Tangwena's Malawi-Style Cob Cure: Fermented Cannabis

Today is the day....

The Carnival cola’s been 6 days in fermentation. I was hoping for a golden cure, but I can see I’ll have to learn to let the buds dry just a wee bit more. The buds were sopping wet coming out of the bag, down almost 2 grams of water weight.

It’s more red than golden, and stinks like a cob. :blunt:

Things got oozy. :battingeyelashes:

The shiny side. :cheesygrinsmiley:

It’ll dry to the touch and then back into the bag to begin the cure.

Gosh.... I love what we do. :slide:

Just out of curiosity why did you not wrap this cob? Was it to acheave the golden cure that you where looking for?

I stopped wrapping the cobs after the first couple cycles. I find it much easier and just as effective to simply compress them and seal them in the plastic.

I know I’m losing trichomes from the surface on the plastic, but that’d happen with a wrap as well.

I’m basically lazy. :laughtwo:

The golden cure is achieved by starting with buds that’re a bit more dry going into the sweat, and fermented for less time.

Ahh I got it. I know how you feel I am typicaly lazy about alot of stuf and say if it is functional to my satisfaction it is good enough lol. I have a feeling I am going to be a little Obsessed with my cobs though. I have a feeling that I am already obsessd with it. Six days and 8 hrs give or take a few min till my first two plants out of 20 come down. Thehehe.

The cob thing is new for me. The first I have done! Nice. :smokin2:This was about the last frontier of zymurgy for me! I have been making beer, wine, etc for 40 years, am a baker of sour dough from a culture I have had for years, ferment pickles, kraut and etc., make yogurt and cheese and had athletes foot once! IT would be nice to know what the fermentation process bacterium and fungi are that do the magic. A kind person with a lab and a few years should look at this and possibly grow the key species for starter packages! We then might enjoy enhanced performance within the process, quicker results perhaps. Maybe even more potency!:nerd-with-glasses::yummy:

Hahahahahaha "had athlets foot once! That reminded me of the first compost tea that I made. My wife asked why I was using an old sock as a tea bag for the compost and I replyied, "to make a fungaly dominated tea":laugh::laugh:

Good morning all hope every one is having a fab morning or evening if you are on the other side of the globe.
I appologize if this has been talked about already, I noticed a couple people ask about it but haven't found anyone that has tried. I am wondering what happens if you cob some bud that was freshly choped from the plant?
I also had an idea of frezing a cob of very fresh bud before starting the sweat. I am thinking this might produce somewhat of a soft tafy consistancy of a cob and some super duper effects. I am going to be playing with both ends of the spectrum using indicas as well as sativas. I have bad insomnia so a super indica with a supper dark cure I am hoping will knok me out for more than a couple hrs.

I anticipate you’ll find a way to make a medicine that’ll give you a sound night’s sleep. :hugs:

I don’t recall anyone trying with fresh buds, and if you do you’ll be needing to let them dry out real good all along the way, as in, every time you open them up, give them a touch more time to surface-dry. In my opinion - and with no experience to back it up - that’s a lot of water to lock up in the process. It may - and this is just a guess - increase the risk of mold.

Hanging buds drop almost half their weight in the first day or so of drying.

Take lots of notes and pictures if you go down this path. You’ve noticed, we enjoy the experiments? :laughtwo:

Thank you for the advice I will keep that in mind about the mould. I have a couple plants that I will be experimenting with any way. They did not produce under a tester light I was testing but I think with cobing I can still make some powerful medicine. It just works out that I am willing to sacrifice a couple cobs from those two plants to try my ideas.
I love that you all love the experimenting it is pleasing for my ADD riddled mind. Although I am highly medicated with quality cannabis I have not found any that will slow my mind and pharmaceuticals are not any better and have many side effects.

I’m visiting a member now with serious ADD issues. A couple years back I introduced him to Carnival, from Ministry of Cannabis, and it quickly became a favorite of his. There’s a level of clarity he and I, and many others, if they’re reporting honestly, have found with this particular chemovar. I personally don’t believe I have ADD, but I do have an energetic mind that appreciates the focus. :laughtwo:

It doesn’t solve all of his issues, but it certainly helps him tremendously. I had some precede this visit, as both a treat to him (he’s been deprived for too long) and myself, since Carnival is my base medicine. I’ll ask him again to give me an honest assessment of how it’s working for him now.

I’m suggesting Carnival for daytime clarity. It’s a strong sativa-influenced profile, and not everyone can smoke it right up to bedtime like I can. :battingeyelashes:

Hi Sue I dont recommend using fresh green buds way too wet.
I have done it before and got dark mushy results that smelt of ammonia so i no longer do it.

Treat the buds with respect and you get better results but experimentation is what its about.

I am 2 weeks away from harvesting a Purple Honduras x Panama from Ace I find it hard not to dream about it every night ha ha.
The plant whispers to me when I water her guiding me as to how she wants to be treated ha ha.
She feels she needs a drier start to the curing to bring out her energy at least thats the message I am getting ha ha.

I was expecting your response Tangwena. Thanks for the clarification. :hugs:

We’ve been talking lately about the value of letting the plant go dry in the next-to-last week to increase terpene expression and overall volume. She may be asking for that. :battingeyelashes:

I asked him and he doesn’t believe he’s had the chance to smoke enough to give any real review of effect now. He did say he appreciates the strong sativa influence Carnival brings.

I’m learning ADD is a special challenge to treat consistently with cannabis. :battingeyelashes:

I will have to put that on my need list for seeds. It is Devil's Carnival right?

Good morning I think lol. I have been working since 1:00am this morning harvisting two plants that I had under a tester light that didn't produce all that well. I made two small cobs and two thai stck cobs, one was straight off the plant and into tht cob and sweat, I am doing an experiment to see what this will produce. I am hoping to get like a tary hash consistancy. The other cob that I made I am trying a little something different, I gave the bud a quick rinse and rolled the cob with bud straight off the plant, than I am leaving it in the frezzed for a day or so snd than will sweat it. I have heard when firmenting fruit it can help to freez it first so figured this might work.
I am also taking a few grams and will do a water cure with it prior to drying to 80RH than I will cob that. Water curing is supposed to increase thc as well so why not try combining the two. I have hung the rest of the 1st plant and will dry it to the regular 80% and I am making oil out of the second plant.
Hope everyone has an amazing day. Stay lifted and elivated.

Ive read all 237 pages since yesterday of this thread. Comments; Love it.

Ive been wanting to do this also but as mentioned above with thai sticks kinda.

My idea is take fresh buds, remove as much stalk/stick as possible, grind it all up and vacuum package it in a flat rectangle shape.

Then sweat it, then before its outta the bag use a rolling pin to make it uniform and malleable.

Remove from vacume bag, place a bamboo skewer on it, roll it over the skewer cut it off and just mold it onto the skewer. Then cure it..

Half way through curing dry it a little and find a way to wrap it with cannabis leaves. Re seal and cure more.

The end result should be a Canna-cure cigarette sized blunt thats been aged exactly like the cobs. Except now you can remove the skewer and light that bad boy up. Ohhhhh I wanna do this so badly.

I know I’m losing trichomes from the surface on the plastic, but that’d happen with a wrap as well.

You’ve seen me do it, I squash them in that silicone mat then roll them into husks, then add heat for a month, which can further damage the cannabinoids. I think all that stuff vs the delicate handling described earlier for testing regular nugs could easily account for 10-20% loss in THC% IMO.

That is kinda what I did but I don't think it will be nessesary to grind it. I am just useing large dense buds for the thai sticks, during the firment it will all bassicaly form into a dense smokeable stick. I put the skewer through the bud than rolled it as tight as possible. I don't know if thease first ones will work out since the bud I used was fresh and not dried at all. Also the plants that I am using for thease first experiments are plant's that did not preform well, larfy bud, but are still quite potent. Just finished a quick dry of a few of the buds and the smoke was quite enjoyable, uplifting and very smothe. Once you try bud grown in notill soil there is no going back. My wife even said she had some slight hallucinations after it lasted 4 cycles in our dry herb vape. Most cannabis that we have had so far has only lasted two cycles and normaly does not have much of an effect recreationaly.
Simply can not wait for my first cob experiance.
