Taking My Chances With The Devil: Dark Devil Auto & Devil's Crack Auto

Nice looking sacks of seed there buddy! Now I see why you're running in small containers.

DDA for me usually is a 70-77 day strain. For AUTOs I never really look at the trichomes I look at the calendar and the pistol shape. Once the Calyx look like they are ripe = chop. Many of the Calyx that are at the stems / base of the petiole those will start to recede (get smaller) first well before the calyx in the flowers. Thats my sign.

I've grown out lots of AUTO strains and they just "look" done ... its usally pretty obvious. Plants tipping over, leathery fans & plant looks about dead! Chop day.

I tried to seed some AUTO plants with pollen, I chopped them too soon and didn't get any viable seed. Not sure why that happened... maybe pollinated too late?? How soon do you pollinate your AUTO strians?
I pollinated DDA#1 at about 7 weeks old. That was too late because they didn't make it another 6 weeks before my fan went out and bud rot set in... she was my first try at pollination. I still got lots of viable seed.

A week after the first pollination, I dunked q-tip in my envelope of pollen and rubbed it on four very young SSDC flowers. She would have been 4-5 weeks old. That seems to be the best time so far. Most of the seeds are in the lower parts of the buds, leaving me plenty of good smoke.

Earlier is definitely better. I would love to get some AUTO regulars for breeding. These are the only two auto strains I have, and it will be awhile before I get back to working on those. Two more breedings and I should have 100% auto seeds out my wazoo.... but I have to grow medicine too so that slows my roll quite a bit in pollen chucking land

Sure is nice to have a decent phone to take pics.

I like how the branches of the Red Point have thickened up over the last two weeks. Love the seed collection!

Yeah some of those gals, they take awhile to fill out. It's a challenge to keep them small and healthy. I think she is in a 2.5qt pot of recycled coco/perl/verm, which is super small for a plant her size. I like the way recycled coco behaves.

The seed collection is an ever growing ordeal. After a bit here I am going to jump in and start working my auto genetics some more, but It will be awhile.... I just wish I had more room to pheno pick.

I am wondering how difficult it would be to take these fresh genetics I have made and build them into two desirable strains, one Auto and one Photo. Been reading about genetics this evening, got the wheels turning.

About what I was saying about creating two strains with my new genetics....

It wouldn't really be all that difficult. I could breed my SSDC cross with my DDA cross. Pick an auto Male and auto female from the next generation, cross them. Then plant a bunch of those, pick a female or two and self the poop out of her/them. This would leave me with a ton of auto-fem seeds for my own pleasure.

I think if I did the initial cross as above, then picked photo period phenos to cross, I could follow the same process and end up with a bunch of photoperiod gems.

Or of course I could do the initial cross, pick whatever phenos I want and self them.

Or I could.... Turns out there are lots of easy ways to do what I want and end up happy. Looks like I may need to get some colloidal silver..

Now the update, sort of... my Columbian Red Point x Unknown is filling out so nicely that I may have to re-rearrange the tent again. Starting to steal light from DDA# 2.

Waiting impatiently for more weed to harvest.

Your SSDC auto......isn't that a cross between (I can't remember for sure) Sour Diesel auto and Dark Devil Auto? Both are feminized strains. You won't get any males no matter how you cross them. But you already have a photoperiod cross with the Northern Lights X Dark Devil auto and the (Red Point x unknown) X Dark Devil auto.

SSDC is Mephisto Sour Crack pollinated by the DDA he reversed. I haven't figured out if SSDC stands for super sour devils crack or sweet and sour devils crack yet, seen it both ways on here. Lol. When I received the seeds they were labeled Devil's Crack Auto. I am leaning toward sweet and sour judging by the odor and flavor. Still pretty fresh though. She made some beautiful seeds, beez.

They were pretty seeds. Good additions to your collection!

Neighbor told me he had never smoked an auto flower that he liked.

I smoked DDA with him and he liked it and he tried SSDC today and said it tastes pretty damn good.

Up late having a bad insomnia night, again. I had $9 on a wm gift card and ended up buying one of those integrated driver cobs. It is allegedly full spectrum (blurple) 110v x 50watt... I know these aren't really the highest efficiency type of deals, but it didn't really cost me anything substantial. I've heard that they run awfully hot. I do have buyer remorse. I dont care for blurple lights...

Yet I do want to see if they would work as supplemental lighting. QBs are out of the budget as are cob kits. Hps is too dang hot and even $75 for a 150w is too much at this point. Cfls, well I hope I am past that phase. I doubt I will be happy with my purchase, but I won't know until I try it.

Wife said she might let me get a new light next month. I should probably take her up on that offer. 24 watts per square foot is just not enough. Adding the 50 watt only ups me to 29. Ahhhhhh ramble-typing..

I feel like I may be starving my flowering girls. Going to make up a 2/3 or maybe full strength batch and see how they like it. They are healthy for the most part, just look like they might appreciate a bigger meal. Still working on dialing things in a bit. This maxibloom is just so cost effective I cant see switching it up. Also running 6 different strains I need things to be as simple as possible.

Done with the rambling for now. Finish this bowl of SSDC, hit the GSC oil cartridge and hit the sack.

Peace

Well, not checking the ph for over a month finally caught up with me... started to see some signs...

Ph of my feed was 7.5  I am surprised the plants are still alive, much less as healthy as the are/were. I mixed up a batch of 5.8 last night, fed, and today they already look happier. That'll teach me for being lazy. Other than that, they should all be fine. Only signs of trouble were on my two mid-flower gals. All will be well in a few feedings.

Everyone is looking good. The flowering gals are much happier with the correct ph. Mostly they were about to get really bad but I caught it in time. Chugging along.

I must say that with the low yield of SSDC, I wish I had a ton of those seeds to grow (I have 8). I will be running another one as soon as the opportunity presents itself. The quality is top notch. Blows DDA out of the water with potency. DDA is still better flavor, but man oh man, SSDC is potent medicine.

I think that after I finish DDA# 2 I will probably shut this journal down. Interest seems awfully low with everyone and their brother having run these strains before. I will be continuing to update this journal until chop.

Sensi NL x Nirvana NL IBL is working on going into full on flower. This strain will be a winner. A stem rub reveals the smell of skunk. Not sweet or spicy, just skunk.

Sensi NL x GG#4 is taking her sweet time to get started. She is just starting to get a couple of hairs. Stem rub reveals something sweet that I cant quite figure out yet.

The seedlings are just seedlings, all seems well. Roots are already coming out the bottoms of their tiny pots. Cant wait to see how my cross and the TTB turn out. New strains keep things interesting.

Columbian Red Point x Unknown is just being stubborn. Glad I didn't cross her with anything, flowering time is going to be long... She stinks to high heaven of high grade marijuana.

And the oldest gal,DDA# 2. Cruising right along. Stinks just right. Sticky, frosty, purple as can be. I've considered chopping her at 77 days. Seems to be popular, outside of the folks that like to run them for 100. I'm curious if she will even look ready by then. The last one made it just past 12 weeks before I got the bud rot...

That's all for now.

With 8 SSDC seeds you can make enough to last you 10 lifetimes if you wanted to.

Plants are looking great bro!! As soon as I replace my old led with something that works I will be running a closet just for autos. I caught the bug especially after seeing your SSDC. Can't wait to see what Trailer Trash Betty does for you, I'm running something with Trailer Trash Betty in it. At only 26days from sprout she makes my whole house stink even with the carbon scrubber.

I am buying CS on the 1st for just that reason. Self it and cross it with a DDA so I never run out of autos, ever.

I am glad I was able to open your horizon a bit. So many folks shun autos, I say good weed is good weed.

She was a stunted little beauty, wasn't she... made my neighbor take a nap every time he smoked it. Lol. Too bad she was only about a foot tall (totally my fault) and yielded maybe a half ounce.

I just bought a new one (fan and filter). I have TTB and Purple Betty seeds, was told the TTB seeds are getting scarce. Grateful to have the opportunity.

Finally got tracking number for the 110v cob chip I bought from wm. It should be here today. Next door neighbor has some aluminum scrap for me to fashion a heatsink from. I've heard nothing but bad about this driver on board stuff. I've heard fire hazard but no reports of actual fires. I hear they run mighty hot, this I do believe. And I have heard the diodes are pretty much bottom shelf, due to the price I think this is probably accurate as well. It would be nice if I was a little more optimistic...

You never know. It may surprise you. I bought a $30.00 Chinese made LED (300 watts) on eBay that has served me well for over a year raising young plants.
