Weekly Update: Clone Cuttings and Vegging Girls - Friday, January 12, 2018
Sleet pelting the window. This afternoon was warm enough to go out in a light jacket. Don't you love a dynamic planet?
Let's get to it. Starting with the cuttings. It's cooler over in this corner in winter. There's no breeze coming through the window, but the whole place is cooler in winter, and that means things root slower. Thankfully, nothing over here is absolutely essential. I'm getting close to setting up a different area in a slightly warmer zone.
Black DOG She's been in the plug for 17 days, and although she looks rough around the edges, at closer examination there's plenty of life left in her, and I don't have her on any kind of schedule. If she does pull through I can get another cutting from J, but for now I'm content with how things are developing.
I've had them look worse than this and in the end turn into huge trees.
CBD Critical Cure 2.8 (Day 1) Just a couple days ago I opened her up and she was looking much greener and had no roots showing.
Well....time to pot her up.
This chemovar does so well in perlite I'll keep going with that medium. She's sitting near the floor overnight after recieving her first drench at 1/4 strength.
By next week she'll look like a completely different plant.
No roots yet on any of the casual cloners.
Devil's Carnival 1.4 (Day 12) She's still growing roots, and not doing much of anything else. So far she's had water only. I'm passing this one on to Jgrow, so I don't want to get too deep into the kit, although.....it has occured to me that I could let him run her with kit soil and supplies, to get a feel for what the kit does and how it compares to what he's using. That way it won't matter how long I keep her around. I don't want to send her to her new home until I know she's strong enough to guarantee his success. He has all my old LOS supplies though, and the best I can do is an ACT.
Hmmm....
That's actually not such a bad idea. I bet I have something else I could add under the workbench......I'll take a look, see what I can do for her with the next watering. She's in kit soil, so she's good for a while, regardless.
I figure a couple more weeks and it'll be safe to let her travel.
Candy Cane 4 (Day 15) She had a Transplant drench four days ago. Nothing much going on here above ground yet. She has new growth peeking out, so the show's about to begin.
Devil's Carnival 1.3 (Day 19) I changed her age to reflect the day she was potted up instead of the day she was clipped from the mother.
I like this girl. Her perky, punky do appeals to me.
I keep looking at her and thinking she needs to be topped or bent over, and then I remember that it doesn't matter, because I'm going to cut her all the way back to just a couple nodes in another couple weeks and let her start again. I want to see if I can replicate the beautiful structure her mother displayed. I probably won't get her through flowering before outdoor temps moderate, so the colorful leaf display we all enjoyed before last week's harvest probably won't reappear.
She had her first Energy drench four days ago. One of these days I'll get these girls Brixed. Foliars and I just can't seem to get on the same page.
There's the new growth we were all wondering about.
CBD Critical Cure 3 (Day 40) Ahhh..... She's got the roots she needed to start going verticle and filling out.
She's the reason I'm unconcerned about CBD CC 2.8 looking so ragged coming out of the bag. This girl will do well and keep us in meds as the next one comes up behind.
While I was drenching her on the 8th I remembered she's a seedling, and that means topping her will give me that many more tops. So I clipped the two leaders off. Today the new sprouts are looking hearty.
Another couple weeks, max, and she'll be ready for her final pot.
Red Diesel (Day 62) She has such a pretty structure. I've been clipping off the leaders to keep her somewhat level, and it appears to be working well. Her next drench will probably be tomorrow, and I'll make it an Energy, since her last was a Transplant drench. The new schedule for the kit plants in veg is drench, drench, TransWater, repeat.
When I shifted the shelf around to get her lower I noticed she's almost bone dry, although you wouldn't be able to tell from the looks of her. This is a hearty chemovar.
She reminds me of a little beech tree we had in our yard. Lol!
Carnival 4.6 (Day 61) Yesterday was her big day, upcanned into 7 gallons with a TransWater drench - and thank you Stage for that encouragement. I almost went for a 5 gallons, and that would have been a mistake. She sits in tent #3, where she'll veg for another month before I flip.
She's become such a delight - three little plants in one.
Interesting arrangement, eh? I've never had anything like this happen before, so I don't know what to expect, but it looks to me like shes's gonna grow like mad.
I opened the tent up this morning and she was praying all over the place. Tell me she doesn't look rediculously happy.
I'll be starting another sponsored journal for GROWant covering this girl. I was planning on purchasing two more small panels so I could double up on the tents and George has offered me a special price for the GR480 panel instead to reflect their plan to give me another GR240 so I could demonstrate how effective two of them could be in a 27"x 27" tent. Since the GR480 is essentially two GR240s he thought it made more sense to offer me this price and I could both demonstrate how those two panels worked together and how the GR480 performs.
I couldn't be more thrilled to increase lighting in both tents this quickly. I was expecting it to take longer to secure resources for two more panels. My plan was one at a time. This feels happier.
The panel will be ordered on Wednesday and the other journal will begin when it arrives.
OK, I have some flowering girls to update too. See you in a few.
