is one of the largest threats. I've even developed the habit of tipping my containers a bit before I put them back in the garden after I've watered them... this gives me a guarantee that the hole is not plugged as a little bit of water flows out.

Hmmm, now my mind is going to the idea of something like a bird guard for dryer vents. If there was a way to make it conform to the inside of the bucket and cover it with a fine screen, it could prevent the drain hole from getting clogged. Mulling this over with my coffee....

I've been checking out the UD strain in various places this morning. Con really did an awesome write up I'm going to use as a guide for identifying the various phenos.

Conradino23's Another Outdoor Grow With High Brix Soil - Air-Pots & SoCal Seed Stock

That was very helpful. Maybe by the time I'll harvest I'll have some idea of the pheno based on scent alone. I'm thinking I have a Chem pheno, but she needs to develop her perfume before I'm certain. I have a sweet cutting of her growing roots for the next run in better nutrients.

The house finches love the louvered bird guard on my neighbor's dryer vent. It gives them some place to land on the way to their nest

I tend to like to stay with the old KISS (keep it simple, stupid) concept... I like the bells and whistles, but generally don't do those dances.

Well it sure as hell isn't the sativa heavy pheno! Look at dem fat ass leaves. Kind of odd leaf serration.... kind of more squareish than usual. Hmmmmm.... I bet I know someone that will weigh in with an experienced opinion quite soon.
