Going rain here in morning.Windy day update
The remnants of Cyclone Dovi are passing over the country. It's been quite windy, they had to shut down the local bridge as it was reaching 110 kph, the usual power cuts and tree branches falling on cars.
The balcony plants have been getting hammered by the wind since last night, but it looks as if they'll be mostly ok, no doubt there will be some splits and breaks that I will find when it calms down enough to check on them.
These aren't pretty shots, but just for shits and giggles, to give a bit of an idea of nature's energy from the calm side of the glass!
Thanks for dropping, hopefully your gardens are getting better weather than mine!
Haha, it's certainly been a bad hair day for the balcony girls, but without looking closely they seem mostly ok, thanks!
Ummm...somewhere my math is just not working. Hmmm...<edit> The above quantities are for the smaller 30L (13 gallon) containers. I added a bit extra for the larger 50L (13 gallon) containers.
Amen dude! Right there with you. I've learned in other places, but nowhere as much as here.Everything I have learnt has come from others who shared. I love these plants and doing what I can to share back seems the right thing to do.
I really enjoyed these exchanges. A good reminder about viewing the cultivars for what they are. East to take for granted their true intentions when most things are hybridized nowadays and more stable. Thanks tropics, that's a good point and I'll do a check for that!
Couldn't have said it better.I'm a big fan of all of this. That balcony gets more impressive every time.
Your approach is right where I am at. I love soil. Love getting my hands in it. Love making it from out compost. And the worms! Can't forget about our true plant guardians.Because I like growing in organic living soil, if anything for my grows, I'd say it's mostly down to the soil, which I amend in the off season and try to let it cook/settle for at least 3 months. I feel if the worms and biology are enjoying it then the chances are the plants will too.
Thanks BA, that Mulanje is pushing the height limits, but she is so nice and pretty I'm hoping she soon halts her upward growth so I can just let her fill out without any further training. It'll be very interesting to see how she develops with the already long future cola spears that she has put out.Looking awesome Stung!!! So stoked to see these colas reach your upstairs neighbor's patio. A sight to behold I'm sure.
Whoops, 2 girls are in 30L/8 gallon pots, and the 2 in 50L/13 gallon pots. I blame the poor numeracy on the pot.Ummm...somewhere my math is just not working. Hmmm...
Cheers stinker, to be fair it is right at early flowering, so hopefully if any damage the plants will have heaps of time to put their energy into alternate growth.Wow that looks strong. Blowing sideways and all. They are resilient and can take it. When I have had high winds even hurricane force, most of the damage was limited to ripped leaves. Yours look like they are weathering the storm.
The Mulanje and the Mango sure got Big!
Damn. They look almost so bushy they can take it. But look at the Mulanje (right?) on the end right getting hammered. Wow. Guess it's impossible to mitigate this weather. Wow again.Windy day update

Morning stunger
Morning Dust, thanks, hopefully the wind has just kicked out any unwanted lodgers/bugs and kickstarted the plants for flowering!Plants still looking. Good bro
Thanks Otter, the wind had been going since yesterday and yes, lot of rain was predicted but little seemed to fall here. I think it was drying out the plants as they seemed to be showing signs of wilting, and I was concerned if they got too droopy the whipping around would not help, So I watered them all and it was confirmed when they looked better soon after. CheersTakes a healthy plant to hold up to that! All that wind and no rain huh? We almost always have rain with our wind here. Good luck after!
Cheers Jon, as I mentioned above, the wind surprised me with how much it was dehydrating the plants.Damn. They look almost so bushy they can take it. But look at the Mulanje (right?) on the end right getting hammered. Wow. Guess it's impossible to mitigate this weather. Wow again.
It happens on other side of the world. . be Kool broMorning Dust, thanks, hopefully the wind has just kicked out any unwanted lodgers/bugs and kickstarted the plants for flowering!
It's now morning here too, and I'd better hit the sack.

Thanks tropics! Yes I am hoping the winds have only helped her respond with greater vigor! It is great to hear your experience and knowledge on Mulanje, I am super looking forward to it. Plus the Malawi/Ethiopian x Mulanje cross will be very interesting too What's not to look forward to eh, haha.Hello Stunger
Those winds will help strengthen her for the massive colas she will have to carry! HAHA!
I found out your Mulanje is is a slightly more worked version of Morglies Mulanje from what I was told
I will be really curious if you are going to be getting the same kind of fragrance and flower structure from your lovely lady.
Cheers
