Stunger's Organic Soil Stealth Balcony: Landrace Mulanje & Other Sativas

Hey stunger!
Just a heads up, don't mean to be a downer.
Now that your ladies are into preflower you may want to do a herm ball check, unfortunately these Africans as many true landrace sativa can sometime have issue. They would usually show up at the bottom lower smaller branches of the plants usually not severe. I usually do a weekly check through out the flower period. So far on the 4 ladies I am running that I believe is from the same line as yours are perfect!
I pulled one lady today that had just one single ball from my original line of 5 ladies.
I hope that helps!

Hey @Stunger, the girls look amazing. I have a question or two for you. First, thanks for this. This is amazing and a great, detailed post. I know growers who won't give up their soil mix or their amendments, so thanks for sharing. My questions are,
- What was in the soil when the seedlings went in? Anything? Or just microbes? And how and when did you prep these pots for the seedlings if there was any prep to do?
- Since they went in the pots, you have given just water, other than your amendments?

Sorry for pre-6 am questions...Lol. Thank you!
Cheers Jon! Everything I have learnt has come from others who shared. I love these plants and doing what I can to share back seems the right thing to do.

The soil I used for the seedlings I didn't want to be too 'hot', so I mixed some old (probably depleted) soil with some 'living' soil that has been sitting in my compost tumbler for a few years (which has worms in it too). So yes, there would have been microbes etc in the soil used for seedlings.

Once up-potted to their final pots, the only amendments I gave was noted in the above top dressing post. Every day I water them, usually with some worm wee included. So far in their lives on just 2 occasions (3 at the most), I have added to their waterings, a splash of Humic/fulvic acids, a dash of Kelp extract, and a dash of Fish Hydrolysate. That's it!
Getting exciting!!!
It especially is for outdoor growing, such a long wait for the growing season to come around again!

Thanks tropics, that's a good point and I'll do a check for that! :nerd-with-glasses:

Interesting read.

Might want to start cutting that males branches and moving them somewhere to collect pollen. Pop into glass of water and put a mirror under the glass. They will open in a couple of days but the pollen will be somewhat more contained and not destroy your and others crops. Happy harvesting. Your balcony is looking superb. Also early flower here. Cheers

Thanks Lerugged, great suggestion to cut off and isolate some branches over a mirror to collect pollen, I will do that soon and that way I can stagger the collecting a little. The Mulanje is already kicking into flowering, but then she was germinated nearly 4 months ago. Previously for seed making, I found end of February to the start of March to be close to an optimum time when there is a lot of fresh pistils to catch the pollen and presumably make more seeds. The Mulanje does stand out from the others, not just because she is the biggest, but she is the only one that was hexlined out, which unlike the other 3 that were LST'ed, all her potential cola stems are growing up vertically, and it's just wonderful to have a grow to watch at this stage!

How u doing stunger. Becareful of pigeons they crap on weed plants . Get awlfull smell to them lmao. Jk. How u doing bro
Good thanks Dust. Yes I have caught a pigeon on a past grow that tried to alight on the canopy of one of my plants, they are definitely banned from the balcony. I hope you are well and enjoying the weekend, hopefully with some suitable bud enhancement on hand!

Pictorial update

We had some rain overnight and today, the first for a long time. I can see bud setting is getting established, the plants are growing fast!

Hello Stunger!
Man I was counting thirty on your supper lady!
This is my orig Mulanje Gold repro
Four ladies out of 5 for repro the 5th one threw a ball so compost Three look pretty standard but the odd squat one is Coming on fast with flower and trichs and smelling like super pineapple candy! I already today knocked up the five of her lowers, just under the red tie with a strong pungent boy.
Started outdoors Dec 19th. The other thing I am really liking about this early one is outdoors the top pistils were a cream/pink color the pink pistils have faded since I brought her in under lights.

Cheers tropics - your experience with these sativas is very inspiring!
Sweet plants.
Thanks Dust
Highest and best use for that balcony for sure!
Cheers Shed, 3 out of 4 of those criteria ain't bad I guess ;)

Minor update, mostly pictorial

Greetings 420 enthusiasts! The flowering season is underway and every day brings noticeable changes, especially to me because I love to look at them multiple times a day!

Today I did a little bit of a tidy up to the 3 LST girls which brought their height down fractionally.

The hexlined Mulanje is still stretching and as I like her so much I would prefer not to do further training on her because her potential colas look like they'll be substantial in length and I would prefer to let her go for it. But I will of course step in if she gets too belligerent with her height!

The view from the side window

The front view to show the horizontal stealth height perspective

The 2 right most plants

I am unable to open the left most doors where the balcony is narrower due to the canopies taking up the space, and when trying to photograph through the glass I tend to get too many reflections, so here is a pic of just the 2 right most plants where I can still open the doors.

Thanks for swinging by folks, may your gardens be blooming and your buds be wonderful, keep well! :ganjamon:
