Afrobeat? You and Conrad are Afrobeat fans? Does Afrocelt qualify? I love those guys!

And the west African musicians are some favorites, too - Angelique Kidjo ...Youssou N'Dour ... :cheesygrinsmiley:

Had never heard of. Afrocelt, just watching them on YouTube. Not AfroBeats though.....

Re: Still Growing- SoCal Hybrids & Mexican & Colombian Sativas Under Sun Natural Syst

Just checked it Gray, cause didn't listen to them before. It looks like they combine Irish and African heritage, so there's some afrobeat in it. But yeah, I'm definitely an afrobeat fan. Fela Kuti was the king of African music like James Brown in USA. His favorite cannabis thing was called goro, a kind of thick paste made with buds, local herbs, honey and palm oil cooked for two weeks :tokin:

Ah Sue, I'm very sorry for your loss. I just found out browsing through the journals. I assume you want to take your time for grieving, but I'm not really sure how that looks like on the other side of the pond. It's easy to say how it'd look here but it changes from culture to culture. Anyway, don't lose the way!

Re: Still Growing- SoCal Hybrids & Mexican & Colombian Sativas Under Sun Natural Syst

Just dropping a quick update from the field, and a :joint: for everybody. I came back from the jungle with terrific news. I figured 5 gals already, they are actually showing preflowers right now. Never happened to me that quickly. If we can pick from one of these four a male that would be perfect, if there were 4 to choose from that'd be even better. So let's hope for the males :slide:

Anyway, I rolled some Malawi. I love how it cures, I start feeling lemon notes there. It's obviously one of these sativas that get much better with time. Still a lot of hurrah hey speed but she got more spacey and much better for alone smoking. It's also a great social high. I hope we're gonna get something really special in these Mexicans and Colombians too, 3 plants are doing quite well. They start to take aggressively on the surrounding bushes, good trait. Also, got a new record from UK, and I like it :circle-of-love:

The Doobies are an excellent choice, especially that era! I had that album! :cheesygrinsmiley:

I still feel the loss of my vinyl collections. I lost two sets of 100+ in my chaotic 20s. ... I probably rolled some doobies on that album ...

Thank you Conradino. Actually, grief hasn't been the terrible thing I'd anticipated. Apparently the abundance of joy in ones life allows one to traverse these testy waters with more ease. I'm feeling relaxed and loved and so thankful he's not suffering any more. Life moves on. I'm supposed to be sleeping now, but sleep has become allusive, so there's that. :laughtwo:

Love the record Conradino. Always something unexpected. That was a throwback! Haha!

Nothing like a bit of Doobie Brothers for downtime :thumb:

I enjoy more and more of early 70's country rock sound these days. I guess I'm in that kind of age :tokin:

Losing my record collection would be probably worse for me than cutting my plants by some dumb fucker in the middle of the season :cheesygrinsmiley:

Lost some actions here... trying to catch up... I've read only half of the posts since my last checking and I already need to ask you a bunch of questions... I hope you have time for some quick reply...

I'd use simple solutions: compost tea and some good organic source of calcium and magnesium in your bloom, that's it.

I have your same philosophy. I've never used liquid fertilisers. I put everything in the soil, let it cook for 90 days before seeding and then just "bake" some teas if necessary... this year I didn't do teas because my soil was super-charged and my leaves didn't change colors... By the way, I've also seen yours flowers and leaves don't change color that much...

Now,

- Why do you use a lot of tea? If the soil has the right composition, tea would be an optional -- at least this is what I read almost everywhere, probably because I'm coming from the "super soil" family and just moved to the "high brix" family now, so I've charged a lot my soil before going high brix... but teas are just like the cherry on the top of the cake, not really necessary. I used only micorryze.

- What do you put inside the tea, what quantity, in how much water, for how many plants and how long do you air the mix?

I smoked some shutter cause I don't have a rig. I used ash pillow method, took 3 tokes, and although I'm high it's not that big of a difference :bong: Maybe you really need to dab it or vape it or whatever. But I am a more of this particular-looking-high-guy who's after the effect of the plant and not so much after the highest THC content ever. Yeah I like when I get high with 2 or 3 nice tokes, but if I have to smoke some more but the bud or the hash has more ceiling to it I go for that one :tokin:

Man, I'm also after the effect. THC is just part of the equation. My white widow from my last grow was actually pretty weak if smoked or vaporised.... but when cooked in butter and coconut milk or palm oil with coconut milk for 20 minutes, anche then used to make some sweet bread, then it's a different story, so chilly relaxing no stress or paranoia... this is not THC... THC form what I know is just like caffein, it gives you the rush... it's the booster, but then you need other substances that expands other parts of your body...

Now, the thing is that I've been smoking my stuff only and exclusively for quiet some time. Last Christmas I've smoked some Skunk grown outdoor from a friend of mine in Northern Italy also, and it was good but I feel that mine had something more to it. I've been to Amsterdam several times and I'm 'planning to go back there to taste the same grass I grow to make a comparison. Question:

- How do you know your grass is high grade, or better than the average? Ok, one is that people will tell you, but what about you judging your grass without having smoked anything else for a long time? How do you know that that's high grade?

Re: Still Growing- SoCal Hybrids & Mexican & Colombian Sativas Under Sun Natural Syst

I forgot to mention that from my experience, if you want to be high it's ok to vaporize or smoke a joint or two, but if you want to stay high then it is difficult to do it without eating your stuff... I bake small cookies with 0.2 gr/each and keeps we high forever and on top of it I like to vaporize or smoke one or two of my top-liners...

Do you also eat your stuff? And what do you guys think are good strains for edibles? I found White Widow a good option... it's an old-fashioned strain to me that has excellent medical properties, keep you with the base high for a long time but then lets you play with the other cannabinoids concentration and terpenes of the other strains as well...

I just have to jump in here. I only recently started using edibles and you've come closest to describing the effect. I'm absolutely in agreement that edibles go somewhere combustibles don't, and it's somewhere I prefer to be.

I've not had the opportunity yet to try many strains, so that question is for others, but it hasn't mattered what I use. Recently that was bag weed (yuck - almost unsmokable) that kicked butt after being decarbed and baked in brownies.

My favorite I found by accident. Baked buds. I pick out a bud I think will be sufficient to get me seriously buzzed (it's going to last most of the day, so why be stingy?) and toss it onto an oven plate to cook for 30 minutes at 225F. Eat them like candy. Stay buzzed all day long. Deep, intense, very different than expected buzz.

You should try it. It sounds right up your alley.

OK, so what I've been doing for years was TLO or LOS as it's been dubbed recently. I never tried supersoil, and this is my first grow according to High Brix rules. I churned some nice HB numbers, and I already have some clues how it differs from my old approach. It's not really a long mile jump, more like steady walk in the right direction. The biggest difference is that now I put totally different stuff and everything I do goes towards pushing the CEC of soil and health of my plants as far as it takes, and I can verify it by taking Brix readings which is the closest thing to objective measures I experienced.

No, my leaves never really changed color much, but this is due to healthy biota and good soil. What I experience is usually old fan leaves drooping, yellowing and falling off by middle/late flowering, but it changes from strain to strain too. Some are more of nitrogen suckers, and these will show it even in veg sometimes like my Aurora Ultra for example, which I have to start feeding heavily as soon as I saw it. Now she's fine, and I've been using mainly compost teas here. What do I put in it? Well, garden compost :cheesygrinsmiley: I sometimes mix it with some stinging nettle or horsetail liquid fertilizer, and more and more often I put lactobacillus acidophilus to boost microbial activity. And that's my main objective, keep the life in the soil up, provide little bit more nitrogen, potassium and minerals, and some humic acid which is much less in my soil mix now than it used to as I had to throw it out when I switched to HB grow. As a tea it works much better I have to say and it makes more sense. I usually leave it on the sun for few days until it starts to stink, and pretty much that's it. I use it only for my windowsill plants though as in the jungle soil is so rich that I don't really need it. I don't use it excessively either, just from time to time.

As far as edibles are concerned I used to eat/drink real bombs, 5-10 grams of cannabis in a serving :Hookah: And as I've been an acidhead I found a similar experience that way :hippy: These days I don't really use cannabis in that form anymore, but I think after this harvest I might give it a try again.

HQ bud is not that hard to recognize. If you get high for few hours, your high has no ceiling, comedown is very gentle to non-existent, and you feel the joy/euphoria all the way, that's an excellent bud for me, leaving taste aside as even with my new HB buds that taste supersmooth, really like a dream, I don't feel it skips the genetics anyway if you know what I mean. To put it in perspective, I rolled a nice joint with Malawi Gold few days ago, and I smoked as much as I could just to see how high I'd get... well, couldn't smoke more than half cause I got so high it was impossible to keep on tokin' :lot-o-toke: When I came back home I smoked the rest of it in two sessions. Overall I was high on one joint 6-7 hours :cheesygrinsmiley: Smoke landrace sativas, no modern hybrids come close, it's just not the same :tokin:

Duly noted.

Spark a extra dubie for me. Tasty looking morsels back a page. Some bone meal works wonders in the slow release of cal-mag in soil amendments. Great era of music. I stopped with the new music, when the Scorpions made their first tour here in the states myself. But works for me. Guess I'm just stuck in the 70's. Looks great Keepem Green
