Tangwena's Malawi-Style Cob Cure: Fermented Cannabis

Ok cobbers I'm trying the jar method. I have some Ultra Dog I jarred last night after 32 hours on the drying rack. I put about 40 grams in the jar with a paper towel. It's been sweating almost 12 hours now and there is visible sweat forming. I'll pull them out to dry when I get home tonight. I'll get some pics then. They are already changing color...pretty cool!

I’m so excited Neiko. Can’t wait to see the pictures. I went looking for the accessory kit for the FoodSaver and they didn’t have any at the local Target, but I’m gonna hit a WallyMart this morning and may score a vacuum lid instead.

I’m a month from any interesting harvest, so I’ll be watching closely.

Thank you for that unbridled curiosity you demonstrate Neiko.

Think of it....in less than two months we’ve completely changed the way we harvest and cure.

It’s near time to turn some cobs into oil. I’ll need a few more on hand before I’m ready to try, but we’re getting close.

One of these days Neiko’s gonna surprise us with a lab report on a cob. When we follow that report with a few of oils we’ve created I suspect we’re going to be even more in awe of what we stumbled into.

NOTE There are 2 SIZE MASON Jar vacuum adapter sizes, 1 for the WIDE MOUTH Jars
and another for the Reg mouth jars.

Watching the videos on use, You simply use the center lid cover (metal screw down ring NOT USED)
place center metal cover on jar place FOODSAVER Mason Jar Vacuum adapter on top of jar and press
button. Once VACUUM SEALED the metal cover will stay on TIGHT without the metal screw ring, you
will need to use a spoon to pry off the metal lid to open jar (spoon wont damage lid for future use)

EDIT: From what I have looked at I think ONLY the MASON JAR Vacuum adapters are needed.
But The Vacuum Canister sets are nice for storage. Not sure about the Universal VacuTop lids but
the WINE BOTTLE Vacuum stoppers look fun

Ok so here are the before and after pics of the Ultra Dog after a 24 hour sweat at 110 F.
Before

After

I did it just how Gazoo said. I had to re-read the instructions to be sure I did it right. I don't see how it vacuums out the jar with the metal lid on the jar but it does. At first I thought I was supposed to leave that off too but I guess not.

Thanks for posting the pic's Nice to see what to expect :)

For sure the FoodSaver Mason jar sealing process is not intuitive
I did not get the instructions with the set so ???? WTF

Had to find the PDF manual and even then needed to find YouTube video
before it made sense :) thinking the center lid gets sucked up as the vacuum
is applied and as it approaches its max the cover gets sucked back down and
sealed just as the vacuum is stopped ? BTW I did put the metal screw ring back
on after finishing just as a safety measure

Wow, that's some change after 24 hrs. How dry are they now, how do they feel to touch ?

:goodjob:
They aren't even close to dry. They feel saturated. The paper towel was pretty damp. I'm not sure how long I'm supposed to let them dry before I ferment them. They feel like little sponges.
@tangwena any guidance here is appreciated. They've been drying for about 1.5 hours now.

Dry them to the same kind of moisture content that they were when you put them in. They will have shed water but also tightend up or shriveled from the loss of water so you need to keep them slightly moist all the time they are curing.
I would give them another 12 hours at 40c after drying them of excess water.
You will see them shed more water and shrivel up even further. Once you see more color change you can dry them again but only of excess water. Then decide if you want to dry them as is or cure them in the vacuum jar further.
Keep the jar in a warm place about 35c to cure them they will cure faster than the cobs.

I just jarred them back up. They were moist but not saturated. I feel good about their condition going back in. I put them back in the jar and lightly compressed them. Should I have put the paper towel back in?

Hi Neiko its good to put a little in but most of the water will have already been pulled out. Its no big deal to open it up and put some in if you see water collecting in the bottom.
If you feel good about the condition you will be ok you will be developing a feel for this by now.
You just need to guide them along as they cure now, they need to be a little moist to cure as you know already just not wet.
I have a feeling you will ace this my friend its in your blood now.
