Tead's Indoor-ish, Winter, Hempy, OGK, SOG

Hi Tead! :byebye: Sue has inspired me to give hempies a whirl. So I'm here learning all I can. Only on page 17 but I have my snack and am enjoying the read.

Man.... I hope those SSDCs pop for you... they're monsters. The UDs lack the plant and bud size that the SSDCs present, but they make up for it with smoke that will pound you into the couch.... I often have to put the UD down and back away.

Yes it's not a big yielder, depending on the pheno it's moderate to medium, but it definitely is a quality smoke. When I smoked one of the strongest phenos for the first time I got hammered. This bud has devastating effects when you go proverbial one toke over the line, so sometimes you have to buckle your belt. Grown right it doesn't create tolerance either and can be used to really reset your brain if you like that kind of smoke. Overall it's a balanced strain with both stimulating and few relaxing phenos in the middle of the spectrum. Sustains both high temps and high RH and can be pushed with nutes, but I don't advise it. Good luck, man :thumb::passitleft:

Let's do some photos first off. Busy day all around. 3 plants went down. Blue Dream, Critical+ 2.0, and OGK.

Check out the trichs on the OGK bud.... Yowsa!

Moved 2 plants from veg to bloom.... so -1 net for the bloom room.

Some free room, but I got larger containers about to invade, so I'm not worried.

Bugs seem gone. I checked with the microscope everywhere and found nothing alive. Still tho.... doing 1 more round of spray tomorrow.

PAGE 17 !?!?!?
Oh good gawd no. Don't submit yourself to such stupidity.
Here... take my hand and try walking down this path for a little while with me. Just a short stroll... and the path is easy. Sometimes there are treats at the end.
Hmmm.... that sounded a bit 'Devil-like'.... good.
Anyway.... let's do some growin baby! Where ya gonna start? Goin big or small? Gonna do liquid nutes or take the lazy path with me?

Welcome along LadyA! Good folk and fun banter can be found here. Jump right in whenever the world tickles you!

Ole Rooster was sitting on those steps not too long ago enjoying some of Tead;s treats......:thanks:

Thanks!
I can't believe I don't run into more souls traveling this way.
On the other hand, the folks I gravitate to would tend to avoid the typical attractions of our city... so it's probably not surprising at all really.
Tead keeps the welcome mat in place.... and there's always food and music somewhere!

*sticks hand out so we can take a stroll - 'cause I like you already* Treats are always good! Good food and chocolate will never be turned down, even if a little devilish.

My current grow has a Candida and Blue Dream CBD in 5 gal fabric pots filled with coco and topped with gnat nix (small growstones). I'm watering with nutes, so I'll keep the same food for hempies as I start out since I already have it. Thinking of picking up a couple of small plastic buckets today at the hardware store. Those are probably 3 gal size, I'm guessing here - my Blue Dream CBD clone in one and a Northern Lights from seed in the other.

How do you feel about using the small growstones instead of perlite?

IMO small grow stones won't wick the water as efficiently to all the tiny roots the way perlite will. The roots have more surface area with perlite.

Thanks, Sue! We needed to run out this morning to get parts for DH's trimmer. While there, we saw a huge bag of perlite and grabbed it. It is also much cheaper than a bag of grow stones. Win, win! Didn't get buckets though, because all they had was white in the smaller size. Not sure it would work well since too much light can leak in. I stuck my head in the bucket to look and check it out. I'm sure the people at the store wondered why this strange woman had a bucket on her head.

Tead's personal planetary anniversary occurred today. He's got choco cake, raspberries, and nilla ice cream lined up for later! A freakin Costco choco cake.... I'll give 1/2 away and still be chewin on it for a week. Shoulda grabbed a Doberge Cake from Gambinos.... but I wasn't in the area.

I dig your strain choices. You could go with a bigger bucket if you wanted to for those strains... they can both get big if you let them. Neither is a great choice in the 2L format.... but few things are. Oddly, I have both Blue Dream and Northern Lights going at the moment in my world. The BD is an ongoing strain while the NL is something I'm trying out.

Sue hit the growstone issue on the nose, but I see you've avoided it.... good. I'll bet you ran into the Vigoro 2CF bags? That's what I get down here. You can use the small MiracleGrow bags of perlite, but it's finer and clogs the drain hole a bit more and forms sludge at the bottom of the res.

Real grow buckets.... what a crazy idea! I used 3gal buckets for a long time. I've migrated to a thinner format to fit my garden better. Currently I'm in love with the 6" round PVC tubes using caps on the end. Whatever happens to be available can be used really. Check out circular office garbage cans.
Light into the res or medium is an issue. It can cause growth of bad stuff in the water. Pythium and other stuff. Remember.... we're still dealing with hydro here.... passive drain-to-waste hydro to be specific. While it avoids many of the problems associated with active hydro methods... it's never good to roll the dice baby!

We're gonna have to chat about a coco grow since you have experience in that area. I'm intrigued by other medium choices.

She got moved outdoors a couple weeks ago from 24/7 lighting. Current day length is 13:57. No screaming signs of bloom and some new growth, but mostly unchanged. Leaf taco and margin curling on top growth.... classic heat signs.

Happy Planetary Anniversary! :partyboy: Don't worry about the giant chocolate cake leftover. I can take care of that in no time!

Thanks! I had a feeling the 2L wasn't going to be a good fit - for many reasons. Seems very "tippy" and we don't ever buy anything that comes in 2L bottles. What size bucket do you think is the best? 3 or 5 gallon? The white buckets at the store were 2 gal paint buckets. Probably not a bad size if I wanted to keep the plants small, but it seems they need to be covered with tape or paint. At that rate, I might as well just buy the real black grow buckets. Proper! Proper, I say. LOL!

You got it. It was a great price too, even if I did have to deal with a lazy bones to get a bag that wasn't leaking everywhere. I kid you not, when he came around the corner to get one of the bags on the top shelf (which he had already been paged to do by a cashier) he asked about the bag with the holes all over it. Then, asked why didn't I want the small bags of Miracle grow next to it. :icon_roll Someone clearly didn't want to work. I don't have patience with that kind of stuff.

...it's never good to roll the dice baby!

But worth the trip to Vegas now! :)

Ask away!

Tead, I bestow upon you a look at my first hempy. Feel free to throw some of those rasberries and other goodies my way!

The mop bucket was 1/3 of the price of the black hydro bucket. Figured it was okay to sacrifice the cheapie for a test run.

Nice! Well done.
I usually go with a slightly larger drain hole.... somewhere in the 3/4" neighborhood... but that might just be because I'm impatient and want the water to flow out faster. Be sure to get the "Austin Powers peeing statue" kind of flow out that hole when watering and be super sure that it never plugs... use a toothpick to poke any stuck perlite.

The container size question is really answered by the size of plant you wish to grow. A 5gal bucket enables a root mass that can, in turn, enable a pretty massive plant. I use the above/below rule of thumb.... plant mass above the soil=plant mass below the soil. I'm not sure it's spot on, but I feel it's pretty close. Wish I had room for 5gal.

Nute regime?

Yes my friend you, like me ,are limited with our grow space... :laughtwo: I'm running a 2 x 4 x 7, actually two , one veg and the other flower. Of the beans I wanted to pop, well only one UD made it..... none of the SSDD made it. I still have a couple beans of that I'll try again. Since I'm very low on produce I'm contemplating running both tents in veg and then flip the two... I have 2 White Widows, 1 Pineapple Express, I LSD, and of course the Ultra Dog.... I've been advised to only run two ladies in each... we will see..... Later Tead.....Ole Rooster running some gardens this AM

@Rooster1, For the space, you can grow some pretty colossal bud machines if you keep to your current configuration, 1-veg, 1-bloom. Unless growing autos of course, but with photos, you can achieve a lot of root building and canopy building (above/below) in the 8-12 weeks your bloom space is being occupied. So every harvest you have a monster waiting to be tagged into the ring. I only have a little bit more space to bloom, but that's the rotation I'm striving for and even though things are bumpy for me, my harvest weights are none the less greatly increased overall.

Damn! Those SSDCs are huge.
Whenever I hit a bean that doesn't pop, I put it somewhere outside in my raised garden space. Sometimes they come up... you'd be surprised. If they pop, you can look at transplant or clone options.

One can look at a myriad of plant training or clipping techniques as well. Most of them are specifically designed to optimize growing space. Tead's just too damn lazy.
I really envision my SOG configuration as a machine with knobs you can twiddle with. Of course, all the knobs interact... thus forming the challenge. If you turn up the light knob, it effects the heat and nutrient knobs. If you twiddle with the PH knob, it twerks the nutrient knob. I try everything to avoid tweaking the heat knob, but it's connected to every other damn knob. It's a pretty complicated machine, but it works in my world and enables me to do things I wouldn't normally be able to do.

Be sure to get the "Austin Powers peeing statue"

Want to know something funny? That was exactly the image that came to mind as I watched the water flow out. :laughtwo: I like you!

GH 3 part nutes for now. At some point, I would like to do a side by side comparison with the GH liquid and dry formulations. My curious mind is always looking for experiments.
