Tangwena's Malawi-Style Cob Cure: Fermented Cannabis

So the corn husk is not necessary? Is there any difference between using them or not on the final product?
Yes but its all in your mind ha ha, seriously you dont need them they are just window dressing both methods will give you stella results.
Today I had canary buds (no wrapper) and they are just as awesome in a different way to the cobs. I will def cure this strain with and without wrapper next harvest I am flying.

I think the difference is in generated heat. The wrapped cobs may be staying hotter in the core, which would exert subtle pressures on the blending molecules.

In my opinion that would somehow effect at least taste, if not euphoric experience.

But unwrapped are potent as hell m’lord. Don’t hesitate to forego the wrapping.

I treated myself to almost a full gram of chewed Malawi cob yesterday.

Whew! @tangwena, I had one of those moments you speak of where I looked at someone and saw into her soul. Lol!

Ok so it’s time for me to try cobbing, I have 2 ounces of Malawi, 2 oz of Skunk #1 and 2 oz of Bedroom Cookies bred by Rich Farmer. They will go in my food dehydrator with digital temp control and I’ll sweat them for 24 hours to start.

Better late than never. You're still on the cutting edge of this cure method.

So wrapped and unwrapped are both awsome but different? How so? How would you describe the difference between the canary buds (unwrapped) versus the cobbed buds (wrapped)?

I think the vacuum bag acts as the wrapper in this method. Tying them in a corn husk or banana leaf helps condense the bud, but because we then put it in a vac bag, I don’t think it’s necessary to the process of curing.

Just my hunch. I think that’s why we are getting much the same results with the canary as with the wrapped cobs.

WooHoo! PW! You’re gonna love, love, love the results my friend. :slide:

:welcome: to the exploration.

Ahhh....another curious brain dedicated to spreading the joys of what we learn here. I’m impressed with the way you jumped in sir. :bravo: I’m already learning that larger cobs create sweeter cobs, or at least thTs how it’s playing out on my end.

@Gazoo, sweet, aren’t they? I’m using the ziplock bags FoodSaver sells with the handheld unit for cobs I’ll be using. That’s been working nicely too.

I haven't cobbed yet but I don't exactly agree with the first bit you said. Sure putting them in a vac bag acts as a wrapper of sorts but there's a difference between the cobs wrapped in whatever (corn husk, glad bag) and the unwrapped canary buds. So yeah they're both technically wrapped by the vacuum bag however it's not exactly the same. tangwena said "Today I had canary buds (no wrapper) and they are just as awesome in a different way to the cobs." which means both ways are awsome but there is a difference between wrapped and unwrapped moreso than just the vacuum bag. Also the corn husk or banana leaf may help with condensing the bud but shouldn't be necessary or else the canary bud would be massive because it's not wrapped/condensed.

I do however agree that it's the vacuum sealing (combined with the heat/moisture) that's doing most of the job and not necessarily any other wrapping so you probably could do a full unwrapped canary style cob in a vacuum bag and still get good results but wrapping them in something does seem to have some sort of influence on the effect. The only real way to test it would be to do two cobs of the same size from the same plant and do all the fermenting and curing at the same time and have a taste test. Actually, what you said at first (and what I disagreed with) could be true if the current differences in effect are due to the size difference between canary and cob and not the actual cob wrapping or no wrapping since the size will affect the ferment and therefor taste/effects, but you'd need to test it out with two cobs (wrapped and unwrapped) of equal size from the same plant and done at the same time. So if anyone has atleast 2 ounces handy they could split it into a 1 ounce wrapped and 1 ounce unwrapped cob and see what difference in effect they get.

Welcome aboard @Pennywise. A clown and a cob this will get good.. Hehe You will love them.

I don't have wrapped and unwrapped, but I did do 2.5oz unwrapped for 24 hour sweat and 2.5oz unwrapped for 48 hours. Its White Widow and was just a touch to dry for my liking going in (70-80%). I am sure it will still be great just not as dark as I was looking for. Thinking it will be more of a golden brown, my guess.

@Nightmask2, I think the differences might be more noticeable the larger the individual cobs are at the start. Just a theory of mine.

Also, the main reason my canaries aren’t as compressed as the cobs is simply because I don’t make them as compressed.

I made a new one out of almost an ounce of 1 and a half day dried Unknown OG. I used two moistened corn husks, it’s only been in the dehydrator for an hour and a half and husk is already turning purple. It’s obviously absorbing something. I didn’t bother with a canary, since I don’t know what to look for anyway.

I am watching closely. It was suggested to me by @Van Stank to cob a portion of my upcoming sativa harvest. I think that this many folks can't be wrong.

Hey man, glad to see you made your way over here. Lots of good info and experimentation taking place within this group. Everyone is extremely helpful so if you have any questions, just ask. Tangwena is kind of the jedi master among this group and SweetSue is the one that kind of got the ball rolling over here on 420 so they are the ones we have to thank for this wonderful adventure.

This weekend, I harvested my Alien vs Triangle (auto) and let the buds dry for about 2 days to prepare for cobbing.

Knowing I was going to vac-seal the newly harvested buds "naked," I was too lazy to soak corn husks and then dry them off, just to get them rolled up. So I decided to try Glad® Press & Seal® instead.

I laid the sticky side of the Press & Seal down atop the bamboo sushi mat, so it stuck to the mat but not to the buds. It worked really well! Got the cobs pretty tight. Definitely going the GP&S route going forward.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing that Mac!

I want to see how mine turn out before I invest more bud to this.

Hey Penny, those are old harvests right? I believe there could be a bit of a difference between fresh harvested buds and older buds based off what I read way back in the first 30 pages or so.

I think you will still get good results regardless but you will absolutely love it with fresh buds.

Beautiful isn't it? Its my favorite type of high you feel so connected with everything.
The other day I was trimming a hedge high as a kite when a wag tail a kind of insect eating bird came right up to my foot to eat a dislodged insect then looked up at me and sung a beautiful song.
We got connected and every time I dislodged a moth or other flying insect it would swoop on it. It had me working for it but it was such a beautiful moment one of those special connections with nature.
I get the same thing when I go fishing sometimes you just know where the fish are just by looking at the water its a feeling I never get tired of.
You will find the more you use the cobs the more in tune with everything you become. Like when you wrote a while back how you noticed men noticing you. Theres more to this life than you can know straight but high you are super receptive to everything around you at least thats what I find.
