Tead's Indoor-ish, Winter, Hempy, OGK, SOG

The outdoor mystery volunteer went down this morning. The rain brought some brown spots I didn't like and the day length has been bringing her back into veg, so down she went.
Clippy clippy!

Locally, we've been having a good bit of 'discussion' regarding the removal of Civil War Confederate statues.
I refuse to stick my nose into the affair... except maybe to point at the obvious.... ya know.... statues for the loosers and all.
Whatever your stance on the subject, a very interesting shot came out of it this today.

I think they should stop trying to eliminate our history. They should stay, the good and the bad, as a reminder for all of us !! Almost everything taught about our history was a big lie !! And now they want to tear down the evidence ?? It's all about politics !! I say enough !! My kids know the real truth !! Some folks still fighting the civil war !!:surf:

I didn't wanna do it... but I knew it was a risk. When one introduces political/religious ideas into a thread, one rolls some dice.

Perhaps you're unaware of the attitudes and ideas that are still floating around down here. I'll give you a real world example...
I have many of these tales in my back pocket, but this one sticks out a bit further than the others.

Tead had a friend locally here in NOLA. His buddy was ivy league educated... came from BIG family money (mansion on St. Charles money)... more than one local building named after family members... you get the idea. He was about 15 years younger than I. Up and coming young community leader kinda dude. Often in the social or business columns of the local newspaper. If you know the inner workings of Mardi Gras, he'll surely have his turn as King of Rex one year.... as did his dad and as will his son.

We were randomly chatting one day (at Lucy's Retired Surfer bar!). I was addressing the social shifts one makes when moving to NOLA from PDX. He dug a bit asking questions... and Tead's just too damn open and honest to employ the proper social lies needed to avoid the discussion. I spoke of the core issue... that being one set of humans using another set as farm implements. At that point, he told me of how his family was actually caring for their slaves.... like they were family... caring for them into their old age.

It took me a bit to get over the shock and say anything. I was very taken aback and could only respond with "Really.... you think any of them made it to old age... or even to 5yrs old?". Not the best response, and not one that could lead to further open minded exchanges in hopes of altering his ideas... but fuck man.... whattyado when that happens?!?!

Our friendship cooled to formal after that and I suspect his mind categorized me as "Carpet Bagger" after that. Shame. Smart guy. I wonder if his ideas on the subject remain after all these years... but that mystery will probably remain unanswered.

In the world Tead perceives about him, he recognizes the need to remove idols dedicated to those that supported slavery. We may speak of the need to preserve history, but isn't that much better done in writing rather than idols in our society? What historical facts do those statues convey?

Time to go. Shoulda never been erected.
Next up.... that Indian hater Jackson.... I suspect it will be a day or two before we're ready for that discussion.

Wow!!!
1776.... oh the irony. Bonus points.... Slowpuffer's location listed as Massachusetts... the cradle of action back in 1776!

Also Hi Tead! Been lurking... Haven't had much to say. Ummm... Your neem oil recipes are awesome

Lurk away baby!
Haven't seen a bug inside in eons. No need to mix and spray. Good thing... I'm just too lazy for that noise on a regular basis.

A few more words... sorry.

I just could never figure out.... how did the slavery supporting dude I know get that programming in his head to begin with?
It kinda haunts me a bit about the encounter. I simply cannot understand how anyone in this day and age could even have those sorts of ideas floating in their heads.
It's a bit like someone swearing by the fact that the world is flat.

They are trying to take down my Greatgrandfather, Nathan Forrest's monument from a park in Memphis. their family even donated the land to the city for the park and him and his wife are buried there. They want to move both their bodies and statute. If I was abit younger I'd be back there to help save our heritage. Matter a fact I still pay dues to the Son's of the Confederacy. If you read that article, they even want to move a battle site??? People should know that war was about states rights, anyway you look at it. Whatever the catalyst was. Look now,, we are STILL battling for states rights over marijuana. Confederate States of Cannabis... Look Away [><] Keepem Green

My step-kids are descendants of Huey Long, not a fact they spoke of when visiting New Orleans. So I've seen a bit about how those ideas get into people heads.

I understand President Jackson was a little miffed when he arranged to have a tour of himself and the captured war chief Black Hawk paraded arround east coast cities to demonstrate the futility of native resistance. He was miffed because Black Hawk and his son Whirling Thunder were treated more as celebrities than war trophies, being more popular with the crowds than he was. Jackson left the tour while Black Hawk and his small band continued the tour without the president.

A small victory for Black Hawk compared to his people's land being siezed based on a treaty suposedly signed by 2 drunk indians with no political stature 28 years earlier than the land siezure. A land agreement which failed to mention a villiage on the land which just happened to be the largest settlement, native or european, within 200 miles. But I guess the official stated reason for the Black Hawk war, that Black Hawk hated and distrusted the British and Americans without cause - and that the natives rebeliously fought back when atacked by a militia are the history that should forever be preserved in the war memorial at Kent, Illinois. Because, you know, Abraham Lincoln was involved.

Personally, I believe the monuments to ACTUAL wars of northern agression should be torn down along with the monuments to the confederate flag draped traitors of the Great Rebellion.

I freely admit to a bias in my word choices, even though supported by the facts. Word choices based on lies, like "War of Northern Aggression", have had a good long run already.

Goddammit. Are you always this much of a pain in the ass Wood?

First... a logical human being might point to the obvious conflict of interest regarding your personal stance on the subject... blood and family tradition tend to complicate many things. Being related to the subject at hand and having been raised in a surrounding of similar humans, one has to at least give a nod to the idea and recognize the elephant in the room.
But let's ignore that.

I'm simply unable to get past the fact that the state rights we're talking about is specifically the right of one group of humans to use another group of humans as farm implements.
To me, no group has this right. No state. No country. Nobody. It's not a state's right issue... it's a human rights issue.
So, while I do support the ideas behind state's rights, the argument has always fallen a touch flat on me regarding the Civil War.

I didn't see the article and am unaware of the Memphis issue. Historically, we OFTEN move both graves and monuments and the needs of cities change. I don't really see a problem with simply moving them. Hell, locally I hope the statues make their way to the Museum of the Confederacy down on Camp street... seems a good home for them.

Thats me rebel to the core. But I won't go into all that. Before I say they should take down Mount Rushmore and all the Washington and Jefferson monuments? Oh well it is our hertige. And it can't and should'nt be forgotten.. Enough babbling'' Keepem Green

This has all triggered some reading of Nathan Bedford Forrest... including a published interview.
Fun stuff. I love digging thru history.

There's a funny geographical thing going on here too. Tead, grown in the hinter lands of Oregon, now living in the deep south. Wood, raised in the south, now existing in granola central. It's been entertaining me for a while now.

Word choices based on lies, like "War of Northern Aggression", have had a good long run already.

Indeed. Such a subtle thing. Grease used at the time to allow the machine to move forward becomes a societal tradition allowing for the core idea to exist so that the masses don't have to have their noses rubbed into the fact that one group of humans.... blah blah blah.

blah

Governments may move slowly... courts even slower... but damn, core societal changes just take friggin forever! Did the Egyptians have these discussions? Did barely communicating Neanderthals have the discussion?

Confederate flag, monuments and statues, masonic idols that is the entire city of Washington DC. Keep them all for the blanket reason, or get rid of them all for the same blanket reason, the end result will be the same. Even if they all stay, the powers that be already lead us to forget our history, and not just the shit that smashed into our social studies books in schools, but the more grimy details that has changed our beloved nation from a thriving gold backed republic to a faltering fiat democracy. The end result is exactly the same and whether you see a confederate flag on your county courthouse or not, we have all been entered into another form of slavery. The civil war didn't free black people from slavery, but rather extended the boundaries of the plantation to encompass all of USA. Now whites and blacks and everyone between have equal standing which gives the appearance of freedom. The sad truth is that the same chattels that once described a slave is now extended to ALL citizens.

Ouch Skybound! That was true, but rough. Look how hard we work as a country to keep from seeing those truths, so we don't have to actually do anything about it. You still have to find a way to stay happy through all the crap or we lose it all. I have more faith in the basic humanity of people than evidence suggests. Crazy irrepressible optimist. :cheesygrinsmiley:

At some point, I find myself with one simple idea I can hang onto. No matter what happens, there are surely fewer days in front of me than behind. That means I'm on the downhill cruise. I'm perfectly happy about that.
I refuse to get involved in further depressing discussions. Meh!

Of course, it would only seem appropriate to give a little state of the union update... since it was a watering day.

Veg. While it may appear a bit less dense than normal... there are two pots with four clones each.... so, all available space will once again be consumed and another set of waves form in Tead's SoG.

The bloom room, pretty stuffed (10 total in 9 containers), but one or two of those waves should be hitting the shore soon 'nuff.

Speaking of which.... here's a nice approaching wave. UD2 or 3, the beginning of the end.

Yum. Much nicer than banter about all those subjects I'd prefer to dance around.

Yeah I get to politics sometimes too. I even openly stated in my journal where I belong... more or less. I tend to omit the subject though cause it's real pain in the fuckin' ass. It's just not worth all the butthurt in my opinion especially in context of what we're doing on 420. You know I'm European so these discussions feel very exotic to me sometimes even if I feel for your American problems dearly from a universal point of view. Slavery was not unique for United States of A. however, it had been right there in human history since Egyptian times and I' convinced it's gonna come back which has nothing to do with my political views BTW :laughtwo: I just think that we won't skip psychos and maniacs in our societies and we won't eliminate the need for subjugation in some people, which brings me to this hectic quote: "An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life." It's very much what I believe in. It's survival for everybody in simple I have a gun on you, you have a gun on me situation or I need to be above you to have more money or I have to be white so you can be black kind of way. I think it's kinda like you're touching the sky there on acid situation while a dog pisses near you just 6 feet away. But I sincerely don't like the vision in which we are all dead because someone didn't want to accept his-her buddies didn't like to play with him-her or he-she had pimples till he was 21 or he had good parents who gave him-her everything so she-he could take a dump at the world in return.

Anyway it's just I went for the fuckin' weekend to relax a bit and I'm coming back to this :lot-o-toke:

My favourite song for everybody!

Ok folks... Tead removed 1 layer of 'Jacklegedness' today...

The scene of the crime.... old inner grow shed removed. Shed contents spread hither and yon. Oh look.... I see the pup is supervising.
