Still Growing - SoCal Hybrids & Mexican & Colombian Sativas Under Sun Natural Systems

Re: Still Growing- SoCal Hybrids & Mexican & Colombian Sativas Under Sun Natural Syst

Gawd I love the leaf posture on outdoor plants!!

They always look so firm and stiff, like you could cut your finger on the serrations. BIG eager leaves. Yum!

Re: Still Growing- SoCal Hybrids & Mexican & Colombian Sativas Under Sun Natural Syst

Oh yeah perking up at the sun, sometimes they change shape completely that way. I'm really blessed with my climate, sun, soil and everything. If these plants are ready by the end of September this variety won't even have to have high RH liking cause it's usually dry this time of the year. Now it rains but that'll finish quickly as soon as another African front hits us :tokin::wood:

Re: Still Growing- SoCal Hybrids & Mexican & Colombian Sativas Under Sun Natural Syst

Man you've got some serious action going on here... I'll make sure to stop by more often. Which is your OG breeder? I've tried to find out the killer OG (seed) on the market and a few people claimed the DNA's been the closest to the original top shelf Cali seedling... Not too sure if I've got the right info??? :grinjoint:

Re: Still Growing- SoCal Hybrids & Mexican & Colombian Sativas Under Sun Natural Syst

All hybrids I grow come from my buddy who lives in SoCal on the desert :tokin: He used original clone of OG Kush which is hardly available anywhere for sale. I also grow seeds from hermied clone of the same line, and it's a fragile plant, if you click back to 25 you're gonna see it, almost ready to be harvested. Ultra Dogs have also Chemdawg '91 genes inside as this was crossed to NYCD by Soma, and then a male from this line has been selected to pollinate Aurora Ultra and some other clones like Jack Herer, Grape Ape and few more. We are currently in the stage of figuring out what characteristics these crosses really have, but so far it's a very promising project. I've already harvested Grape Dog which is a hard hitting indica dominant bud with some strong head buzz on the top of it, and I only smoked resin-coated sugar leaves cause the bud is curin' :tokin: It has a deep scent of honey with some pepper and bay leaf on the top. Ultra Dog will be much better I think but we'll see. As far as the OGs on the market you'd better go with HSO version or Face-Off OG, but I don't know how these seeds are viable for breeding.

Re: Still Growing- SoCal Hybrids & Mexican & Colombian Sativas Under Sun Natural Syst

Man, that was another sweaty hike today, but I'm glad I did it. Do you still remember The Mountain Spot? I put 5 Aurora Ultras (Super Frosty sub-line) there and one Jack Herer. The only thing I really used as a protection was some calcium carbonate that was sprinkled around. Well, first they had to survive a heatwave, then a week of heavy rainstorms, and then the soil is really heavy in clay there although plants grow really strong roots due to abundance of minerals. Anyway, I was playing safe bet thinking that maybe half have survived, and that they would be in really poor condition. But it just wasn't the case, Jack Herer was eaten completely, but AUs are doing great with just a leaf picked here and there, so a variety grown on Californian desert for years apparently loves my conditions :tokin:

Ok, here they are just after I topped them. Pics from my phone.

Re: Still Growing- SoCal Hybrids & Mexican & Colombian Sativas Under Sun Natural Syst

Hey what's up, yogi? Yeah a shame but at least I can cross one famous strain off my list :tokin: You know if you start thinking about what you'd like to grow in the future some pre-selection is necessary :laughtwo: And now we're one lighter :tokin: Hmm yeah some things are strong and some are not, and guerilla is the best way to quickly select the naturally strong strains. In my climate, and I figured that pretty quickly, pure indicas do not really grow well, and basically strains with too big buds. On the other hand if I have some indica that was bred through some good sativa genetics then I have much bigger chance of success. High RH liking and tolerating big fluctuations is a must, and also taking very high temperatures for at least two weeks without water. Also I can tell a lot about a strain kept in very humid conditions all the time cause I have The Shady Spot where only very strong sativa strains bud well and produce a good smoke. Actually, I have 2 Colombians, 1 Mexican and another Jack Herer there now, so I'll drop you an update next week. More chances for a landrace sativa smoke if you spread them around :cheesygrinsmiley: I'm dreading the moment when they really start to go up, these can grow 2 feet in few days when they start to flower, but we'll see cause I'm gonna all top them this year. And I'll have to show you this windowsill Mexican, nice getting ahead, very light limey-green like leaves... maybe it's gonna be a female and she'd just like being bonsai'd :Hookah:

Re: Still Growing- SoCal Hybrids & Mexican & Colombian Sativas Under Sun Natural Syst

And here comes the boom :cheesygrinsmiley: My OG Kush is ready to be harvested today or tomorrow. She's been melting in the sun for the last 6 days, absolutely no water and most of it evaporated from the leaves and buds leaving very compact hard resinous colas. Brix are at 16. Actually, I've done 4 different readings, 1 yesterday and 3 today. Remember Brixers, sometimes more than one reading i necessary to have the exact number! Yesterday's leaf was at 15, first one today was at 13,5 (bottom one), and then I got 16 and 16,5 to 17 reading, which gives a good estimate :thumb:

This strain was a challenge to grow and I have to say it's probably the dankest plant I ever had next to Green Crack. Odour coming off of it is just DANG! A complex bouquet of lemon, pine, gasoline and a mature pear makes your head spin :thedoubletake: One thing I've discovered is that this plant just doesn't like any RH over 30-40% in flowering and does much better with limited watering as she really took off when I cut off the water supply after I fed some fish. Now we'll see how this bud smokes, but I'll let it cure first for few weeks like I do with all my stash. Remember, drying and curing is the key :tokin:

Yummy Conradino. Thank you for sharing this adventure with us every summer.

Gorgeous photos of the OG Kush. I look forward to that smoke report. I love the detail you share. It's like going to class. :laughtwo:

Re: Still Growing- SoCal Hybrids & Mexican & Colombian Sativas Under Sun Natural Syst

I went to check on freshly outplanted sativas in The Shady Spot and Jack Herer is gone, one Mexi and one Colombian almost dead, and only another Colombian somehow pulling through. What is weird that the last one had least sun :thedoubletake::tokin: Well yeah I decided to keep this Jarillo in the end as I wouldn't like to miss on this bud for sure :yummy: How it'll survive bonsaing we will see, something just tells me it will be fun :passitleft:

Well here she is and I think she's quite pretty :cheesygrinsmiley:

Hello Conradino!

Great work with your veritable MJ jungle.

If I may pick your brain....when would you advise me to introduce bloom nutes for my photo girls? All three have been throwing out pistils and then apparently changing their minds and revegging. Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

Hope you and your fair lady wife are happily ensconced in continuing marital bliss. :high-five:

It is a sweet little thing Conradino. If anyone can coax it into thriving as a bonsai, it would be you. You know, it occurs to me that I could use my eventual HB perpetual side of the tent to practice bonsai skills on my charges. :hmmmm: I have all the neat tools since it was a passion of Dale's. That took my brain into something totally new. Whoa! Thought for the future.

Obviously I find your bonsai training methods fascinating and inspirational Conradino. :bravo:

I don't use bottled bloom nutes as you know, so you'd have to explain me exactly what line you use and what's in it. I currently drench/feed heavy phosphorus/calcium/magnesium/microelemnts tea just once in bloom to change CEC or soil chemistry, and stimulate pistils and trichomes production. Then I switch to fish, compost tea (weak solution of NPK with humic acid), lithothamnium and lactobacillus acidophilus.

We're good in our bliss, :thanks: for asking.

Practice that and you'll be able to tame any sativa in your tent :thumb:

Re: Still Growing- SoCal Hybrids & Mexican & Colombian Sativas Under Sun Natural Syst

Good Afternoon Conradino!

I use BioBizz nutes FishMix 5-3-4 Bloom 2.0-7-4 and Grow 4-3-6. I have been feeding them alternating grow and FishMix. I have been watering in Magnesium Sulfate every 3 or so weeks. I wondered when to start the Bloom, and I also plan to buy some Plagron Green Sensation 0-9-10 hopefully this weekend, but will use it only in last 4 weeks of flowering before cleanse.

Re: Still Growing- SoCal Hybrids & Mexican & Colombian Sativas Under Sun Natural Syst

Ok, Bapple. I've just looked at your ladies and they look ok, but there is always space for improving things: color of your leaves, their perkiness, longer pistils, more resin etc. First of all if you use commercial mix you already have too much potassium, phosphorus and nitrogen in your soil as they're really going overboard no matter who the producer is, Plagron, Biobizz, Fox Farm or whatever. Cannabis will uptake that of course and most of heavy feeders won't budge, but the quality of your smoke will suffer. I'd use simple solutions: compost tea and some good organic source of calcium and magnesium in your bloom, that's it. If you want to feed them NPK nutes, use fish one but your potassium levels are through the roof there. My fish flour has 1% of potassium, and you shouldn't exceed that in bloom for healthy flowers, High Brix and good terpenes production :Namaste:

Re: Still Growing- SoCal Hybrids & Mexican & Colombian Sativas Under Sun Natural Syst

Thanks for taking a look C :thanks:

Plagron said growmix has enough stuff in it for about a month. I generally only start feeding in the 6th or 7th week. You reckon there is enough stuff in the mix and additional NPK feeding is excessive? Are you saying I don't need the bloom nutes? Sorry for the aggro, please clarify. :)

Next year I will give no NPK help to one plant and see where things go.

Re: Still Growing- SoCal Hybrids & Mexican & Colombian Sativas Under Sun Natural Syst

In an average mix there's more than enough nutrients for a potted plant for the whole cycle. But the thing is that much phosphorus is tied up to soil quartz particles, and without help from mycorrhizae it will never be tapped. With potassium it's different as plant absorbs it pretty well only with mycrobial help, but how its solubility is always transformed through CEC, an d depends a lot on quality of your soil and on moisture. Potassium actually stops being absorbed by the plant when she doesn't have enough water in the soil, and that happens often in pots which is why a lot people get it. They're just rootbound and too dry. More of potassium is actually necessary in veg when they build a lot of foliage and stems, in flowering it slightly goes down. The thing is there are two other cations cannabis needs much more in flowering, and they are calcium and magnesium, which normally in soil compete through the same cation adsorbtion, so they'll be picked by the plant all in the same time. However flowers are build mostly from nitrogen derived molecules, exactly like the foliage and stems, and terpenes and THC production comes mostly from phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, sulphur, iron, zinc and manganese channels, so here you need to gently guide the plant in this phase.

No bottled or chelated nutes used here:

I smoked some shutter cause I don't have a rig. I used ash pillow method, took 3 tokes, and although I'm high it's not that big of a difference :bong: Maybe you really need to dab it or vape it or whatever. But I am a more of this particular-looking-high-guy who's after the effect of the plant and not so much after the highest THC content ever. Yeah I like when I get high with 2 or 3 nice tokes, but if I have to smoke some more but the bud or the hash has more ceiling to it I go for that one :tokin:

Thanks for the mini tutorial Conradino, you're a brick.

Budlicious shots you've got there. Any person who has Fela Kuti as their profile pic has my vote as a canna and Afrobeat cognoscenti.
