SweetSue's Cannabis Oil Study Hall

Wow on the Jewelweed. I googled this yesterday when I seen it here. Just stopping in this morning to say thanks for that and wish everyone a happy Labor day. Be safe and good vibes out to all.

Oh yeah, Ms. Sue. I just want you know that I have been following this journal since I came here n May. I suffer from nerve pain and paralysis on the left side of my body. Skin grafts on the right side. From a fishing accident Oct. 2014. After 3 months in the hospital and being told I'd never walk again I was released. No insurance. No Social Security. I never had work that paid into it.
So I was out with 3 days of pain meds and various others. Long story short I drank harder than I ever had in my life. Kicked the narcs and have since found piece in our beloved plants. I have always smoked n had an outdoor garden. Somewhat cared for.
Now things are different. I started my first indoor grow in June. With the help of Far Easy Buds and BillyBlazes, both active 420 members. Both awesome fellas.
Starting the beginning of October I will begin harvesting perpetually. Yay for us all !
Anyhow what I'm getting at is with the help of this community I have been gifted a better life through no small effort of my own. I can walk to a mile straight now and have adapted to life and somehow getting the bills paid eeking out a comfortable and happier life.
Thank you for having this thread and expect me soon to be getting involved.

Jacob, that was the best start to my new day I could have hoped for. Thank you for sharing that. :hugs:  I'm excited for you. When you pull down that first harvest you'll feel such a sense of empowerment. I'm still figuring out how to get perpetual to work for me, but that's because I'm flighty and prone to travel on a whim. I don't think that's such a bad thing, but it's hell on a perpetual. :laughtwo:

I hope you're growing something with a higher ratio of CBD in that garden Jacob. Your nerve damage alone cries out for this invaluable cannabinoid. I love a story that begins with "They told me I'd never......." :laughtwo:

You just keep proving them wrong Jacob. :hugs:

Seven strains aquired over the last 3 months and have never checked. Duh. Lol
So I'll do that. But my intentions are to be able to afford buying the strains I need and want around November or Dec.
P.s. My wife was on heavy medication for 14 years. 30 pills a day. Not any more. Almost a year since her last pill. Our lives are changing every day.
Looking forward to doing this. Maybe we can collaborate at a later time for any recomendations strain specific.
I value the input of other here on 420 as well. So chime in ladies and gentleman.
Thanks Sue

I know about this, I live in Crete, Greece...here they make best olive oil in the world. I know for sure my olive oil is just that!
Things people do to make money goes beyond me.

If you need me to send you any oil let me know :)

Thank you Birdie,

My local store carries 4 or 5 brands from Greece, any brand recommended Birdie?
I've spent time in Athens, about a week while backpacking for four months across Europe in 1978! Damn hippies.

Thanks

Keith

Dear Sue,

Thank you for everything that you do. You have made this my first stop in my daily routine.

I'm lost in all the posts and the journals. Which recipe have you been using recently for the capsules? I remember reading you say that there were two ways to decarboxylate, one was dry buds in the oven at 220 F and the other was...?...

So she is not at all interested in the high, just pain relief. Do I have to decarboxylate to get pain relief?

My grandmother suffers from arthritis and she is open to the idea of the capsules or a salve. Harvest is right around the corner here in Oregon.

Anything from Crete??
The olive oil scandal is 99% Italian?!

You only went to Athens?? all the hippies were down here smoking the best weed grown on earth at the time :)

Why thank you supergroomer. This is wonderful to know. FYI, there's a plant that grows in wet areas called "Jewel Weed". Google it. This plant is the natural antidote for poison ivy. You'll often find them growing side-by-side in the wild, along stream beds. Break the stalk open like you do with aloe and slather it on the affected area. It'll stop poison ivy in its tracks in your bloodstream within seconds of applying it.

One of the prettiest wildflowers you can find too. When you see one you'll understand the name.

Awesome info Sue. I Googled it and realized I've got it growing all over my property. Which makes sense since my place is also covered in poison ivy and oak. It'll go great in my wife's soap as well. My wife was ecstatic when I showed her what it was. She had heard about it but didn't know we had any.

I'm so glad to hear this Morglie. :battingeyelashes:  Those invaluable bits of herbology that got tossed aside when pharmaceuticals took over the world are important to get out there again. The first time you try this you'll be amazed at how it's instantly effective. Spread the word.

Do you know about comfrey? It's called Knitbone for its ability to heal bone on a cellular level. One of the most valuable medicinal herbs out there. There's so much we've forgotten.

I am sorry to butt in.. but with the arthritis.. only a slave/cream would help at first I think.

Yeah, basice herb cures..lost due to MONEY is so sad.
I have lived with IBS for 16 + years.. and survived due to "investigation" of herbs and remedies.. instead of "medicine./I still say .. any native with a medicine man...= 1000% treasure :) :circle-of-love:

That would depend on the type of Arthritis, Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis are very different.

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative condition that is the result of increased wear and tear on joints, i.e. not a disease.
Rheumatoid Arthritis is an autoimmune disease that produces inflammatory symptoms throughout the body.

RA is systemic, OA is localized.

I'll have to take some pictures of their shelf stock, I can't remember what was for breakfast so I know I don't remember the brand names! I did see Greece printed on a about 5 Olive Oil labels, I'll check next trip.

I tried to see a major city in each country, but Crete wasn't on the list. American hippie tourist! I did live on a street in the US named Crete St. for a year. Lots of good smoke across Europe during my travels in 1978, hard to pick a favorite. I still don't have a favorite one, depends on my mood and the desired effect. No Cannabis bigotry here!:thedoubletake:

Thank you lazyfish, it's a driving passion.

It depends on the type of pain you're dealing with that determines which cannabinoid will be most effective. From the dosing thread:

CHRONIC PAIN

This is the most common condition for which cannabis is being used. It usually requires round-the-clock dosing for adequate pain management.

* Choose sublingual or edibles for the longer-lasting effects and the deeper intensity.

* THC amplifies the effects of opioids. Combine the two and you can begin to wean off the opioids.
- Taking as little as 1 mg of THC prior to an opiate dose will improve the potency of the opiate and extend the therapeutic window. You should never let an opioid pass your lips before you take a small dose of cannabis.

* THC is an analgesic (a pain reliever)

* CBD doesn't treat pain directly, but rather positively effects inflammation and neuropathy.

* A dosing strategy: Use a 1:1 ratio of CBD:THC with low psychoactivity during the day and an indica for nighttime dosing.

* A good starting point is 10-20 mg of cannabinoids 3x/day.

Treating different types of pain
* Nerve pain = THC and CBD, either alone or together
* Muscular pain = THC
* Bone pain = THC + CBD
* Inflammatory pain = THCA or THC I don't know why Dr. Malka didn't include it in her course, but CBD is a major player in the inflammatory realm, moreso than THC.
* Skeletal pain and internal muscle spasms = CBD

If you don't decarb you're getting mostly acid cannabinoids. They're therapeutic, sure enough, just not in the same pain-relieving way we expect to get from cannabis. Both THC and CBD require decarboxylation to be effective pain meds. However, I heartily endorse inclusion of acid cannabinoids into the diet, and juicing appears to be the best way to get them into the system.

In my opinion, the more variety you can offer the ECS the better.

We recently reworked the biobomb recipe to make them more potent, and that's the recipe I'd follow if you're dealing with a serious disease.

I modified this formula just a bit to make the lecithin volumes easier to deal with. If anyone sees any problems with it, please speak up.

BioBomb capsules

The reworked numbers:

20:1 = 1 ml CCO + 18 ml carrier oil + 2 ml lecithin

21 capsules with approx. 45 mg cannabinoids per capsule

10:1 = 1 ml CCO + 9 ml carrier oil + 1 ml lecithin

11 capsules of approx. 80 mg cannabinoids per capsule.

5:1 = 1 ml CCO + 5 ml carrier oil + .5 ml lecithin.

7 capsules having approx. 150 mg cannabinoids per capsule.

If you're treating lessor maladies you could consider the modified mix I use for recreational. The difference is that you don't change the amount of lecithin or additional carrier oil you add after getting your ratioed mix of Carrier Oil:CCO. To this recipe you always add another 45 ml of carrier oil and 15 ml of liquid sunflower lecithin. This formula stretches the oil further and for many treatments it's quite effective.

If you're looking for an oil extraction, you have the option of working wet or dry. I have a post to get up on my disastrous wet run yesterday that'll have some warnings attached. That ratio is 400 grams of fresh plant material to 500 ml of oil.

Working dry a good starting ratio is one gram of good-quality plant material to every ounce of oil. This is the ratio supergroomer uses to great effect in his oils. The ratio I used for my wet run heavy-duty capsules was equivalent to about 2.5 grams per ounce. As you can see, the ratios are flexible to your needs.

If you're treating lessor maladies the oil extractions are an attractive option. In my opinion they're easier to process and they stand a better chance of retaining more terpenes and flavonoids.

It's a lot of information, but it's only intimidating at first. Don't hesitate to keep asking until you have the answers you're comfortable with. I have no problem with hashing things out. It's kinda what we do here. :battingeyelashes:

"Cannabis bigotry" :laughtwo: The olive oil scandal is all Italian, to my understanding. Olive oil made in the US is said to be untainted. When I purchase olive oil anymore I check the label to see where it was produced. I also understood that it was the "Extra Virgin" oils that went for premium prices that they were corrupting. I wouldn't want to attract karma that dangerous into my life, and it befuddles me that they persist, now that we're all aware that it's going on.

Hey Sue, how's it going this evening?

I've got a question for you. Tomorrow I will harvest the OGK clone. We want to use her to make oil. What's the best way to make cco with a whole fresh plant?
Finally someone asks the question I've been wanting to ask but couldn't until I harvested my big Pineapple Chunk. 2 zips maybe. Anyhow thank you Canna. And for some strange reason I'm thankful it was you that did. Maybe because I follow y'alls journal so much.
Ty.

Thanks Jake! I haven't run into this luxury yet. I'm happy we did. Lol! Good seeing you tonight!

Hey guys, I want to have a go at making some CCO. Without me having to read through the entire thread from the beginning, could someone direct me to the step by step process?

Very good to see you as well Ms. Canna. I appreciate that:passitleft:. Lemme put this out :joint: n I'll take a rip o that there:passitleft:

Use the technique I used with the Med GOM 1.0. That's PsyCro's olive oil extraction, but it can be done with coconut oil for a faster hit of euphoria if this is for recreational use.

The basic formula is 400 grams of plant material to 500 ml of oil.

- Chop the plant up into small buds.

- Blend the oil and the plant material together. PsyCro tells me he does this in the pot with an immersion blender. He starts with the oil and then adds the plant material a little at a time until it's all incorporated. In his directions he mentions that he uses the immersion blender because it was the only way he could get that much plant material into that small quantity of oil.

- Place the container with the mash into an oil bath. I used canola for the high heat tolerance. Learn from my mistake and use metal or Pyrex for the container that holds the plant material. We don't need a repeat of this:

image16840.jpeg

- Bring the temperature of the oil up slowly. The water in the plant will begin to boil out. When it's finished doing that you need to keep a close eye on the temperature of the mash. Check the temperature of the mash every five minutes from the beginning for the first run. Next run you'll have a better feel for what you're watching for. You'll see the bubbles change from water boiling off to decarboxylation bubbles. I did a lot of stirring during the two hours, but it was mostly out of curiosity. :laughtwo:

When you hit 212 degrees F start the timer. From this point it'll be two hours.

- Get the temperature up to 225 degrees F and keep it close to that. If it gets too high turn the heat off and remove the pot until the temps stabilize.

- At two hours you're done. Add lecithin at a rate of 1 TBS/cup of oil. Refrigerate overnight, bring to room temperature and fill your capsules.

I'm pretty sure that's everything. It's really a delightfully straight-forward approach. I think it may be my favorite oil so far and I see great potential for it.
