Stonecrusher's Backyard Bonanza - Bringing Out The Big Pots!

Here are the SIP plants at my friend RR's house. I also started these and planted them in the big SIPs. He's been caring for them all season. I think I should have supplied him with some more nutes for bloom. Judging form the looks of things they have been sucking all the fan leaves dry. I started with some Build A Bloom micronized nutes last week and will have him feed every two days for a week or so, then just water for a week until harvest.
I took some trich shots today and both plants are all cloudy. I figure Ive got two weeks as long as it stays warm.

Ive really enjoyed watching the Indica vs Sativa expressions of these two. The Indica plant flowered early and dense and has some huge fat colas. The Sativa plant looked like it would never start budding and we even discussed cutting it down several times because we thought it was a dud. Lo and behold it was just taking its sweet time and now has some really nice, but still light, buds. Hoping they thicken a bit before harvest.

Find 'em, kill 'em, cut the rot away, and spray with BT once a week until harvest (or after it rains and dries).
Hi Shed, Thanks for the tip. The BT took care of the caterpillars almost instantly and there was minimal damage since I caught them early and followed your advice.

I used a whole bottle of Monterey BT premixed which was $20! So I started looking for concentrate to mix up myself. My local garden store was out but offered Spinosad instead, saying it is good on caterpillars and other leaf eating bugs too. Do you have any experience or opinion if Spinosad is as good as BT?

Good work getting rid of them! Spinosad kills more bugs than BT (which is caterpillar-type specific) but the instructions limit it to 6x per grow if that matters. Also, it's toxic to bees when wet so be sure to spray after they go to bed. Here's some info on it:

Either way I'd be sure to wash the plant at harvest if you use any spray.

I'm here answering my own question after doing some research. I found that first of all Spinosad is not legal to use in some states and in commercial cannabis grows. It can kill caterpillars, some Beatles (not Paul tho), thrips and leafminers. I don't have those (yet).. But is is not as good as BT for caterpillars.
My decision is to find some BT concentrate I can use in my sprayer, and not the Spinosad. Ill treat the plants weekly until harvest.

Thanks Shed, you are a cornucopia of knowledge!

Update from the farm. My friend SG has been growing plants with me for a couple of years now. He has a little farm so I help out by starting tomatoes, peppers, and pot plants and he cultivates them along with a bunch of other stuff. This year he got an AK-47 and a few others that turned male or just didn't work out. But his AK-47 is outstanding and full of thick hard orangey smelling buds.
I have one of its sisters in my yard, but my shade trees.... I still have nice plants but you really see the power of sunlight here!

Trichrome spotting season is upon us. Both my backyard beauties are looking pretty cloudy, not amber yet.
Bug inspection complete. I let them know Im armed and ready. I got Neem, BT, and don't make me get the soap out.

AK-47

Chem Dawg 4

Castile Soap in flower, no neem! Makes the buds taste awful and browns the pistils big time (when there are still white ones;) ).
I will take that advice. I am already a little gun-shy when it comes to Neem.

This just in from KB's house. He pulled the trigger and harvested both of his beauties today.

Here is a cola from a side branch, Afghan Super Skunk from @SeedSupreme

The yellow one is Alien OG.

Wow nice size cola. 🍋
I hate to say it but my best plants are grown by someone else. Same happened last year. I believe it has a lot to do with his yard. His plants are sheltered from the winds on 3 sides by his house and garage, but they get full sun since he doesn't have big trees back there.
Several other factors definitely play a role. First, KB is just a good gardener and grows all kinds of plants. Second, he plants directly into the ground with good soil. I believe this is the way to go if ya can. Finally, he must water consistently. He claims he never even amended, top dressed, or fed the plants, but he did put a thick layer of mulch over the bed once the plants got established.
My own yard is full of mature trees and my only spot for the plants is shaded most of the day. I notice the plants do fine, they just don't get full and thick they way the plants in the full sun do.
I will harvest a nice amount from mine, KB will have so much ganja he'll be having bonfires with it next year. Good problem to have if you ask me.

Drying a few larf branches and testing the goods. The one on the right dried in the garage for 4 days and today I had my first puff of the Chem Dawg 4.

Environment and knowledge are always friends. Simple truth.

That's the end of the post???

Sorry to leave you hanging Shed. I got pretty zooted and forgot to follow up here, ended up cleaning the garage. I guess this means the Chem Dawg 4 checks out with strong sativa tendencies...like garage cleaning.
