Taking My Chances With The Devil: Dark Devil Auto & Devil's Crack Auto

Sometimes a cross that should be fantastic turns out to be boring. Sometimes one or more of the phenos are home runs. You just never know.

You have a Happy New Year!!
Happy New Year to you as well.

My best bet for a great pheno would probably be to make F2s. I dont have a large quantity of these beans so it will have to be a project down the line or seeds for the end of the world.. lol... I have plenty of other genetics to play with til that day. Trailer Trash Betty looks to have a ton of potential.

Ordered my 300g sample of MEGA CROP today before making up some care packages. Pretty ho-hum day otherwise...

Sitting around waiting for the inspection next week so I can get back to popping beans. Also the TTBs are taking their sweet time ripening. The Devil's Pitchfork is still drying.. should be mostly seeds, lol.

I keep having fleeting thoughts of dwc. Some kind of multi-site tote or a few small bubble buckets. Guy can always dream

First small piece of bud from the Devil's Pitchfork is being smoked right now. Without the benefits of a long cure I am sure that I miss a lot of flavor with these beauties. I find the terpene profile to be a bit tangy compared to the mother DDA. Smooth rich smoke like DDA and an instant sativa high like the father's extended family. The top of the head type of high, could be intense for less seasoned sativa smokers. Glad I made this cross. Stoned to the bone, laundry time....

Will update with a couple shots momentarily. Also once I am moving around shortly I can comment on pain relief implications.

If you were to dry that with the Low and Slow method in the fridge you can save the terpenes as well as the color of the buds. It looks very good to me. How do you imagine it would grow in a 5 gallon fabric pot under 3k QB lighting?

I imagine that it would do very well, especially compared to a 9cm seedling pot. Lol. I can only judge based on this one single phenotype, but I will be planting alot more of these based on that one bowl I smoked.

It seems like the PR x Unknown in the cross has passed on some potency and cut the purple by just a bit. After inspection on the 8th I plant to start 6 of these, kill the males and up-can the females so I can get a better look at what we are working with.

Considering switching to straight perlite. That has to be done very carefully as a huge bag of perlite being brought into an upstairs apartment can bring a lot of unwanted onlookers in the middle of winter.

The bags of perlite I buy come up almost to my waist and are maybe 32" square. So yeah hard to sneak in for sure. Of course not many people would know what a bag of perlite was and even less would know what it was for, but I would still sneak it in in maybe two white kitchen garbage bags or something.

Yeah, but just think of how many buds you can now grow with all those seeds! Good job!

Thanks. These are the future of my very own stabilized autoflower. I need to get a space put together where I can run 18hr lights to pick some of each autos and photos out of a bunch for further breeding. When I get to growing out F3s I will have to be planting a lot more seeds to find just the right plants to cross for the F4 generation.

I still haven't bit the bullet and bought any auto seeds to play with so I am stuck playing with what I have, helluva way to work on my lack of patience. I've been Google shopping for the right seeds for awhile, guess I am a cheapskate more than anything

Get on the mailing list of some of our sponsors such as @SeedsMan and you'll get notified when they have a promotion. Also watch "The Vault" as they always have giveaways. One breed who's autos I always seem to have luck with is Fast Buds. All it takes is a 5 pack of something good, and some luck enabling you to make a bunch of seeds of that particular auto. If it's good, from a good breeder people will do some trading....autos for autos. And then you're off and running.

From what I can tell, the containers I am using for 12oz hempys are not good for my plants. I suspected that they would be good because they are made to handle acidic fruit juice concentrate... Not the case when under strong light and 68°-80°F. I believe after some inspecting and conversation with the wife, that the plastic is off gassing.

So, the two that are already halfway through flowering in said pots will be left to finish as best they can and my Punto Rojo x ( Mazar x Guerrero)s will have to be transplanted when they show sex. In talking with the wife, I guess we are going to start using solo cups. Easier to transplant and probably less poisonous than a frozen concentrated fruit juice container.

I will be sure to check them out. At this juncture I am considering a few options. The good thing about having made a bunch of seeds is that I can go back a generation and restart pheno hunting as needed when my crosses might not work out that great. Current considerations point towards growing out some F2s, pick a nice robust autoflowering Male specimen and back cross to DDA. Or I can make f3s witha Male and female auto. Or I can buy a seed pack and breed an auto phenotype with fresh and somewhat stable genetics. Or I could grow the f2s, find a female auto phenotype and bust out the CS for Devil's Pitchfork S1s.

Not sure why I am breeding autos, honestly. Growing 11/13 from seed makes some photoperiod plants done at 11 weeks from seed which is pretty much the same minimum time it takes for a DDA to finish under the same lighting schedule. I guess it is just something I wanted to do and I have no reason to quit now that I am this far along.

I may chop the short pheno of TTB today... the seeds are done the leaves are yellow. 6-8 week strain just hitting 8 weeks of flowering, the tall pheno looks like 2 more weeks, but with the inspection soon I need her dry and put away so I dont enter the harvest window the day before inspection and have to chop her under dire straits. They were really only seed plants so I should just hack em down... time for more wife talks, lol

For me the allure of autos is they can pretty much be grown anywhere and be successful. I have a friend who bought a CHEAP 200 watt Chinese LED off ebay for I think he said $30 with free shipping. He got a box at the local Best Buy that an apartment size fridge came in. He sat it in the corner of his bedroom and cut a door in the front. He drilled a bunch of holes in the top for heat to escape, and spray painted the inside white. He put some sort of tin on the inside of the top to reflect the heat so the cardboard wouldn't get hot. This he suspended an inch below the stop so the heat could get out. He keeps the door open during lights on with an oscillating fan blowing into the box.

Anyway, he's grown probably a dozen autos in that box over the last several years without a hitch. He said he probably averages 1.5 oz. from each plant. Some a little more, some a little less. But what's nice is he doesn't have to worry about light leaks. He has the light on a timer, so every other day he opens the little door, pours water/nutrients into the pot and closes the door again and he's done.

Yeah, I am staying on it. I think that my thinking has me pointed at different reasons. In the next year or so we will be moving to a rural area. If we move to an unfriendly state, I want to be able to plant in different spots around the property to ensure we always have an easy couple of outdoor crops per year. Til then, I really just find them interesting and great for learning about breeding and genetics... even a gross smoking purple phenotype can be turned into good medicine.

I have pretty much accepted the fact that I need a veg/clone/autoflower box. After I build my 1100k cob fixture I can use my mars300 for that box.

They cancelled and rescheduled the appointment for apartment inspection as soon as I took the tent down this morning. I've been busy prepping for this inspection so there hasn't been time for too many updates or even thoughts. The house has been in disarray since my wife broke her leg in two places and I have been left to care for her, two autistic children, and two dogs since October 6th. So one can only imagine how bad my 680 square foot 2 bedroom apartment was..

Still have to set the tent back up and until next Tuesday morning things will remain the same with no more seeds being popped until after then. Everything g is doing okay. Smelled some root rot in my 12oz hempys when I fed outside of the tent and no filter running. Perhaps it is not off-gassing plastic that causes my troubles.

Deciding if I want to continue with gravel/coco hempys, switch to fabric pots with an inert soiless mix, or go to 100% perlite hempy... I have cash set aside, just need to make a final decision.

I have also been looking at dwc options, but have found that the shallow totes I want to use are rather pricey. The taller totes won't work because of my low tent ceiling.

Got my Mega-Crop sample. Mega Chunky? Mega Smelly? Ingredients look good. Less cal and mag than Maxibloom, less sulphur as well. I will have to plant 3 feminized seeds of the same cultivar and and run some comparisons. I guess one would be Mega-Crop start to finish, one Maxibloom start to finish, and one would be 3-4 weeks of Mega-Crop and Maxibloom to the end. All 3 would be in identical pots.. Actually doesnt sound all that fun when I think about it more, but it seems almost necessary. Maybe just two plants instead..

Once I am able to, I plant to pop 3 seeds per week from here on out. I will cull most of the males. That should give me at least one female to harvest every week or so after the first start to mature. I really need to be getting more harvests with plants that yield at least as much as my recent NL x GG#4 harvest. Weekly harvests are a big goal for us. We need this because the bud quality at the stores is like playing an overpriced scratch off lottery ticket and really puts a dent in the wallet. So this is the plan of all plans. With varied flowering times it will be interesting to see how everything pans out...

I guess that is all the rambling I have left. I will snap a couple pics when I get the tent up and running again.... PEACE

That sucks about the inspection being rescheduled. Almost as bad as when I had to break down my two grow tents and one grow box to have my new heat pump installed. Then setting it all back up after they left. THEN taking it all back down again two days later when they had to come back to adjust something. That was a pain in the ass.

Are you saying the yield from the NL X GG#4 exceeded that of the NL X NL? That surprises me a lot actually.

I think to harvest a plant weekly you have to have 16 plants running at the same time.

I was more using the NL x GG#4 as a reference to the minimum acceptable yield, which was still respectable. The NL x NL has thus far outperformed all of my previous plants by weight. I ought to pollinate one with a TTB Male some day.

Trailer Trash Betty is some potent smoke. Doesnt offer a ton of odor or flavor. She is smooth but hits you hard. Not much else to say.

I was thinking 15-18. 3 rows of 6 plants would be pretty snug, so maybe 15 to keep things rectangular. I had thought that maybe just planting 3 seeds per week, culling all (or most) males as soon as they make themselves known, and immediately replacing those males by popping fresh seeds would keep me busy and keep the harvests flowing after the initial 11-12 weeks passes and the first plants mature. I have no idea how many plants I would end up with but seems like it might get crowded.

I will carry the current ladies through their respective harvests and be starting the next run with a fresh perspective, perhaps even a fresh journal.

If i can find the time tomorrow I will be building my 1100k fixture from the scrapped mars300 parts tomorrow. I may actually take some pics of the process and share those. Lol, we'll see.

Well let me ask you this. What yield (dry weight) are you looking to pull down each week? The plants you're currently growing are on the smaller side I surmise due to space constrictions. Is that height? width? both? Personally I think you should get yourself six (or however many you can fit) 5 gallon buckets and grow yourself a rotation of 6 autoflower plants. Grow them larger to where you're getting 2-3 zips per plant and growing less plants at a time. You have to water/feed less, the autos are pretty much autos in that they're easy to take care of and grow.
