Still Growing - SoCal Hybrids & Mexican & Colombian Sativas Under Sun Natural Systems

Re: Still Growing - SoCal Hybrids & Mexican & Colombian Sativas Under Sun Natural Sys

So an update from The Sunny Spot for you. After few days of rain we are back on track with first temperature drop that signals end of the summer. Currently temps during a day here are in mid 70s (23-25°C). Fortunately it was raining mainly in the night so plants didn't lose much sun. They are still in early flowering, some phenos are slower some are faster, but they'll be progressing now quickly. Currently we have 13 hrs of daylight short just 2 minutes, and this is the period when you have to start pruning and be on the lookout for critters, mold, septoria, PM, whatever comes. Actually I found 3 bud worms today, all outdoor favorites, and even took some pics of a damaged cola. There's also yellowing going on, but with so much foliage they have to be pruned even more so no worries. Otherwise pollination went very well, and two females are growing seeds all over which is my F2 generation for the next year and maybe more. Still don't know how big these buds are gonna be, but we'll see in 3-4 week, structure is really good :tokin:

Great looking bunch you've got there Conradino :high-five: lots of bud coming your way soon :thumb:

I would appreciate it if you take an occasional glance into my garden to help me out with my Portela (Lambsbread X Icer). From what I have read you write earlier, Sativas have fluffier and lighter buds and perhaps need an experienced eye when decision time comes for harvesting. My girl is only just started flowering again after a false start weeks ago so I am thinking harvest is going to be early November, or thereabouts. November here is usually mid 20's daytime and 16/18 nights so I think so far it does not rain too much, I might get away with it.....

Sorry to impose but you are the Sativa Guy :grinjoint::rollit::allgood::thankyou:

This is a closeup of her yesterday....

I'm not an outdoor expert but the Colombian Punta Roja seems to develop colas with minimum internode distance... pretty good looking... :circle-of-love:

Re: Still Growing - SoCal Hybrids & Mexican & Colombian Sativas Under Sun Natural Sys

It actually looks more like my Trainwreck last year, not like a pure sativa, but it just might be this famous indica pheno. There was an injection of these genes somewhere in Colombian history, and they sometimes pop up I hear. That's why I pollinated to keep genetics!

Everything's going great, bro! Except these bud worms :cheesygrinsmiley: By the end of the month they're gonna have to show how much they don't like mold and that's it :cheesygrinsmiley:

Am I seeing spider webs? Or are those mite webs ? :thedoubletake:

Fingers crossed to be the 1st one!!!

Hey Da Tenshi San!

I'm pretty sure my plants are clean of undesirables, but as Conradino rightly pointed out; now is the time to examine each cola carefully. At every watering. I moved about a hundred ladybirds from the citrus grove unto my girls in the Spring and they have colonised Narnia.

Fingers crossed indeed :thumb:

Re: Still Growing - SoCal Hybrids & Mexican & Colombian Sativas Under Sun Natural Sys

Down in the jungle where sativas can grow... but indicas can't sorry one of the Grape Dogs caught PM  I'm gonna have to come back there tomorrow on my way up to spray some milk. I have to check on Auroras finally. That's how PM looks people, if caught early it's not a big hassle but you have to spray fast and keep your fingers crossed :wood: On a more positive note 3 out of 4 show these pretty purple pistils, so it can really be called a purple strain, no doubt due to genes of father NYCD/Chemdawg '91 who contributed this trait to every cross that lem did with him.

Re: Still Growing - SoCal Hybrids & Mexican & Colombian Sativas Under Sun Natural Sys

Con, I was sitting here thinkin, I don't know if your packing in water when you go to the sunny spot, but here's what I use to do on my Gorrilla grows. You may all ready have thought of this, but what I use to do is, take plastic liter soda bottles, drill a 1/4 inch hole in the caps, epoxy about an 8 inch piece of 1/4 inch copper tubing in the caps, fill them with water, turn um upside down and carefully shove them in the ground next to the plants. Then next time all you have to do is take up the liter bottles of water and switch out the caps. You probably all ready thought of that, but if not it works pretty well. Just sayin. LOL TOAST

Re: Still Growing - SoCal Hybrids & Mexican & Colombian Sativas Under Sun Natural Sys

Hey man! I have a river nearby but now it's ok cause we have rain on a regular basis so I won't have to water them before harvest I hope cause ground waters are plenty. Also temps are in mid to high 70s now so water doesn't evaporate sp quickly as in August :thumb:

I don't know how I missed your journal until now.
At least I'm able to take a back seat, watch and learn while they finish.

Conradino

my plants look on par with yours as far as maturity.

however the trichomes have been cloudy for at least a week already.
the buds are no way mature enough to be picked though.

what do you use to determine when to pick?

i have been concentrating so much on indoor the last few years, now my outdoor skills need to be honed.

i need to cut the cost of electric and master gorilla stealth.

Re: Still Growing - SoCal Hybrids & Mexican & Colombian Sativas Under Sun Natural Sys

Just looking in the last page r so my friend. You know if your packing water you can look into a product called Water Crystals. Is a great product to reduce trips. I had a friend that worked at a diaper company and it's the same thing they add to them to retain wetness. They also use them to make a slurry they pump down to float out grounded rock on the oil drilling rigs. The size of a grain of rice holds 10 times it's size and slowly releases it in the soil. Next time there is water,,, it inflates again releasing It over the next 3-4 days. Of course back then I had to commute about 100 miles to the grow site. It cut my trips in half. Girls look great. I look at the trichomes exclusively, but I also go with pistils appearance. Basically they'll start to wither when buds are packing no more, and it's hard to miss this moment cause they'll look like the plant has stopped and is ready to die, she's just telling you she's ready. Then there are terpenes but you have to have a good nose for this method, you want to harvest them when they flipped 3rd time and smell doesn't change anymore, it just gets very full and mature like a fruit.

Next year I'm gonna have to look more into water-retaining mediums. But although we've had a very hot summer plants survived so I guess I'm doing everything right so far. All right, gotta have my brioche and cappuccino, and then off hiking up the mountain to check on my Aurora Ultras :slide:

Re: Still Growing - SoCal Hybrids & Mexican & Colombian Sativas Under Sun Natural Sys

Very good news. My Aurora Ultras are blooming all the way :partyboy: They are growing up on the mountain in so called terra rossa with very little water but plenty of sun. I had a feeling that strain doing very well on a Californian desert will do well in a very dry spot, and I was right. They are 5 gals in early flowering, but look at these trichomes. This is a serious indica which I've grown twice on my windowsill before but somehow didn't feel I tapped into full potential of this strain that way, and here bam! Definitely a keeper!

Re: Still Growing - SoCal Hybrids & Mexican & Colombian Sativas Under Sun Natural Sys

Yeah Gvt, I tell you! My friend calls this specific pheno Super Frosty, it's original White Widow level really, but with this genetics he bred with it's hard to be surprised. I found this bud to give you helicopter effect just after 3 tokes :bong:
