SweetSue's Cannabis Oil Study Hall

Hey Sue, hope you have recovered from your trip.

A quick question... you noted a while ago some study that linked some Cannabinoid (I think pinene?) with coughing.

Do you know more about this? Can you link me to the study?

Thanks

From an industrial safety sheet on pinene.

Health Hazard
Harmful if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through skin. High concentrations are extremely destructive to mucous membrane and upper respiratory tract, eyes and skin. Symptoms of exposure may include burning sensation, coughing, wheezing, laryngitis, shortness of breath, headache, nausea and vomiting. (USCG, 1999)

I'm still on the first page, wanted to drop a comment so I can find this again. I lost my cousin about 4 years ago to cancer, watching the long process of her death forever changed me and my family. In the end the smoke I wound sneak her at the hospital was the only thing that would relieve the pain. I wish I would have known more then, maybe in the future I can help someone else.

Welcome odinmaster. Many of us have been in that same frustrating position. Try not to beat yourself up about it. We're eternal beings, and your cousin would be most happy with your letting it go.

Enjoy the journey through the pages, but please, don't feel you have to read all the way through. This is a brainstorming space, so much of it is scattered and somewhat disjointed. We encourage questions. :cheesygrinsmiley:

KR, it was like a light went off over my head! This explains why my daughter reacts so dramatically to pine oil. She's incredibly sensitive to pinene.

We lost my mother-in-law a few years ago too. There's a bittersweetness to my successful treatment knowing now that we could have saved her. Passing on what I know is the best therapy for that loss. Spreading the word that cannabis treats cancer helps too. Everyone I work with knows I beat cancer with cannabis and I get people asking me every week how it works. Plus my relatives, friends, facebook connections and all the doctors I still have to see. This movement is growing like a pyramid and that brings me joy.

I wonder if its pinene that causes the nasty allergic reaction if I brush my skin against pine boughs.

GW is also hugely allergic to pine needles and to ragweed. Both produce similar swelling of the throat and cough. I wonder if ragweed has pinene.

I'm going to start logging which strains produce cough and which do not. I will also see if there are any analyses of the strain to show pinene content.

I'll let you know what we discover.

I bought the cannabis oil for the cats! I tried it on 1 of my kitty cats but she didn't really like the smell so she won't just take it straight aeay. Might drip it on some cheese or some ham!

Hi rik, just catching up here.
I give my own home made canna infused coconut oil on my cats tuna. He is getting wise to this so we may need to change it up again. He also gets medicine for hyper thyroid on his tuna treat and special food for healthy kidneys.
My cat has not had a seizure in over six months.

And I just bought a 3 in 1 vaporizer! Which is nice!

3 in one sounds like a nice one. I have an original PAX that never gets used. I would love to get into making e-juice for a vape for my wife.

Well at this point I gave it to all 3 of my cats. One of them is scared all the time and we never knew where the anxiety came from... So I took a little piece of ham, put 2 drops of 2.5% CBD oil on it and the cat ate it! She reacted quiete happy and calm which is nice to see! The other 2 cats reacted only happy on it and starting rolling and playing around with everything so Cannabis oil definetly works!

And yeah the vaporizer! I'm actually pretty excited about it because apperently you can just use your own homemade Cannabis oil and e-liquid with it. I just learned how to make olive oil based Cannabis oil and I also want to know how to make e-liquid but apperently it isn't that hard.

Thanks for your comment Keltic!

Hey Shawnee, DarkStar is definitely on my list! I grew Blue Dream last grow, but it didn't do much for me. It wasn't my best effort - not sure what happened but the test results were low.

MICHIGAN RELIEF HUB (/CLIENT/667) Machine: Gas Chromatography
Test Date: 09/21/2016 Method & Instrument: Pests: No. Mold: No
Test Compounds CBDV 0.0, THCV 0.1, CBC 0.1, CBD 0.0, Δ8 THC 0.0, Δ9 THC 9.6, CBG 0.0, CBN 0.0 TOTAL Cannabinoids 9.8%

I had multiple strains tested. There were inconsistencies in the results. I addressed this with the dispensary who was the go-between and they said others had raised similar concerns. So not sure how accurate the results were.

I grew BD again this time. The product looked, smelled and felt much better. This time I went to a new lab (TheSpot in Kalamazoo) and here are the results. Note this test used UPLC (Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography) which does not heat the product. The Spot uses 0.877% as the factor to approximate the TCHA to THC conversion. So THCA at 17.376% times .877 = an estimated 15.24% THC. Not sure if one needs to add in the initial THC level: 0.403%.

Thanks for the info!

Hi Mike,

I recently acquired another high CBD strain called Cannatonic, born and bred in our great state, and winner of 2 Cannabis Cups in Clio, MI.
Believe it or not, our state has a global reputation for the highest CBD strains on the planet......who knew....

I was just gifted a seed of "Shark Shock" from a 420 member, another high CBD strain.....I'm loving it.....I am a sativa girl but my patients are leading me into the indica world....it's all good....

Question: lecithin and liposomal encapsulation

Somewhere in this gargantuan forum I remember reading about using lecithin to improve the bioavailability of the cannabinoids in cannabis oil. Here, or elsewhere, I have seen two methods described: one involves mixing liquid lecithin with CO and its carrier and storing the mixture in the fridge for a few months before it's ready; the other method involves heating the mix for 30-60 minutes and then it's good to use as soon as it's cooled.

Could someone kindly direct me into a thread where I can see the recommended method & recipe here, please?

I find that liquid lecithin is almost unattainable where I live (Australia), though it is easy to find granulated lecithin derived from soy or from eggs. If you are not vegan, does it matter where it originates?

Thanks!

Quick response because I'm on my tablet and don't have all my bookmarks. But if you go back a few pages i posted link to Sue's Bio Bomb blog.

Lecithin has to be liquid. The dried form loses the part that makes it work for bioavailabilty. As far as source ofq lecithin I think it's mostly a social moral issue. Soy is almosr always gmo for pesticide tolerance, which adds obvious health concern. But it absolutely has to be liquid lecithin.

And welcome to 420.:welcome:

I make a glycerine tincture from time to time. It is very sweet tasting. I keep a small 1oz dropper bottle when I can't use other means. A couple droppers and I am good for a bit. I infuse it the same way as an oil, 1g per oz. Decarb, crush up, add to glycerine with 1T of liquid sunflower lecithin per cup, and cook for 4 hours @ 200. Strain and you are good to go. (Carefully strain while hot. It is much harder to do after it has cooled.
This is interesting to hear, SuperGroomer. I went searching ....

But what is glycerin, really?
Glycerin is a neutral, sweet-tasting, colorless, thick liquid which freezes to a gummy paste and which has a high boiling point. Glycerin can be dissolved into water or alcohol, but not oils. On the other hand, many things will dissolve into glycerin easier than they do into water or alcohol. So glycerin is a good solvent.

So I'm somewhat surprised that you say that your cannabis oil disolves in the glycerin, in light of the above statement that glycerin won't dissolve in oil. Perhaps the key here is the lecithin. Without it, you may find that your cannabis and glycerine might soon separate?

The sweetness of the glycerine can't be a bad thing—sweetness without sugar—given the unappealing taste of cannabis oil.

I do not make it with CCO. I infuse it from flower or trim, the same way you would butter or oil for cooking. :circle-of-love::peace:

You'd be best to look into this quite carefully. From what I understand from your posting, you imagine that you can add you oil to the vegetable glycerine and the propylene glycol and make canna ejuice. This is NOT the case. You must infuse your cannabis into VG and use that VG in making your canna ejuice.

I have been making my own regular ejuice for some time now and have looked extensively into how to make canna ejuice for myself. There are several YouTube videos on how to do this. The one from Ruffhouse Studios seems to me to be the best one. Take a look at it and it will help you.

Best,
Magnus.

Thanks Magnus! This actually helped me out but I still have to learn how to do stuff properly and I don't really know what glycerine and the other stuff actually does so I'll have to look at that. as far as I know you can just make your oil with olive oil and alcohol (still need to know exacly wich alcohol is the best) and that the oil you then get out of it, can also be used in the vaporizer.

So a little update on my oil making. I am going to make RSO (Rick Simpson Oil) most of you already know what it is. I bought good 5 liter Isopropyl alcohol for just 35 euro's. Now I'll just have to wait one week or maybe 2 weeks before I can harvest my plant and then get my ass in gear and work on some oil!

I hear ya girl. Lol! I'll tell you, I'm missing the CBD capsules myself. I'm running right to the edge with my daughter's supply. Need to get the CBD Critical Cure into flower this weekend. I thought I'd be growing big sativas for myself. :laughtwo: How times change.
