Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL - LED

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Just to drive the point home....these are the most recent picture of my garden. Nothing has been pH'd for years, but I do have to cut with fresh soil every few runs to keep things balanced.

It tastes like wet dog.....and I get a notice from the water company that it's non-potable all the time. I have a big filter and an RO system, but even with that setup, I get ppm of 50-60 AFTER going through the RO!

It's a long story, but I'm in an industrial park that has its own water district and the company hired to manage the water isn't doing a very good job and on top of that we're in a record drought so the aquifer hasn't had fresh water in it for a long time.

I can't get more than 4 runs on my soil without cutting in some virgin Promix due to the water. BUT IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PH! And even with the bad water the plants do halfway decent.

OMG Doc! That garden. Be still my heart. :laughtwo::green_heart:

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

I have to interject here, ever so gently aki, that the soil we play in doesn't grow plants that show deficiencies. Think of the possibilities if I could convince you to try just one pot in your garden. Not that I'm pushing or anything. :laughtwo:

Show of hands.

Who among us has had deficiencies show up in your organic soil grows? I want brutal honesty here please. If you had problems I would appreciate some explanation of how you overcame them.

Ever since I put down the meters and bottles and transplanted into LOS, no more issues and in fact the longer that original soil lives the better my plants look. Seriously no joke... take a look at my journal pics - last page at the btm - regular lighting. Compare to CO's pics. They look very similar and all VERY VERY healthy.

CO asked me one time; "would you put that fertilizer in your veggie garden?"

Answer: "Hell no, why would I need to add fertilizer"... ding!

That was a real eye opener, light went off in my brain; I never added fertilizer to my outdoor gardens, only compost. What was I thinking??

We've got raised bed LOS soil amended with nothing but Vermicompost out doors.

Bottom line - a living soil with a healthy soil food web will grow the plants for you without effort. It's all about building a better soil. The longer you leave that soil community undisturbed, the stronger it becomes and the more efficiently it performs. You have to be willing to think long term with LOS. I remind myself of something BlueJay once said about teas becoming incidental in a thriving no-till, because with a seriously dialed in LOS every time you water, the soil itself becomes a tea.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Never even bought a meter. The plants never skipped a beat. It's the soil. There's ample science to back up the lack of necessity to PH when you have an active soil food web working on your behalf. I believe the problem you ran into may have had more to do with pot size Reg. A well-balanced LOS needs the soil volume to function properly, and as far as I can see that means a 3 gallon minimum. You do amazing things with your 2 liters. I'm always in awe of your grow. That woman of your is talented. :laughtwo::green_heart:

there are limits to the power of the soil foods web... acid rain has done some horrible things to pine forests.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

True Rad, but I'm hoping acid rain will not be a concern in my tiny closet.

I'm a dreamer. I dream of a day when we learn to clean up the atmosphere and keep it that way. You never know what's just around the corner. Just hopelessly optimistic for the future.

PRIZE PACKAGE!!!

I came home today, wandering around the quiet apartment, putting away food I hope I eat this time, when I remembered my brother (also lives in the building) had called to say a package had arrived. Well, I'm expecting more than one package, so I wander down after a while and pick it up.

Oooooo, I think I know what this one is. :slide:

YES!!! The Magical Butter Machine!!!

I am overwhelmed daily that I was elected MOTM. I relish that responsibility. What I got most excited about after that honor was THIS machine. There are caramels in my family's future. What they've been waiting for me to do all along. I know, I know. It's possible to make butter without this lovely machine, but honestly - if you knew you had one of these coming wouldn't you wait? :laughtwo:

Let's open her up.

Absolutely beautiful!!!

Wow! This is one high quality machine. It almost made me cry for joy, knowing I'll have years of use helping my family ingest the finest medication I can grow for them. I say "almost" because the reality is that right now I'm giggling like a fool and dancing the dance of joy. :laughtwo::green_heart:

Ooooo, lavender butter. Oh yeah! Oh wow! You can make oils and tinctures! I didn't realize that. Oh the possibilities.

I'm once again humbled by the positive impact this community has had on my life and the lives of my family. How can words ever say enough?

:Namaste:

Oh the frustration for a man known for his word smithing. Life can be so cruel. LOL!

Laughing with you Rad.

It's an incredibly beautiful machine. It oozes quality. Smooth, sleek lines. I keep caressing it. :laughtwo:

Life is sweet.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Congratulations, SweetSue! May you make many great recipes with it.

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

So happy for you Sue! I can't wait to see your caramels!

I've never made candy before Jade, so I'm just a bit nervous. There's a lot on the line here. No margin for error. Like that ever stopped me before. :laughtwo::green_heart:
