I pollinated DDA#1 at about 7 weeks old. That was too late because they didn't make it another 6 weeks before my fan went out and bud rot set in... she was my first try at pollination. I still got lots of viable seed.Nice looking sacks of seed there buddy! Now I see why you're running in small containers.
DDA for me usually is a 70-77 day strain. For AUTOs I never really look at the trichomes I look at the calendar and the pistol shape. Once the Calyx look like they are ripe = chop. Many of the Calyx that are at the stems / base of the petiole those will start to recede (get smaller) first well before the calyx in the flowers. Thats my sign.
I've grown out lots of AUTO strains and they just "look" done ... its usally pretty obvious. Plants tipping over, leathery fans & plant looks about dead! Chop day.
I tried to seed some AUTO plants with pollen, I chopped them too soon and didn't get any viable seed. Not sure why that happened... maybe pollinated too late?? How soon do you pollinate your AUTO strians?
A week after the first pollination, I dunked q-tip in my envelope of pollen and rubbed it on four very young SSDC flowers. She would have been 4-5 weeks old. That seems to be the best time so far. Most of the seeds are in the lower parts of the buds, leaving me plenty of good smoke.
Earlier is definitely better. I would love to get some AUTO regulars for breeding. These are the only two auto strains I have, and it will be awhile before I get back to working on those. Two more breedings and I should have 100% auto seeds out my wazoo.... but I have to grow medicine too so that slows my roll quite a bit in pollen chucking land
