Tangwena's Malawi-Style Cob Cure: Fermented Cannabis

I haven't cobbed yet but I don't exactly agree with the first bit you said. Sure putting them in a vac bag acts as a wrapper of sorts but there's a difference between the cobs wrapped in whatever (corn husk, glad bag) and the unwrapped canary buds. So yeah they're both technically wrapped by the vacuum bag however it's not exactly the same. tangwena said "Today I had canary buds (no wrapper) and they are just as awesome in a different way to the cobs." which means both ways are awsome but there is a difference between wrapped and unwrapped moreso than just the vacuum bag. Also the corn husk or banana leaf may help with condensing the bud but shouldn't be necessary or else the canary bud would be massive because it's not wrapped/condensed.

I do however agree that it's the vacuum sealing (combined with the heat/moisture) that's doing most of the job and not necessarily any other wrapping so you probably could do a full unwrapped canary style cob in a vacuum bag and still get good results but wrapping them in something does seem to have some sort of influence on the effect. The only real way to test it would be to do two cobs of the same size from the same plant and do all the fermenting and curing at the same time and have a taste test. Actually, what you said at first (and what I disagreed with) could be true if the current differences in effect are due to the size difference between canary and cob and not the actual cob wrapping or no wrapping since the size will affect the ferment and therefor taste/effects, but you'd need to test it out with two cobs (wrapped and unwrapped) of equal size from the same plant and done at the same time. So if anyone has atleast 2 ounces handy they could split it into a 1 ounce wrapped and 1 ounce unwrapped cob and see what difference in effect they get.
I have done all of those tests my friend. The problem is they are both so strong that I dont care, the highs are def different But both so good I just do both anyway and have two different highs from the same buds. You can also do whole buds un compacted in a mason jar that has been vacuumed via an attachment available with some machines and they are different again.
Just try it and you will see for yourself its not hard.

Was just looking at CL for a nice Vacuum sealer and ran across this :)
thinking it would be nice to store my COBS (or even reg product) ?

Lot of Foodsaver Vacu Seal Food Saver Accessories Never Used

They are awesome my friend I use them in my yogurt maker the jars fit inside nicely. Try putting some green buds in one with some paper towels in bottom to absorb the sweat that comes out.
Heat the jar at 40 to 50c and you can watch the buds shrivel and change color over 24hrs. Then remove them air dry them and put them back under vacuum to cure.
They will be the best smoothest buds you have ever smoked different effect to the canary buds and cobs you can make some amazingly beautiful cures this way.

So wrapped and unwrapped are both awsome but different? How so? How would you describe the difference between the canary buds (unwrapped) versus the cobbed buds (wrapped)?
I have some Panama x Honduras same buds same plant one canary buds cured and one cob cured.
The canary buds are electric stimulated extremely euphoric the high lasts forever chewed 8 to 10hrs easily.
The cob cured buds are lysergic euphoric and deeply trippy much deeper effects.
I use the canary buds for working, going for walks socialising and generally enjoying life I have never had any pot as exhilarating. Very clear and focused I feel on top of the world.
The cob is for parties and generally getting tripped out and having a great time. Its harder to concentrate and I get distracted easily. My mind is just floating in euphoria and drifts off all the time very nice trippy feeling.

This is what I am looking for
Beautiful isn't it? Its my favorite type of high you feel so connected with everything.
The other day I was trimming a hedge high as a kite when a wag tail a kind of insect eating bird came right up to my foot to eat a dislodged insect then looked up at me and sung a beautiful song.
We got connected and every time I dislodged a moth or other flying insect it would swoop on it. It had me working for it but it was such a beautiful moment one of those special connections with nature.
I get the same thing when I go fishing sometimes you just know where the fish are just by looking at the water its a feeling I never get tired of.
You will find the more you use the cobs the more in tune with everything you become. Like when you wrote a while back how you noticed men noticing you. Theres more to this life than you can know straight but high you are super receptive to everything around you at least thats what I find.

I just got gifted a zamal clone (3rd hand) omg. My first named/known strain! Now to keep it alive and reveg, then clone again and start some cobs up!

I suppose I'll see you all in ~200 days or so :p

Very interesting, I know it's not the same, but I just sprouted a Zamaldelica by Ace seeds, it popped above soil on mid-summers day :Namaste:

I've got plans for this one, I've been dying to try a trippy sativa variety, (still desperatly trying to replicate that Thai stick high from my youth). I'll be 60 next year, and I fancy getting this Zamaldelica flowered, cobbed and cured before then and make it a party to remember.

Peace

This thread sure is gathering momentum. People everywhere trying their hand at cobs.
I think it's about time someone made a Cob Trading Bank Collective. I would love to try some of the cobs on display here. :)

Peace

Hold that idea.....someday we’ll make it come true. :circle-of-love:

I don’t disagree with your thoughts on whether wrapping makes a difference in the cure, I’m just going by my gut. Please experiment! :)

I think one bit you’ve picked up on us that the canary ones tend to be smaller initially. One other influence of wrapping on the ferment could be that you have a much more homogeneous product. The canaries I’ve seen pics of on this thread tend to be flatter, and more irregular in distribution of plant material. That may cause the canaries to cure differently due to differences in moisture content and other variables that I can’t think of off the top of my head.

It’s an open field for experimentation. That’s part of the fun!

This is extremely helpful thank you. So there is a difference between wrapped and unwrapped cobs (unless the difference is in cob size and not because of wrapped/unwrapped). More testing of course will be needed for different chemovars and peoples preferences but this is some great information.

I personally want to use cobs to help me concentrate and get creative and write so it looks like the unwrapped canary style buds would better suit my needs. But the wrapped ones would be nice to chill out on at the end of the day. Can't wait for my new stuff to arrive so I can finally join in on the cobbing fun.

:thanks: :hugs:

I roll my canary the same way I do my full cob. The only difference is I unwrap it from the husk after rolling it. I try to make mine similar thickness, but generally only about halt the length. Cheers!

So you've got canary and cob about the same size/thickness? Have you noticed any difference between the canary (unwrapped) and cob (wrapped) if they're roughly the same size?

I'm harvesting 2, maybe 3 plants today and would love to try this. I have the foodasaver lids and attachment to do it. If I follow what you say then we skip the ferment stage? Just sweat then dry then leave in the jar vacuumed at room temp? Any other tips?

I'm trying to resist the urge to go out and pick up the set of containers Neiko.
