Taking My Chances With The Devil: Dark Devil Auto & Devil's Crack Auto

The DDA is exquisite and very beautiful.
A very popular strain around here.
Loving the unique and unusual coloration of the buds!

Great pics and grow tips
Thanks. Glad my incessant rambling is being put to good use. I plan to use the DDA to purple up some other strains.

Very very popular stuff. Good medicine.

I thought that my pollen may have been too old by the time I used it on her, She was also very young. There were a few odd caylxes I was inspecting this morning... surprise
:ganjamon:

There are more of these calyxes. I hope I can get at least 10-15 seeds. I made these for someone else to run, very happy that the pollen did it's job.

Plucked 4 more drying calyxes this morning. All 4 are beautiful striped seeds. That makes 7...

Planted 2 (Columbian Red Point x Unknown) x DDA seeds as well as two Trailer Trash Betty seeds. I did not soak them overnight.

Edited to add:

Pots are 9cm nursery pots or something(very small). Medium is all gravel up to the last inch which is recycled coco/perl/verm. The simplest passive hydro ever. Growing these to practice proper pollen harvesting /or test these strains out without overcrowding the tent...

Google 260 watt QB kit........second down is what I run. I have two in my 4x4 tent

I just built one of these on Beez's recomendation ... they have 288s but the 260s are a great price. Bright as fvck too. I bought 1 for my VEG space and it was super easy to build took my time and it took me an hour.

1 of these will do a 4x4 in VEG or a 3x3 in flower 20" from canopy will get you to 1000 ppfd which is pretty good. On par with Timber. I use Timber but have height issues in my VEG space so I wanted something that was cooler for temps and lower profile. This one I can almost attach to the ceiling with clips.

This fits the bill perfectly.

I like your pic of the 2700 -3000 mix that's perfect for flowering.

Let the Dark Devil go all purple.. should take 77ish days. May still have white pistols of some of it but if you hang dry the plant upside down (the whole plant) and let it dry on the hook, all the pistols will be bright orange when its time to trim.

Like this... I just trimmed up a few plants the other day.

Bob you do grow beautiful buds!!

I agree, he certainly does..

Whatever pheno I have turns all purple like the third week in flower. This one is much darker than my last. She ran 12 weeks, before I caught the bud rot. Was trying to make it two more weeks, but that didn't happen.

May still have white pistols of some of it
Due to excessive pollination I had hardly any hairs left of any color, lol.

DDA# 2 looks to be a winner. From my not so accurate math, she is about 8 weeks old today. I will post a good pic of her today. Coloring is almost black or navy blue maybe??? My first seedless DDA...

SSDC on the other hand is 11 weeks old. Rifleman runs them 100-110 days if I remember correctly. Not sure she will make it that long. I am positive that her seeds are all ripe. Kind of just waiting on the buds to finish up (the top is super dense, swollen and the whole plant seems sticky). Considering starting a long "flush" to see if I can bring out some more colors.

Columbian Red Point x Unknown is 8 weeks old today. Stretch has stopped finally. She is going to show me some love in probably 6-8 more weeks.

My Sensi NL x Nirvana NL IBL is cooking right along, while the Sensi NL x GG#4 is a bit less robust but equally beautiful.

No signs from my newest seeds, but that may take a couple days since I didn't follow my own protocol of soaking seeds for 24hrs.

How long did you allow the seeds you bred to dry? A lot of folks say you can pluck them right off the plant and stick them in the ground. That may be true, but I feel the success rate would not be so great. Because i breed so many at a time it allows me to experiment a little. When I'm finished collecting seeds from a particular plant that's when I start counting the drying time. I spread them out on a paper towel on a paper plate and let them just sit there for a week. Then stir them up and go another week. At 3 weeks to 4 weeks is when I've had my best success germinating in hempy solo cups. But I have had a few germinate earlier too, just not at as high a percentage rate.

They've been sitting just a couple of weeks.

I imagine some could pop, but I experimented with some fresher seeds sometime in the first week after chop by doing a soak on a few. None popped a tap root so I decided to let them sit in an uncovered jar with rice in it to dry. About once a day I put the lid on and shake the $ht out of it. The two I planted yesterday I think are more likely to pop.

These Red Point x SSDC seeds are beautiful. I've been plucking them off of the plant here and there. Plucked 5 more this morning putting me at 12 total. Not one has been premature. She was pollinated via qtip and poorly stored pollen 1 week after DDA#1.

Seeds reach a point where they are easily removed from the calyx. You don't have to "pull" them to get them off.

Hmmm, didn't mean for it to sound as though I was being violent about it. When I gently pinch the calyx the seed starts to pop itself out, the skin kind of flakes off.

There are more on her, but the ones I am plucking are visibly ripe before i do the pinch method. I can't afford to lose these seeds to the gravel that is similar in size/color

I didn't mean when you pull seeds off. I was talking about when I harvest seeds. The more mature the seed the easier it is to pluck them off the plant. I think for me the best indicator is when the calyx sheath slips off the seed with ease.

I do a very vigorous pinch and roll test. I didn't really harvest the seeds at all. Just rolled doobies with what was left of the flower and sorted seeds as they fell out.

What tricked me a bit was dark seeds that squished and a few really white big ones that I would have needed pliers to crush. I did observe that mature seeds roll faster and bouce further than others. I imagine that is because of the shell being solid

Didn't feel much like labeling each photo. No need to be redundant...

Started flushing the SSDC today. 1/2 gallon of tap water with two caps full of h2o2

Some glamour shots. Will probably flush one more time and let her die in the corner for 3-5 days... someone else uses a similar method so I thought it might be fun to try. Experiments are what keeps things exciting.

Also it was time to rotate things. The 2 Trailer Trash Betty and 2 of my DDA crosses have germinated. :ganjamon: Bags come off tomorrow or the next day...

Ya, I am sure.. 84 days old. The flash photography makes her look like she has many more white pistils than there are in reality. The loup says 80% cloudy to 20% clear on the Trichomes. Buds are rock hard and foxtailing. Seeds are ripe (more than I expected ) as well.

Speaking of ripe seeds, here are a few I have been plucking from SSDC. Very healthy.
And I had to do some organizing this evening. I still have another 71 seeds from several different strains not listed here. They need to be transferred to identical labeled bags, then I will include them.

Gathering quite a collection.

Shoot... forgot a pic of my Red Point x DDA seed container. Never grow them all in a lifetime.

Chop is close for the SSDC. I wonder if it is possible that the long nights ripen autos faster? I do understand that they dont initiate flowering according to light hours but instead a chronological internal hormone timer thingy. My hypothesis is based on very few facts, mostly a strong gut feeling.

DDA#1 was ripe long before I chopped her at 87 days I think it was. Was told SSDC has about the same lifespan of right around 100 days, and here I am at 85 days and she is ready for the most part (amber trichs dont concern me, just the cloudy).

My Columbian Red Point x Unknown is flowering pretty tough right now. I say that at this point she is perpetually 6-8 weeks from finished. Not knowing the mother of this seed gives me nothing go by but the long flower time of Punto Rojo.

Things are starting to look a bit lively with the next gals. Sensi NL x GG#4 and Sensi NL x Nirvana NL IBL are doing great. The NL x NL IBL is a very sturdy plant with an excellent root system, seems hungry. While the NL x GG#4 is nearly the same size as her kin, the roots seem to not be as vigorous and the stem much much thinner. However as I said, both are moving on up in the world...

And then the babies. Day one after two days from planting. No 24 hrs soaking. Just straight into the pot. Not my M.O. but I thought I would give it a shot and it worked fine. So the babies are 2x Trailer Trash Betty and 2x (Columbian Red Point x Unknown) x DDA. Both regular photoperiod seeds. I have to grow these out so I can give those crosses of mine a solid name and collect some of that TTB pollen for my next project.

Nice looking sacks of seed there buddy! Now I see why you're running in small containers.

DDA for me usually is a 70-77 day strain. For AUTOs I never really look at the trichomes I look at the calendar and the pistol shape. Once the Calyx look like they are ripe = chop. Many of the Calyx that are at the stems / base of the petiole those will start to recede (get smaller) first well before the calyx in the flowers. Thats my sign.

I've grown out lots of AUTO strains and they just "look" done ... its usally pretty obvious. Plants tipping over, leathery fans & plant looks about dead! Chop day.

I tried to seed some AUTO plants with pollen, I chopped them too soon and didn't get any viable seed. Not sure why that happened... maybe pollinated too late?? How soon do you pollinate your AUTO strians?
