Tead,
A little help from an experienced hempy grower please.

I have a 2.5 gallon hempy bucket thats filled to about 3 inches to the top. I put 4 tbsp of Osmo+ well mixed into straight pearlite. Checked my PH this morning from runoff and my PPM is only like 200ish. My mix has been combined for two weeks now.

I have been watering twice a day with tap at 6.5ish PH. Unadjusted

Is this gonna be enough nutrients to grow my girl or am i gonna have to supplement her feeding.

Now i have been reading a lot of hempy pot posts for a long time. You, Rfleman, Doc Bud etc. and i am pretty sure i am in the ball park. with the osmo dose.

I was under the impression all i had to do is water. Am i going to do additional feedings in the future?

Im only a couple weeks into my grow so no harm no foul yet.

Thanks

Gauge

3" from the top of a 2.5 gal container. Let's call it 2gal. That roughly translates into 8L.

My current feeding rate for 6L Osmocote+ (the plus includes micros) is 15g, but that's low by design (start low, work up). I'm putting pots together this morning for seedlings and going with 18g/6L. For 8L I might start at 20g.

You have some options if you want to bump up. You could re-plant into a new mix. You could supplement with liquid. There are probably more, but I'll let you run with it.

I load mine unevenly. I layer it as I put it in and I leave the top 1/5 (ish) free of Osmo+ so that the new roots don't get burned upon transplant from their clone or seedling home.

Thanks,
Got some #3 pearlite on the way, report is what I will do. Thanks for the info. I have cut and paste so much info from growers here on 420 , with so many different experiences the info I went with just doesn't seem viable. I am stoked to get on board.

Sorry to hear about Betty! I am sure a newer, younger Betty will spruce up the garden nicely.

Seems the bourg is persistent. I have been spraying every 2-3 days around these parts and I think I am getting it done.

I think putting those clones under a regular light instead of a grow light is really doing the trick! They look just as green as they did when they left, but I have a few clues that they have some decent roots going on down below. I am going to give them another week before I bust the bag open to find out.

Mine usually stay nice and perky in the humidity. Did you end up putting the clone bag into a larger clear bag (a SweetSueBag!) to maintain humidity?
I just put a bag of Northern Lights together today and it had me wondering how yours were doing.
I also put a Lemon OG x Cali Dream seedling into her big girl pot today! Fancy seeds!

Thanks,

Many folks do many variations on all the core dances. When one gets the basic steps down, one gets creative while cutting the rug.
Plus, what works in one garden may not work in another. I suffer from the heat and humidity. As a result, I avoid spraying... it can quickly lead to mold. So, you'll hear few words from me regarding spraying.
You'll settle into what works best in your world.... it just takes time.
Gonna supplement or replant? You'll have some larger roots to deal with if you replant, but it is just perlite and water after all. I often hold the plant in place with one hand and fill in with the perlite using the other.

I hate mites.. But I hate Russet Hemp Mites worse. Spider Mites I've dealt with many times. I use Azamax if I can depends on the stage of the plant. And a spray with neem right as I flip into flowering. But these Hemp Mites make spider mites look like giants. Even without my glasses, I can see the signs from the Spider Mites, but by the time I seen these,, they was everywhere. I mean the leaves were curling and looked like they were loaded with trichomes on the edges, but with a scope,, it was scary. Wasn't trichomes,, it was mites. And they were on my outdoor girls. It's hard to cover every inch of leaf on 8' bushy plants. I did get them under control with that Old Stage Green Cleaner. Stuff is great on PM too. It it's mild on your plants used right. PM washes right off. And doesn't return, least to that spot....... If you only have afew them preditory mites work on flowering plants. I seen some viable eggs on the vid. Just don't do like me and think it's ok to sprinkle them straight out the bag ontop of your buds... WTF was I thinking,,, dropping sawdust on my flowers... DUH GL on the bugs. They always seem to show up eventually. Damn it,,,

I'd been free of their visits for a few years... until now.
It's a significant battle. I've got 12 or 13 plants in both grow areas, so it's a lot of individual plants to treat.
I've been watching their numbers fall. The eggs are much less numerous. I feel like 2 more days of spraying might be the end of them... I'll spray for 4 more days.

Replant using your starting Osmo+ numbers and i am going to watch the color of the leaves as one of you guru's suggests. I read your Hempy lessons Sweet Sue has posted. May have been you or Doc Bud on the leaf watching nute technique but Gauge understands that kind of simplicity and he can do!
Your a good one Mr Tead! :high-five:

I usually like to see nice dark leaf growth with lighter green veins. My OGKs get a 'rubbery' look when nearing overfeed and are really easy to dial in.
One has to keep container size in mind as well. For example, in my 2L format, yellowing sets in really early as the plant consumes it's stored energy and start building buds. By the end of a grow, most 2Ls are pretty much devoid of any fan leaves. This effect lessens as the container size grows.

There have been many hempy growers that have forged the way before me, and before them for that matter. Each of us find our own sweet spots. I rarely see failed hempy attempts... tho it apparently can be done.

Is there a size that seems to be the best solution to consumption vs production? I noticed you are going to PVC.

I have been lurking around at quite a few Hempy growers and have always been on the fence because i have had success with DWC and i am comfortable with that. However after a 7 day test run in my new grow room, my 5 gallon bubble bucket sans plants or nutes revealed an average water temp of 75 with a high of 79 i will not put myself through that misery for four months.

Ya know... container size is, of course, directly related to plant size... which in turn relates to veg time.
The 5gal range is gonna support a 6' plant. The 10gal range will grow a tree. I grew some 4' plants in 3gal mop buckets. The 2Ls will get as tall as 2'.
One of the reasons I'm making the move from 2Ls to the 6" wide 1' tall PVC pots is to create taller and wider roots to support larger plants that I can now fit in to a significantly upgraded bloom room. I added a lot of headroom and sq footage, so I'm looking for bigger plants. The other angle on the PVC is that it's a thinner taller format than the standard pot. I feel like longer roots give me better support while maintaining the same general amount of root mass as my 3gal mop bucket grows. I hope to see some 3 or 4 foot tall sativas.

Like many excited newbie hydro growers, Tead dove right into a fancy hydro system. He had no idea of the heat issues. What a fool. The rot was wicked messy. I moved back to soil and just sucked it with slower grows and endless bugs. Once I ran a hempy bucket or two, I knew it was good to go and moved everything over. My buckets are often at around 85f and do just fine. In previous years, I've hovered closer to 95f. Hell... I lived thru a 104f overheat the other day and nothing rotted out. Tead suspects you'll be just fine way down in the 70's.

yea.... I put 2 more strains down in seed format yesterday.... I have a problem!

Ha! I turned around and discovered I have 6 pots with soil and 9, count 'em 9 hempies, with one more cutting in the bag, headed for another hempy pot.

You wanna talk about a problem.... :laughtwo:
