Tales From The Krip!

DAY #45 OF 12/12 - FAT & FROSTY BUDS!

It's been 45 days of 12/12 and the Platinum Kush Breaths are getting fat & frosty and are just dripping with resin!

Here are a few pics from today:

Since I did the CAT drenches early on these girls, I'm really considering doing another CAT (probably tomorrow, if I do it!) just to see what happens. I can't imagine they're gonna start losing all those trichomes!

Happy Harvests!

Hey Mr Krip, gorgeous flowers you've got there! :yummy::bravo::headbanger:

PKBs are stacked and ready to rock! Those are some frosted beauties right there Krip! Fantastic work my man! I’ve been looking at some platinum crosses this last week and wooooh they are some winning strains! You’ve done the PKB justice and it looks amazing! Can’t wait for a smoke report of that bad girl

WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH THE AUTOS???

I'm seeing a lot of indoor growers growing autos and I'm wondering what the real attraction is? :hmmmm:

I understand autos if you're growing outdoors and battling seasons, and I understand the indoor grower that has some extra space in the veg tent and decides to throw in an auto to flower in the veg area.

Other than that, why would you grow the auto version instead of the photo?

It seems to me it would have lower THC (mixed with Ruderalis), can't clone it, genetics have been diluted, I can always flip a photo early if I want to finish quick and train if I want to keep it short, etc.

I just don't see any advantage of an auto other than some auto-only strains.

I was drawn to autos early on in my growing career due to the "ease" and speed" they were supposed to grow with. My first round with them I grew 4 with one that turned out to be a photo. I ended up yielding 3-4 zips a piece off of them! I then found Dark Devil Auto and since it was supposed to be purple every time I was drawn to it. I ran a few and only got a quarter ounce to a half ounce off of them. Which was super disappointing. My wife loved the DDA though. And honestly some of the first autos I grew put a very heavy smoker on her ass! Like almost could not function for a while off of one bowl which was not like her. After my first round though I got very poor yields and stopped running them. If I were to run autos now it would be Mephisto's gear. They are supposed to be potent and yield very well.

Edit: I should mention that I would do as others mentioned and run them in with my veg plants or outside if I were to grow under the sun. I do have some DDA seeds a member gave me that I may just do either one of those things with.

QUICK BREEDING UPDATE - TRAINWRECK #2 IS FEMALE

Not sure if I had mentioned it, but I ended up culling Trainwreck #1 a week, or so, ago since it just wasn't very healthy and wanted something more sturdy for breeding. At that time, I also took a couple of clones from Trainwreck #2 and put the mom in the breeding cab to sex.

Turns out, TW #2 is a female, so I have another strain to pollenate with the PTK on this first round. :yahoo:

Happy Harvests!

That is great that you got another female! It is funny that it is a Trainwreck since that is one of the crosses Icemud made as well lol. Of course it would be the one overlapping strain that gives you a girl and not the different ones.

I have a bunch of DDA seeds I'd like to run, at some point, too. And, I understand DDA since, AFAIK, it's one of those auto-only strains. I've heard several people complain about the yields but the buds are gorgeous and I don't hear many complaints about the high. ;)

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing about the Trainwreck. I could always skip that one in the '79 Christmas Bud breeding round and just get some seeds from Brother Icemud !

DAY #47 OF 12/12 - DAY #1 AFTER 3RD CAT DRENCH!

It's been 47 days of 12/12 and, since the PKB's got their CAT drenches early this round, and I've been considering "playing" with a 3rd CAT late into flower, I gave the two PKB's another CAT yesterday.

I am starting to see some fade on some of the leaves, but that's pretty normal this far into flower, too, and the trichomes just look unbelievable, but enough talk about trichomes...let's see the pics! :yahoo:

Damn Mr Krip well done - all your flowers are looking absolutely perfect :bravo::yummy: Completely covered in trichomes and looking rock hard :headbanger: How's the terps?

QUICK BREEDING CAB UPDATE

Here are a couple shots of '79 Christmas Bud #2. She's definitely the female to be used for breeding. The more I thought about it, even if the "mutant" turns out to be better smoke, it just doesn't make sense to use it for breeding. Even if the F1's or F2's don't show the issues, there's always a chance it will end up showing back up in some future generation. So #2 it is...

Hey Krip, here is an email from Nspecta at CSI Humboldt. I asked him about the mutants and this was his response.

Yes, generally the inbred mutants types account for 10-20% of the population…from what I’ve observed running larger preservation runs. They produce flower just fine but I generally would select against them for directionaly preserving the line. They tend to start off slower & smaller than the rest but pick up the pace a bit in flower & sometimes even grow out of the mutant look.

Hope that helps a little. :)

Yeah, I was aware of this only because you had mentioned it previously which is what got me thinking more about it and I finally decided Nspecta may know a little more about breeding the X-mas bud than I do, so that was a big part of the decision! :thanks:

SO, WHAT'S UP WITH THE BREEDING, ANYWAY??? :thedoubletake:

I figured I was due for an update on what the current situation is with the breeding project since there have been a few delays and changes.

The original delay was simply that those '79 Christmas Buds take forever to veg and they just weren't mature enough to start breeding when the timing was right on the last round.

Since then, I've culled some of the females and popped and sexed more seeds, so here's where we're at...

The sponsored grow I'm doing should have about 60 days left before harvest which means, I want to get the breeding cabinet flipped in about 45 days, which means, in the next two weeks, or so, I'll need to have rooted cloned of anything I plan on breeding this round.

I already have rooted clones of the 79XB #4 (the male) and #2 (the selected female) since they take longer to mature and, if for any reason they're not ready, I'll use the parents for the breeding. I'm not letting those suckers delay me again!

The strains that will be used for the crosses are: Platinum Cake, Platinum Kush Breath, Dolato, Blackwater, Trainwreck, & Bubba Kush which should fill that small cab with 8 plants in 4" containers.

I have fresh clones of the PCake, Trainwreck, & Blackwater. The Bubba Kush clones are a little more mature but not ready to take clones from, yet, so may end up cloning later and using one of the existing. I'll take clones of the PKB & Dolato this week, so we should be all set in 45 days to begin the orgy!

By the time we have seeds, the sponsored grow will be done in the main tent which means I can continue my primary grow in there and use the 2' x 4' to grow out some of the crosses.

Next round, we'll be crossing the IHG Black Cherry Jelly with everything! :yahoo:

So, unless and until things change again (I don't think this is likely! ;) ), those are the current plans for breeding.

Happy Harvests!

His description sounds exactly like the mutant I had... Started off a little slower, but in the end outgrew the odd leaf look and grew fantastic buds. I kept all my beans from my pheno's separately and took notes for reference later. My mutant ended up being the most potent terps of all the ladies, but only by a little bit. Also was 1 of 2 straight pine terps out of 5.

Also, the mutant had a completely different structure than the other females. The other females looked very similar to yours, where the lower branches were close to the main stalk and medium-short in size. The mutant however, had a very squatty style christmas tree type look where the bottom branches swooped outwards quite a way and hooked upwards almost like a christmas tree.

Good choice on selecting only the best though :) I use the same bloom nutrients by the way :) ive been doing a synthetic/organic hybrid feeding and that foxfarm is really good stuff :)

Soooo.....how's the kit working?

Soooo.....how's the kit working?
Let's just say, I'll be contacting you again on your Order line and not your Complaints or Returns line!

The kit just does the perfect job of bringing out the full potential of the genetics with very little work or knowledge needed by the grower.

You can use that quote in your new brochure! ;)

:thanks:

High Brix soil was designed for creatures with no IQ's....and no knowledge. Just instinct. They make perfect slaves. Stoners are friggin' geniuses compared to nematodes and plants.....

If the stoner stays out of the way of the slave labor, shit gets done! I think you're realizing that in spades.

BTW, that flocking agent looks exactly like trichomes.

So, are you saying my plants look so good because of my low IQ??? :thedoubletake:
:passitleft:

OK....I admit it...The nematodes have ME beat cuz' I never had plants like that in hydro!
