Stunger's Organic Soil Stealth Balcony: Landrace Mulanje & Other Sativas

Damn Stunger, is there anything you HAVEN'T thought of here? The planters are supreme! Great idea that I suppose is a no brainer when you see it. Brilliant. And wow, that Mulanje male thinks it's Sunday every day, doesn't he? Look at him pray!! The balcony is incredible. You have got this thing down to a T. Super impressive and a ton of work I can see. Gotta be getting harder to get in there now, eh? It's gotta get to a point where you can't move or rotate the plants anymore, right? And soon it looks like!
Cheers Jon! Growing in the same spot over time I have found balcony rail planter boxes to be helpful, but because they can block a little light out when the sun gets low I tend to put them up at the last moment.
And lastly, the Turkish splint. Not only is it a cool name I didn't know, it's brilliant. It would also work with the flat popsicle sticks for wide stems.
Yeah nah.. a 'Turkish Splint' is so named because it uses a kebab stick to create a splint either side of the mainstem break. If you use popsicle sticks it would be something different, maybe it would then be more of an 'Icelandic splint'??
Looks like you may need a bigger Balcony! HAHA
Awesome!
Cheers tropics! Getting 3 females from 4 regular seeds was a bonus that didn't help with sharing the space. Plus the former 'mutant', the Mango Sherbert, didn't help things when she was late to the party, now it's standing room only!

Wow the canopies are looking very impressive. The girls are maturing nicely

Another killer balcony garden, and so nice of your family not to want that sunny spot for themselves!
Mulanje male I moved him to the back of the house to be diagonally opposite from the girls
I probably would have cut that down to 2 branches to lessen the odds of unwanted pollination! You're a braver man than I.

:thumb:
Awesome grow mate!! Plants look healthy as. I'm Assuming your an Aussie with plants at that stage outside.
Hey Porky...your avatar is one of my favorite sketches: The boy with an ass for a face.
Icelandic splint
LOL!

Thanks Zeb, it's approaching that time when it all it starts to happen, so far so good!
Looking just splendid @Stunger ! Love seeing the foliage of your plants. They are happy happy!
Thanks BA, I like 'em to look happy so hopefully they'll be good to reach their potential.

Thanks Shed! There is a bigger balcony that gets the sun earlier which the rest of the family can enjoy, but I'd love to fit a few in there too, if only!

I have thought about carrying out a size reduction to the male, but I will probably just let him be as his pollen has to go against the prevailing winds and go right over the whole house to come down on the balcony girls. I'll cut him down once I carry out some selective pollination in about a month's time. Cheers.

General Update

Greetings 420 enthusiasts! It is always heartening and it still surprises me how quickly our favourite plants grow. They should all kick off in the coming weeks as buds start forming. I have tried to take individual photos of the plants today, but they are quite 'jammed in' so to avoid any unwanted damage I took the first two pics thru the glass of the balcony doors where a little bit of reflection intrudes, but better than nothing!

Malawi/Ethiopian x Mulanje

She is the smallest but has thankfully grown a bit in the recent weeks.

Honduras/Panama x Purple Honduras

Mango Sherbert

Mulanje

Mulanje male

Well that's all folks, just a short individual pic update. Thanks for dropping in, all the best and keep well! :ganjamon:

Looking great! Makes me get more excited to get some plants in my outdoor garden this year. I hope my plants look that good.

Excited to see the pounds of pollen coming off that male! He may not pollinate your females but it will be enough to circumnavigate the globe!
:laugh::passitleft:

The balcony is looking better all the time, Stunger!
And you couldn't ask for a healthier pollen donor... he's a handsome devil ..

Hey Stunger! Both mulanjes look so vigorously healthy! And mango sherbert has taken off. You really have perfected the art of stealth balcony growing! Just wondering how would you rate your current grow compared to prior grows? Did you do anything differently? Congrats on the season so far. I've been enjoying the show.

First time I really noticed those drilled holes, like it, like it a lot.

Glad they arent mine, Id probably sit out and sing to them all day (like a bogan Sound of Music scene though) and never get any work done.

Anyway they are thriving, between keeping height and later trim I do not envy you bloke. Good problems to have but those girls are gonna squeeze every spare cm by the looks of things. That stretch will be real. Cant wait to watch them stack.

The plants are beautiful, mate. Can't wait to see them in full flower...

Cheers BA! I have 'high' hopes for the Mulanje and I imagine if any of it's pollen travels and lands on anyone's plants it will probably be a bonus for the genetics it brings.
That Malawi/Ethiopian x Mulanje really looks like it's getting its stretch on! Good thing you've got the window box coverage. :)
Thanks Shed! Yip, I have allowed them to grow a bit more this time, so I definitely need those balcony rail planters.

Thank you Carcass! Hopefully from here on it all goes to plan!

Cheers Emeraldo! No actually I have done mostly the same as last year's grow where only one plant was quadlined/hexlined out and the others were LST'ed. This grow I have 1 additional girl on the balcony (4 instead of last year's 3). If anything, I haven't been as tough on them in restricting them for height, so they are a little taller at this stage than last year's. However, I think that their stretching will soon finish and budding will take over. If I have miscalculated then I'll just have do a bit more LST or supercropping to adjust.

Re the Mango Sherbert; I really thought that was a goner, as she got a bad start and for a few weeks was a mutant mini plant, so I am really pleased that I stayed with her as she has come right, and as you noted really taken off. Last year's Mango Sherbert was a trichome frost monster so it's great that I have this one this grow, and with a bit of luck I will selectively pollinate her with the Mulanje.

Cheers DV8! Those drilled holes are my version of 'air pots', the bigger 50L containers have a mixture of holes up to an inch in diameter. So it allows lots of oxygen and air pruning of the roots and is pretty difficult for the plants to sit in water.

I think all us gardeners are the same, we can so easily just sit and gaze at them!

Re stretching, hopefully they are almost done and that bud stacking is just around the corner!

Thanks Nick! Me too haha!

Greetings 420 enthusiasts! There is nothing much new to report as I find myself making any excuse to gaze out at my plants and will them to burst into budding colas. Patience patience I tell myself, as once all is done then there is the big wait of the outdoor off-season until Spring growing weather comes again. From the side window the Mulanje looks like the smallest plant even though her canopy is 3 inches short of 4 feet across.

So from the side window!

And front on to give a height perspective to the balcony rail!

Thanks for dropping in, keep well and may your buds be potent and plentiful! :ganjamon:

Absolutely beautiful.

Damn, they look excellent, Stunger!
Looks like the Mango Sherbet has one little branch that wants to have a peek over that rail... :)

I could look at the Mulanje all day long. I love the way she is growing. So straight and even and all the cola branches appear to be so even too. Great growth pattern. All the plants look amazing. Like the different perspective!!

Cheers Carcass! I may have to 'adjust' the odd stem here and there, but I think I'll mostly be alright.

Thanks Jon! The Mulanje with it's smaller leaves, Hexlined training and vertical cola stems does make it stand out a little differently from the others that were LST'ed. Cannabis plants are just plain lovely to gaze on and imagine what they may become!
